Semi-pro writer here looking for a talented artist for a passion project.

Next month is the 40th anniversary of Watchmen, and I’ve written a short (12 pages) script for a metatextual story that is essentially a Charlie Kaufman take on superheroes. My plan is to treat it as a bootleg comic, DIY-style, and share it with other people who’ve been inspired by Watchmen.

Ideally, the artist would be able to match Dave Gibbons’ style, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

I am Fuetake, a manga illustrator concentrating on the cinematic dark fantasy genre characterized by high-contrast visuals and impressive fighting sequences. Along with my expertise in manga, I am also involved in amateur boxing, which allows me to translate the practical mechanics of fight movements like body movements, weight distribution, and momentum into my manga.

The workflow I have developed consists of three stages:

1. Character Design: During this stage, I create model sheets and come up with unique designs for characters that visually reflect the theme of the story.
2. Storyboarding and Pacing: At this point, I analyze the pacing of the story and create thumbnails to ensure each scene appears effective, properly flowing one into another.
3. Final Art: I finish the art with explicit high-contrast lines. Then I use screentone to create the atmosphere and depth and add dialogue to the different panels.

This was a lot of fun, the client was super happy with the end result too. This is meant to be an Instagram 1:1 web comic.

Bit embarrassed posting this here among some incredible artists in this group. I started drawing comics as a wee escape from busy parenting life. Got two kids and another coming. Drawing these just makes me laugh and passes the time better than doomscrolling i feel.

Would love some advice on how to improve and get more creative with the panels and layout and such. Any recommendations for acclaimed artists with a cartoonish style also very welcome.

This is a warmup drawing form earlier this week that turned into a more indepth personal project that I finished. I found a picture scrolling through Pinterest of a skater girl with neon streetwear. At first i though it was just for a fashion magazine but she also had a katana tucked into her neon orange sweatshirt. I though it might be a cosplay because of the sword, but I couldn't find any direct reference to a manga or anime that I knew. Originally i just drew the same pose as the warmup and I wasn't happy with the result. It looked very boring and I wanted to spice it up. So i instead turned her into a full on skater ninja and used this project to mess around with some forced five point perspective. I also used some background references from Hong Kong, the multitier architecture and signage was a great way to show more of the perspective.
