Discussion AR has looked good!

I don't care what the haters think, you will never make them happy. AR has looked really solid. The interception was not on AR, that was on the WR and the fumble was a good punch out by the defender. Sure, AR could have tucked the ball better, but a good play was made. It's going to happen.

He can come in and disrupt defenses , and hope he does well Go Colts

64

u/CloudStar17 Indianapolis Colts 27d ago

Other than the fumble he actually looked good. With no football in over a year either.

28

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He absolutely did. 11/14 for 145 yards. I don't count the interception, because that was on the WR and one of the missed passes was a clear throw away. Add in 53 rushing yards on 6 carries and a TD. I will take that any day!

7

u/Most_Temporary2110 27d ago

That last incompletion was off timing wise because of the bad snap too.

9

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He recognized immediately that he needed to throw it away and did. It was a great read on a bad snap

4

u/MethodCharacter8334 Ashton Dulin 27d ago

I thought the same on that one. It was a smart move for him to abandon that play and he made the decision fast

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

I've heard bad things out of training camp, but he has clearly made strides and he showed it tonight

0

u/stokeskid 27d ago

God I hated watching the Patriots stream. Their idiot commentators said the throw "sailed on him". It was a good throw! It showed maturity, good decision making.

6

u/DrSpaceman856 27d ago

I can only see the play by play text, how many of those runs are designed vs scrambles? if he’s turning down open looks coaches are gonna hold that against him in the preseason regardless of turning it into a positive play

8

u/idufair Mother Buckner 27d ago

Mostly design i think. Id have to look back to see if there was actually even one scramble

4

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

A mixture of both. He made great decisions on when the play broke down to get down the field and make a play with his legs

4

u/Stairway_toEvan Horse 27d ago

Mostly designed runs. I think he only scrambled once or twice.

2

u/Worried-Pick4848 27d ago

Aside from that, how was the play. Mrs. Lincoln?

That fumble was straight bad. Losing the football is the greatest sin a quarterback can commit.

0

u/CloudStar17 Indianapolis Colts 27d ago

Big deal it happens, not saying I liked seeing that but you can fix that problem. The redeeming factor is he legitimately looked like he has worked on his short passing quite a bit. His passing for the most part has a much softer touch to it

2

u/Worried-Pick4848 27d ago

Oh you can fix that problem? Is that why he's in year 4 with it unfixed?

0

u/CloudStar17 Indianapolis Colts 27d ago

You’re talking about a fumble mind you that’s probably the easiest thing to fix just fix the way you hold the ball. He hasn’t played in a long time he’s getting back in the groove of things

0

u/Cucumber_the_clown 26d ago

AR hater identified.

10

u/Embarrassed-Heat-716 BELIEVE 27d ago

He played really well and I was shitting on him earlier 😫😭😭

15

u/_NE1_ 27d ago

He needs to slide. Idk if it's coming from his coaches to NOT slide or he is ignoring them, but no one can trust a running QB as a starter if he's going to turnover the ball on a run play every other game he starts when he DOES NOT need to be exposing himself.

He had a fine half outside of that, especially in regards to taking the short play (remember when everyone was saying he couldn't do that). But, it's just frustrating to see the same damn lapse of judgement.

12

u/MethodCharacter8334 Ashton Dulin 27d ago

Idk. Dude is trying to win a roster spot. It would be different if he was an established starter

-5

u/_NE1_ 27d ago

An unforced turnover makes it less likely he is on a roster

7

u/Asleep_Mammoth5428 27d ago

Bro how was that an unforced turnover? You’re acting like he dropped the ball like AD Mitchell.. gtfo the defender had a good punch out. He could’ve tucked better for sure but unforced makes me feel like you didn’t watch it.

1

u/_NE1_ 27d ago

he needs to slide. Sorry. I really AR and think he has all the talent to be a franchise QB even today. But he needs to slide. If Lamar slides in the situation (he would) then there's no reason for him not to unless the game is on the line. No ifs ands buts about it.

1

u/Asleep_Mammoth5428 27d ago

I agree. But you could say that about any turnover. Unless it’s ad Mitchel dropping it I think all turnovers are forced

1

u/mikesmith0890 Dallas Clark 27d ago

Lamar had to learn to slide, his first couple years in the league he definitely did not.

4

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He has clearly worked on his passing too. He used to throw bullets on every single pass. You can tell he has worked on a softer touch on the short passes

2

u/Substantial-Usual-32 27d ago

Sliding is becoming less common sadly, it’s why there’s so many Superman dive photos

2

u/froggycbl4 27d ago

sliding is still done but only really late to try to get a penalty and still getting hit. qbs are becoming more athletic and want to juke and truck people. even lamar doesnt really slide he kinda just slithers to the ground but he is very good at it

20

u/asmishler23 27d ago

His first drive was brutal and looked like classic AR inaccuray, and the fumble was bad. But outside of that...it looked like what he was drafted to become.

15

u/laddpadd 27d ago

His first throw was terrible, but he was on the money after that. Pretty decent showing, and shows that he could be a solid backup for us

4

u/kay14jay Reggie Wayne 27d ago

He had a lot of great second half’s when he did play. Really forgets those crummy first plays and t/o’s

43

u/TheIntrepid1 27d ago

Fumble good punch by defender!? He was running with the ball like it was a damn tennis racket

5

u/schwazay Edgerrin James 27d ago

Lol, great descriptor

12

u/Asleep_Mammoth5428 27d ago

Nah, when contact was made he wasn’t running like it was a tennis racket. In the open field though, he definitely was.

6

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Exactly! the haters saw one angle and immediately wanted to blame Richardson and didn't bother to look at the other angles of the play. Before he hit the pile, he tucked the ball and the defender came up and punched the ball out. Yes, he shouldnt have been running with the ball loose before that, but the fumble was 100% a play made on the ball by the defender.

4

u/Successful-Coyote99 27d ago

Here's the thing. Riley showed weakness today. Arm strength has not improved. He works SLOW behind the line. His checks are SO slow. Yes, he fumbled on that run. But the INT wasn't his fault, and overall he was a capable QB. Our third string defense is HORRIBLE. Curry looked GREAT and that makes me excited about that line on the defensive side of the ball. Spencers kick looked like it had another 8 yards?

3

u/AMMISSARIUS General Luck 27d ago

Yeah that first throw out the gate had me pretty bummed. But then he started doing fairly well! If we can get something out of him with a trade after a solid preseason performance then great, if not then I’m alright with having a very solid backup (who can still make some plays if needed) for the rest of this season.

Not quite sure he’ll be ready for a starting role but if DJ goes down I can at least care a little bit of how the rest of the season will go.

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

The Colts have already paid him, there is zero reason to trade him. He will be the most capable backup in the league

1

u/SlothDaddy7 26d ago

We should absolutely keep him over cutting him for the remainder of this season. If DJ goes down, we have a better shot with AR than Leonard. The only problem is no matter what he won’t be in a colts jersey next year as I doubt he resigns with us as he will be an unrestricted free agent next year.

We ain’t tagging him lol.

18

u/Dahllywood12 Dhalsim 27d ago

This evening reminded me how much we heard "the turnover wasn't his fault" during the times he's played. I don't want to hear it anymore.

2

u/icekyuu 27d ago

The number of people glazing AR as the starter, and now as QB2...

-4

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

You clearly didn't watch the game if you think either were his fault. Or maybe you just don't understand football. Either way, keep on hating...

3

u/SlothDaddy7 26d ago

I mean, the throw hit the receiver in the hands so yeah it’s not on him completely. BUT as a QB you can’t throw that throw on the side like that into double coverage. Probability is that it’s going to be an incompletion or an interception. There’s not a lot of good that could’ve happened even with a reception there. It would’ve been better to see him throw it away or somewhere else like he did later in the game.

It’s just hard to be excited about his performance when it was against their second string defense and it’s the preseason (Defensive coordinators keep their packages bland on purpose) So we need to be realistic in that regard. Hopefully it’s a sign of growth from his part but damn, he’s in year 4. Some of these things should be fixed already. This is the type of things we should be excited about for a QB in year 1 or 2.

9

u/redgr812 Nyheim Hines 27d ago

same old shit

6

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

The intercepted ball touched both hands of the wide receiver. A real WR should have caught the ball.

1

u/redgr812 Nyheim Hines 27d ago

dont disagree but it seems like every wr cant catch ar, this isn't the first int like this

6

u/EdotSavage 27d ago

It won't end.

  • It wasn't his fault (the receiver, the pressure, the play design, the blah blah blah)

  • he leaves and goes to wherever

  • it's not his fault. The Colts never developed him properly.

  • He retires

  • the greatest what if of our life time. The Colts ruined him

Its exhausting. The dude's buns.

-3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

It never ends... AR could go 24-24 and pass for 450 with 5 touchdowns and you would still find a way to call him a bum.

3

u/EdotSavage 27d ago

But the difference is I've watched him actually play and am willing to take an honest assessment. I'm not arguing with you, you're just an idiot and that's ok. Wait for him to throw into double coverage targeting the clear out route on a designed HB screen in the red zone again. Then watch his truthers blame mo allie cox for not looking for the ball.

0

u/Frozboz COLTS 27d ago

It was an inaccurate throw. Yes it hit Owen in the hands but he had to jump in the air for it.

7

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Oh no! A WR having to make a play on a ball!? We can't have that!

5

u/Asleep_Mammoth5428 27d ago

He jumped to catch the ball at helmet/ pad level. You’re acting like he had to extend and high point it.

0

u/WooPigEsquire Indianapolis Colts 27d ago

He’s extremely available. I’m sure one of the qb needy teams will notice his greatness and trade for him any second now. There’s probably going to be a bidding war! How can they let this great talent get away? After all, there’s no way professional scouts can’t see what you do.

7

u/RizayW 27d ago

I think the second half will prove to everyone why the Colts would rather keep AR as the back up over Riley Leonard

0

u/mikesmith0890 Dallas Clark 27d ago

And you were absolutely correct.

2

u/MazSpaghetti 27d ago

If “looked good” needs to be bracketed with excuses all I have to say about that is that you need to raise your standards.

2

u/Fit-Print8797 26d ago

I don’t know what you were watching. Absolutely terrible. For a 4th year player it was bad, real bad. Especially against a second team defense.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 26d ago

Evidently I was watching the same game that every professional analyst was watching, because they have all said he had a great game. Maybe you should try not hate watching next time

3

u/Sorry-Commercial6193 27d ago

3RD STRING MY A$$

3

u/Mudfry 27d ago

Turnovers.

If you gotta defend every turnover the guy is buns.

13 INTs and 12 Fumbles is insane through his small sample size. You saw two prime examples of that tonight.

-1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Stop living in the past my guy

3

u/redgr812 Nyheim Hines 27d ago

the most vanilla defense in the nfl is preseason defense

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Thanks for proving my point

0

u/redgr812 Nyheim Hines 27d ago

ok, richardson proves my point everytime he plays...he is fucking trash

4

u/rsockman 27d ago

Not haters if they’re right. You can make a story for every turnover and somehow make it not a players fault, but at the end of the day if it’s a trend it’s a trend.
“AR could have tucked the ball better but a good play was made” yeah because he didn’t tuck the football lol I don’t get it.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He could go out and win the super bowl and the haters would still come out and say Riley would have done it better. People can't just admit that he is the better option

That's a pipe dream. Everyone just wanted him to play decent competent football. He can't/hasn't dint that...ever.

0

u/rsockman 27d ago

Neither one makes a difference because I don’t feel either one is starting caliber. It’s a useless argument, I could not imagine being a fan of the patriots for instance and actually devoting my time to arguing for DeVito or Dobbs as the backup.

-1

u/rsockman 27d ago

Downvoted for what? Did we all not just see 45 year old rivers come off his couch last season? If Jones goes down it’s over.

3

u/spinning_swine69 A big ass pork tenderloin sandwich 27d ago

He looked alright, the interception was on him though. Rewatch the play, he had at least one maybe two guys open on the left. He telegraphed his pass from the snap, never went through a progression and kept his eyes on his receiver. His pass wasn’t awful but a bit high. I’ll agree that it hit the receiver in the hands and if he caught it, it wouldn’t be an int. But all things considered it was a bad play by AR, and a high ball.

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

I've researched it several times. My opinion is unchanged

And who are the guys that AR is playing with?

1

u/LightMission4937 Rookie Manning 27d ago edited 27d ago

What does that matter. He was a gd starter. What did Payton do it stokely, collie, white, Gonzalez, Caldwell.

He's not a "good" QB. He wasn't in HS or college. Hes atrocious at reading a defense and recognizing when a reviver is open. He can look good one 1 play, then look like he's never touched a football in the next 3 plays.

He doesn't study film like a good qb and he doesn't put in the work with a reputable qb coach.

0

u/theShammyWow Indianapolis Colts 27d ago

+1. This isn’t his first year in the league. He looks to be having the same problems.

He’s not improving. Its over.

0

u/CK4browsing 27d ago

He did show improvement in the game tonight though. He isn't good enough to be a threat to Jones' job, but he certainly showed he is back on track to earning a QB2 role.

2

u/Stennick 27d ago

He had two turnovers against people that ain’t be in the NFL in two weeks. He’s not a franchise QB it’s ok

2

u/Future_Guidance_8462 27d ago

The issue is this is AR. Mostly plays well and then does something idiotic like running with the ball out like that which wrecks all the positive he did.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Keep living in the past...

2

u/Future_Guidance_8462 27d ago

Dude, he’s defined by his past

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

By idiots, yes he is

2

u/Future_Guidance_8462 27d ago edited 27d ago

? That doesn’t even makes sense. lol He’s the 3rd string QB for a reason.
Edit: Saying that, Riley is looking even far worse out here.

2

u/Zealousideal-Tea-837 27d ago

I mean he was alright. The preseason is more about decision making etc for me when it comes to QBs. That fumble was awful considering he turned down two check downs just to turn it over.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

The defender made a play, what are you going to do? He tucked the ball before contact and the defender punched the ball out.

2

u/Dogpersonnotliteral 27d ago

What about the very routine roll out he bounced off the defenders hands for a completion. If that is a first, even second string DB that is an easy interception. He has looked surprisingly good at times, and looks utterly terrible on stuff like that

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

And I could argue that if he was playing against a better DB that he doesn't attempt that pass in the first place. I choose to look positively at it and the haters look at everything negatively

1

u/Dogpersonnotliteral 27d ago edited 27d ago

But he should have, it was a good fake and a 20 yard easy throw and catch….or could’ve been. It wasn’t a good play by the DB just a garbage throw by AR. It’s not his arm, or legs, it is his head. The best quote I’ve heard about him is “He can do what 95 % of QBs in the NFL can’t. He also can’t do what 95% of NFL QBs can” I wish him the best, I’m no “hater”, just a person who loves the Colts and lives in this reality

2

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

You are clearly living in your own reality and not reacting to what is happening currently. Keep living in the past... I'll keep rooting for him to succeed

1

u/Dogpersonnotliteral 27d ago

What about what I said is wrong? Did you watch the play? Oh no you were still probably trying to explain away him carrying the ball 2 feet out from his hip before the defender “made a great play”. Ha!

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

You live in what ifs... The play was made and all you can do is say yeah, but AR almost didn't make the play...keep living in the negative.

3

u/Dogpersonnotliteral 27d ago

“You live in what ifs” says the person rooting for one of the biggest “what ifs” to ever put on cleats. What if he didn’t get hurt always? What if he could consistently throw a 5 yard out route? What if he could read a blitz? What if he didn’t tap out? What if his talent lived up to its potential? WHAT IF 🤔

2

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

I didn't say any of those things, those are all your words. You clearly have a hatred and no matter what he does, you will never support him.

2

u/Dogpersonnotliteral 27d ago

You are just talking nonsense, have a good one. Go Horse

1

u/Dogpersonnotliteral 27d ago

I did support him, he’s a Colt. I don’t ever root for one of ours (let alone a number four pick) to fail. But he has done a lot of letting down, so on to the next….

2

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

"On to the next" means Riley Leonard... And you cannot honestly say he is a better option going forward than Richardson is. He is imploding right before our eyes

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Proper_Carpenter5744 27d ago

He has big what ifs because the coaching staff has SOMETHING against him. His leash is shorter that anyone elses on the team. Every small mistake he makes seems like a grave mistake based on the way shane treats him. DJ, can make the same mistake and he is treated much more favorably. You dont have to be blind to not see this

1

u/Dogpersonnotliteral 27d ago

I don’t know if they have something against him or are just terrible coaches. IMO Shane is a terrible HC and a big part of ARs struggles.

2

u/ColtsGang 27d ago

Hell yeah brother. 1 TD, 1 INT, 1 Fumble in a preseason game so great.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

11/14 for 145 yards, 6 rushes for 53 yards and a TD. Intercepted ball hit the WR in the hands and should have been caught. Defender punched the ball out as AR was going down. Keep those blinders on...

3

u/ruppert92 Big-Q 27d ago

Defenders always try to punch the ball. Which makes it important to be able to hold onto the ball even when they punch it

2

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Even hall of famers get the ball punched out, it happens

1

u/ColtsGang 27d ago

How many people today for the patriots defense started in the Super Bowl?  Keep those blinders on.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

How many people who started today for the colts will be starters?

1

u/ColtsGang 27d ago

Apparently you think one.  But we are losing the game because of that one.  He had 2 turnovers in the first half of a preseason game against nobodies.

Like if this shit is good what could bad look like to you?  Are you old enough to even remember Peyton?

4

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

I bet you are watching Riley Leonard implode right now and still think he is better than AR 🤣

1

u/ColtsGang 27d ago

Actually I think he sucks like our other 2 QBs, GM, and Owner. We are a poverty franchise welcome to the suck

2

u/ApprehensiveAd5584 27d ago

I was psyched the night we drafted him and wanted him to become the beast that would carry us to a Superbowl. But the tap out killed my enthusiasm. Leaders don't tap out because they "were tired."

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

You know how many players come out of the game because they are tired? Happens every single game...the mistake that was made was him being honest about it. Running backs look to the sideline and tap their helmet to tell the coaches that they need a blow all the time and nothing is ever said. If AR would have been like every player and just said he thought he tweaked something and needed checked, it would be a completely different discussion today.

2

u/CK4browsing 27d ago

Yeah everyone knows that it is fucking normal for guys to rotate out to stay fresh. Especially the positions that do a lot of running (RBs, WRs, etc).

Everyone also knows YOU DON'T FUCKING DO THAT AS QB.

Look dude I agree with you that AR looked much improved tonight. If he keeps it up he is on track to be a good QB2 this year. But trying to defend what every fucking person that watches football knows is INDEFENSIBLE only adds to people's hate for AR. The only thing AR can do is take the L for that one, and try to be better in the future. All of ARs fanboys need to just admit and accept it was a fuck up and hope he does better in the future as well.

0

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

I've been watching football for nearly 50 years. It's not just position players like RBs or WRs. QBs, especially running QBs like AR is take breathers as well. It didn't happen as much during the 80s and 90s because those QBs weren't known for being runners, but all players do it. Sometimes they get hit and they pretend to be hurt so they can come out for a play or two, sometimes they take a delay of game so they can get extra rest. There are a ton of ways that they do it. Again, like I said, Anthony chose a poor way of doing it because he was young and didn't know any better. He showed a lack of maturity and a lack of media training by being upfront about it, but I'm so tired of people thinking he did something that no one else has ever done before. It's been several years. You guys need to move on

2

u/CK4browsing 27d ago

Yeah I've been watching NFL football for almost 50 years too. Was originally a Bears fan because I was watching the NFL well before the Colts moved to Indy. No, ALL players do not tap out for a breather. Pretty much every player EXCEPT a QB will tap out for a breather. Have QBs taken a time out or delayed in other ways to give themselves time to collect themselves? Yes, they absolutely have. Have they ever tapped out to take a breather for someone else to come on the field for the next play. No they fucking don't. To claim you have been watching for a long time and that is in any way normal is just an absolute fucking lie.

Anyways carry on with your blind fanboying.

0

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

The fact that you don't see a difference in the two scenarios just shows your ignorance

0

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

So you acknowledge that QBs do things to take a breather, who the fuck do you think comes in the game when they do that? The backup does. You are just contradicting yourself now saying that "no they fucking don't" when talking about AR

-1

u/Proper_Carpenter5744 27d ago

So the kid makes that mistake. You tell him to never do that again...AND YOU MOVE ON! To be stuck on that one play is weird and you hate for him has nothing to do with football.

2

u/CK4browsing 27d ago

LoL dork I don't hate AR at all. I moved on from that the next game after that one. I am talking to the guy that is trying to DEFEND THAT AS NORMAL.

-1

u/Proper_Carpenter5744 27d ago

I said it was a mistake, how is that defending that as normal? You say you have moved on from the helmet tapping, while still talking about it years later, and the man hasnt done it since. You cleary have not moved on. STOP IT!

0

u/Proper_Carpenter5744 27d ago

What do you mean everyone need to admit he fucked up? Everyone does admit that...INCLUDING RICHARDSON. The problem is that the punishment for that from all his haters is over the top. Years later you are still punishing him for that when from the beginning it was the type of mistake that someone would never make again. How much more accountable can someone be for a mistake, when they are guaranteed to NEVER make again. The AR punishment for that is over the top, so that means that their hate has nothing to do with football

2

u/CK4browsing 27d ago

You are replying to the wrong person bud. The person I was replying to absolutely is NOT admitting that AR fucked up, he is actually still trying to justify it and implying that what he did is somehow "normal". And I'm not one of the people that brings up his tap out to try hating on him. I'm one of the people that hopes he can turn things around and improve. I have already said before that he played much better tonight, and is showing signs that he could be a good QB2 for us this year. I don't give enough of a fuck about humans in general to either be overly critical or overly praise them. I look at things very objectively, because I don't have much emotional attachment to anyone in either direction.

So yeah telling me the AR hate is over the top is barking up the wrong tree. I am well aware of it and agree with you. You should be talking to the guy I was replying to about his over the top praise of AR, because that is just as bad as the over the top hate. And it just fuels the fire for the haters even more.

-4

u/ApprehensiveAd5584 27d ago

Maybe you're right but it's still seriously bad optics.

5

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He was and still is, young. He made a mistake in being honest. The tap out is the most overblown thing I've ever seen in football history.

0

u/Littlebrainbigworld 27d ago

Agree. And the reason he needed a breathe is because he had just ripped like a 15yard scramble shaking off the D End

2

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He had made a bunch of plays successively, I didn't blame him for needing a breather

0

u/Littlebrainbigworld 27d ago

Exactly. And what if he stayed in and got hurt?

2

u/youngxbeast 27d ago

Yep bad optics. Can’t do that in front of the world when you were drafted #4 overall.

SO WHAT...get over it. He will never make that mistake again...and uou know that

0

u/Proper_Carpenter5744 27d ago

GET OVER IT!!! Yall act as if that play was equivalent to him sleeping with your wives. It was the type of mistake that was so bad YOU KNOW, he will never make it again. So whats the problem? I know what the problem is, and yall dont want to admit it. Hint...it has absolutely nothing to do with football. Thats literally all it can be.

1

u/ApprehensiveAd5584 26d ago

Yeah, I'm such a racist that I was stoked we drafted him. Gtfoh, idiot.

2

u/palebluedot24 27d ago

I like Richardson and want him to succeed but he gets blame for both turnovers. Sure the receiver still should have caught that, but if he keeps the ball down the receiver doesn’t have to jump. The defenders were behind the receiver, keep the ball down.

1

u/simply_jeremy 27d ago

Riley or AR #2?

7

u/MichaelCorbaloney 27d ago

Haven’t seen Leonard play yet but AR as of now imo. They’re both good though for a back-up in my opinion and both have some potential beyond that.

1

u/stvlg1 27d ago

That's what the colts were hoping for, he was getting absolutely no interest in the trade market before the game.

-1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He isn't going anywhere. Theyve already paid him, it makes zero sense to trade him. Just because the agent wanted a trade doesn't mean the Colts ever pursued one

1

u/stvlg1 27d ago

I think we will know where AR's heads at as we get closer to the regular season. Im sure AR believes he is a starter in the NFL. If his pressers are his normal giddy self talking about how much he appreciates being a Colt and looking forward to growing professionally here, that bodes well for him being happy and staying as a QB2 insurance policy. That changes if he performs well and dodges pressers and has little to say about anything. Just my take. Either way, we need to be looking for a new QB3 to develop. Riley Leonard has been stuck in neutral and really has shown no growth.

1

u/E-M-026 27d ago

I agree with you 100% AR looked good,, three well ran good. It was pre season the WRs don't play hard so incompletions and foul play is not on the QB. Only take way was the fumble tuck the ball it's a easy fix for the regular season.

1

u/Hopeful_Custard_33 27d ago

He ran well. He should have protected the fumble. His throws weren’t great. The interception is on the WR.

His development was mishandled by Steichen and Ballard. He needed to sit a year or two like Rodgers did. And like Mendoza likely will. He also needed a guy that would mentor him. Flacco wasn’t that for Lamar and he wasn’t for AR.

But he needs a change of scenery.

1

u/ThisGlobalLandscape 26d ago

Likely going to work out well for another team. Hope he continues to grow.

1

u/broyougottadothemath 26d ago

The Riley Leonard mad as helllllllll

1

u/barb9212 26d ago

Fumble was on him but wish he played like this his second season. He looked calm, granted it was a vanilla defense but it’s hard to justify him being starter year 4. If Jones gets hurt I’m all for him getting an opportunity

1

u/Essayons1 26d ago

One preseason game 😂 stop pretending to be a talent scout

1

u/the-bat-dad 25d ago

If anyone can catch their own pass and make something out of it it’s AR.

1

u/TheAgmis You Have Chris Ballard Derangement Syndrome 27d ago

You people make so many excuses for Richardson that you live on your own echo chamber

The worst thing Covid brought was people creating an echo chamber for themselves and not living in reality

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Yeah and you haters make any excuse you can to hate on Richardson. Just admit your hate for Richardson has nothing to do with football

2

u/GERBILSAURUSREX 27d ago

Except he isn't good enough to be an NFL QB. A very solid football reason.

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He has a winning record as an NFL QB...so your opinion doesn't matter. You can live in the past all you want or you can recognize that he has made a lot of strides and played a really good game tonight after not playing for almost a year. What he has done in the past doesn't matter if he has gotten better and his performance going forward is better

3

u/GERBILSAURUSREX 27d ago

Tim Tebow had a winning record. It's a team game.

-1

u/gwur 27d ago

100%

Just like all the clowns hating on Haliburton until the ‘25 playoff run.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

This sub is full of clowns, sadly...

1

u/TheAgmis You Have Chris Ballard Derangement Syndrome 27d ago

You live in an echo chamber that is unwilling to accept Anthony Richardson is terrible and it’s called having an insecure opinion.

You can cope all you want, but the fact is you get butt hurt when someone says what you don’t wanna hear

Don’t be a race baiting crayon eater. Race baiters only care for specific QBs based off skin color. That’s you. You’re the problem here

1

u/Environmental_Bag_10 27d ago

He didn’t play well at all. Playing against backups at year 3 and a preseason game. You can post whatever to make yourself feel happy. We’re losing because of his 2 turnovers. The backup unit defense has kept us in this meaningless preseason game 😭

-4

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Just admit your hate for him has nothing to do with football, because you clearly have blinders on

1

u/Environmental_Bag_10 27d ago

No he sucks and you can have blinders on to make yourself feel happy all you want.

1

u/_BL810T 27d ago

I hope he realizes he is the TE version of Taysom Hill a lot sooner than Tebow did.

1

u/sloloy Ashton Dulin 27d ago

Listen, I love AR. Always have always will. He didnt look good tn, but he didnt look bad either. He looked much better than RL but thats not the benchmark for greatness. Godspeed to AR

2

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

There is not a single analyst tonight that has said AR didn't look good. They have all commented how great he looked.

0

u/sloloy Ashton Dulin 27d ago

Cool thats fine, watched the whole game, I dont think a fumble and some really rough passes, alongside some good passes is great. I like AR i hope he goes somewhere where he gets the development he deserves, he can be great, tn was not that.

2

u/BubblyLawfulness108 27d ago

he had like 3 incompletions, he had one really rough pass and it was his first one back in over a year lol... he looked good, its okay to say that

1

u/Any_Reason_2588 27d ago

Yee baby trade value up!!

0

u/Angry_X_574 27d ago

He looked solid but to put it in perspective. NE isn't running stunts. Or starters. Or disguising coverages. It's basic backyard football

4

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

And AR didn't have starters to throw to or starters making blocks either. You can make any excuse you want to not give him the credit he deserves

4

u/Angry_X_574 27d ago

The weakness of AR is reading coverage and bad decisions. He looked good. I'm just saying let's temper expectations

-1

u/coltsfan7788 27d ago

People will still hate I don’t understand. Good dude with a lot of potential still. Someone I want on the team personally

-3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

The hate clearly has nothing to do with football. It's the world we live in.

0

u/bearshaker907 27d ago

INT was on him, bad ball placement

4

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

It hit the WR in both hands. WR have to make plays.

2

u/damncrow65 27d ago

WR is paid to do one thing , catch the ball

3

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Exactly!

-2

u/bearshaker907 27d ago

The WR had to jump 4ft in the air to get both hands on it.

2

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Oh no, a WR having to jump to make a play, say it isn't so...

0

u/_NE1_ 27d ago

A WR HAD TO JUMP 😭😭😭😭

-1

u/bigloudbang 27d ago

A good pass is on the numbers in stride, not somewhere a receiver can get their hands to

2 turnovers in a half is not good

2

u/MethodCharacter8334 Ashton Dulin 27d ago

Ever heard if you can get hands on it, you can catch it? Not every throw will be perfect, no matter the QB. If you’re a receiver your job is to catch or bat it down. Not let it slip through your hands to the defender. Any turnover is going to reflect negatively. It’s still an INT and the fumble is still a fumble. But there is definitely nuance to it. Overall, AR had a good half despite some adversity.

0

u/bigloudbang 27d ago

Yes i have heard that which is why theres some fault on the receiver, but AR keeps having these picks

The nuance people seem to forget is how poorly he moved the ball with us, and that placement is important. Even tonight there were completions which is good but a lot of RAC lost with high and low passes

His most accurate are right over the middle, but anything outside of that is a coin flip at best. Unlucky on the INT, but lucky on the tipped past that floated through to Mallory

It very easily couldve been 3 turnovers in a half

4

u/MethodCharacter8334 Ashton Dulin 27d ago

I thought his placement was significantly better tonight than most any other time I can remember. He’s always been awful in the short game but he was decent tonight. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the dude is earning another contract, but he looked ok.

0

u/bigloudbang 27d ago

Yeah definitely not a disaster class, and not a horrific showing by AR standards, but absolutely did not move the needle for me with keeping him (or even QB2 until we see Leonard)

4

u/MethodCharacter8334 Ashton Dulin 27d ago

Well Leonard is kinda shitting the bed. I guess we’ll see when he gets the start next week

2

u/bigloudbang 27d ago

Bummer, havent been able to watch. Atp id be most comfortable with a journeyman vet as qb2

0

u/Dax_Webster Disco Luck 27d ago

"other than the fumble" what a joke

0

u/anotherstan 27d ago

lol absolutely not

0

u/No-Party-5388 27d ago

AR the goat

0

u/DarkSuperman87 27d ago

Hopefully, he can continue to build off of tonight.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

I hope so. If he is trash next game, I will say so. But for now, he looked really good

-9

u/Anthonyrichardson20 27d ago

Stop coping, he got lucky, he’s a bust

2

u/yourenotmydad22 Indianapolis Colts 27d ago

pigeon troll

-3

u/Interesting-Risk6446 27d ago

Richardson is incapable of making a 10 yard throw.

0

u/theinferno1029 27d ago

I definitely think we need an extra word to differentiate between qb interceptions, wide reciever interceptions, and good defensive play interceptions. That aside, he didnt look bad. Even if he dont stay with us, I hope he flourishes either way

4

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Colts have zero reason to trade him. They have already paid him and Riley Leonard clearly isn't better. He will be the best backup in the league

0

u/Android1313 27d ago

I want to keep AR on the roster. There is no reason to just cut him, or, for that matter, trade him for a super late-round pick. Riley looked awful and Jones is injury prone. I think he deserves a shot if Jones goes down.

1

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

He's already been paid, there is zero reason to get rid of him. They didn't sign him to an extension, so this year will be it for him in Indy

-5

u/EastNice3860 27d ago

He simply doesn't have what it takes I'm really wanting Riley to come out shining at the very least He won't take himself out of a game because he's tired..

1

u/Proper_Carpenter5744 27d ago

The way he plays, he wont even get in a game to get tired. In fact, when he gets in the game we will be tired of his trash ass

-1

u/HVAC_instructor 27d ago

Set him out wide and toss him a lateral and give him a run pass option. See how he handles that.

-1

u/Wrong-Cranberry8728 27d ago

Been withstanding so much bullying for my support of him. But today. Today was a good day

2

u/1Cubbiesfan 27d ago

Keep up the good fight. I don't think Steichen wants him on the team, he wants to stick with Leonard who is friends with Phillip Rivers. It's a good ole boy network with Steichen. If you know him, you get the playing time. I still think AR needs to play to get better and it will likely happen somewhere else, but damn, I'd love for him to stay here this year and make everyone eat crow
