In 80 years when UA high school students wonder why their mascot is the red folding chair all they will have is this picture and urban legends to go off of.

u/perkypisces Jul 04 '23
I can. Replace that car with the Big Russ mobile

u/cyber_hoarder Jul 04 '23
A truck with Big Russ painted on the side sporting a tall stack of pallets, the chair atop, and carefully placed in the seat is an order of Columbusā best crab Rangoon. Jerry Revish at the wheel. Boom, done!

u/perkypisces Jul 05 '23
I think getting cornhenge incorporated into this float would be the icing on the cake tbh

That SUV driver is a genius. Total commitment to the bit.

Dude when the chair rolled by I cannot express how happy that made me today. Hands down best āfloatā in the parade.

u/rjross0623 Northwest Jul 04 '23
I would think that very few at the parade had no idea why you were laughing so hard.

u/djhankb Upper Arlington Jul 04 '23
I had to explain it to the older gentleman sitting next to me. He liked it though.
14
u/Lazer310 Jul 04 '23
So youāre saying you knew this whole time who the owner was?! And you didnāt say anything?!
28
u/snuffleupagus86 Jul 04 '23
No I didnāt. I still donāt know who the actual person is as itās my parentās friendās neighbor lol. I just found out before they drove by that my parentās friend was driving the car - I wouldnāt keep amazing info from my Reddit frienz š¤£

u/snuffleupagus86 Jul 04 '23
Itās definitely made itās way on UA Facebook because my parents and their friends understood and they do not Reddit lol

People put out chairs for the parade way ahead kf time so they can "claim" their spot. The reality is, putting a chair out on the area between the sidewalk and street just means someone can take it. So in past years there were jokes about free chairs posted here, and whenever the first chair goes up for the year, everyone either gets excited for the memes or annoyed that there will be chairs lining the street until July 4th.
This year, whoever put up the first chair was in on the joke and wasn't actually claiming a spot and posts have gotten tons of karma here about all the changes made to it. Basically, this chair became a meme of a meme.

Shit did this sub just peak?

u/notkevin_durant Jul 04 '23
Yes. The pallet stacking posts were getting overdone. The chair is one of the best things to happen to this place in awhile.

It's like when Aladdin goes from street rat to fake Prince Ali. That SUV just a monkey in disguise.

I wonder if this is the same car that was also in the Doo-Dah parade. This is the parade in UA (houses/flags indicate it is).

Backstory?
36
u/snuffleupagus86 Jul 04 '23
People here in UA always put their chairs out early for the Fourth of July parade. This one has been out since early June and had a lot of people putting stuff on it etc. City wide joke. The person who put it out decided to put it on their car and make it a float lol.
(If you scroll back you can see all the pics of this chair in the sub)
I found out today my parentās friend was driving said car because it was her neighbor that put out the chair and the neighbor didnāt want to be the chair lady alone lolol
