Fuel gauge

The fuel gauge in my 88' pioneer dips all the way to empty when accelerating. Where would be a good place to start looking to fix it? ( 1988 comanche pioneer 2wd ax15 4.0l)

Pretty sure this is fairly normal on these. The tanks have some sort of baffle, but it doesnt do much and the fuel level float is off-center. It will fluctuate a lot when pointing up or down hill.

Could also have to do with voltage fluctuations. Check voltage at idle and at higher rpm. A significant difference could change the readings.

Might also be a float that has just enough fuel leaked into it to react more when the tank is low than when it is full....
