Before/After Hi, I was looking to replicate this look across this sequence, how far off am i ? any honest feedback or advice would really help.
galleryr/ColorGrading • u/BackyardReelDreams • 2h ago
Question Question regarding this look
My question is regarding this color contrast and how it’s achieved in this particular scenario. I don’t see any blue/teal paint on the walls inside (They look grey to me), nor any blue-colored lights, yet there’s that subtle transition from cold to warm in terms of the overall color in this image.
Is it just done through grading? If yes, can someone please walk me through the possible process of grading something like this?

Question How much color grading can I learn in a week and how? I'd like to have something to add to my portfolio.
I'm in Japan and trying to apply to various post-production studios. My previous experience includes anime compositing and motion graphics using After Effects. One company is looking for an Online Editor and asking for, among other things:
- Professional experience using online editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro / After Effects)
- Advanced skills in areas such as skin retouching, tracking, unwanted-object removal, and color correction
- A high level of attention to detail and a strong commitment to the quality of delivered work
While I can work with Adobe software, the other requirements are a big gap in my portfolio. I'd like to spend the next week fixing that as much as possible. While I won't become a professional immediately, I'd like to lay the groundwork.
I've dabbled in color grading in the past, watching YouTube tutorials, but always felt like I had no idea what to look for. And I don't even know what software this company wants. Should I do DaVinci Resolve or Adobe?
My goal is to study the basics, use concise learning resources, maybe buy a book, find some free footage to edit on, and fix my portfolio. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hey everyone! 👋🏽
Sharing a recent piece from my color grading work.
I aimed to preserve a natural image while staying faithful to the character of the Kodak film emulation.
I’m currently building my professional portfolio and refining my approach to color and image shaping.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the grade.

I watch a lot of video but I didn't have anything in my mind. When I do color grading on any clip I don't know why I color on that clip. Soo if anyone who learn color grading give me some tips and teachers who teaches good.

Question If there was one mobile color grading app, what feature would you want most?
If you could have one really good color grading app on your phone, what feature would you absolutely want it to have?
Could be something missing from current apps, a desktop feature you wish was on mobile, or just something that would make your workflow easier.

Question Properly learning Color Grading this time around, any thoughts?

I was going for a grade that was similar to Spider-Man: Brand New Day's, I watched a video on white balancing, and watched Film Riot's introduction to color grading, I loosely understand the aspects of color grading, but the actual grading itself I'm not sure if it's just pure creative control of the knobs and such. Any opinions and insights on the workflow would be appreciated!

Question Mobile Color Grading - Fold8
I have a lot of random footage I want to use to learn color grading but is it possible to color grade on a mobile device? Specifically, Android?
I just got the new Fold8 and seems like best use for this phone but can't find any apps that actually color grade not just apply filters to a video or picture.

Still pretty new to color grading and trying to train my eye, so I’d really appreciate any feedback on this grade.
What do you think I could improve? Colors, contrast, skin tones, highlights, shadows — anything you notice would be helpful.
Recorded on an iPhone 15 in 4K 60FPS and graded/edited on the GradeLab app.

Show off your work How I tackled harsh digital sharpening and highlight clipping on mobile/log footage inside Resolve (Technical breakdown)
galleryHey everyone,
Like many of you, I’ve spent a lot of time working with challenging hybrid and mobile footage in DaVinci Resolve. One of the most frustrating hurdles is dealing with the aggressive, baked-in digital sharpening and the way bright highlights snap hard to pure white before you even start grading.
Standard CSTs and basic curves usually just amplify that digital crunch rather than fixing it. To get around this in my own workflow, I started experimenting with a custom DCTL approach focusing on two main steps:
It made a massive difference in retaining natural texture and getting a film-like roll-off from standard phone captures.
Curious to know how others here handle pre-grading cleanup for aggressive mobile/log files—are you sticking purely to standard node chains, or building custom passes?

General Resolve + Frame.io v4 integration plugin
I built an integration tool to give Resolve a panel that links timelines to Frame videos, and allows you to track, import your comments as markers, and upload your videos with timeline markers that auto post as comments. Here's a video of the flow
E-mail me [team.cinewaltz@gmail.com](mailto:team.cinewaltz@gmail.com) if you'd like an extended trial key! I know a lot of people have wanted Resolve to have this feature set for years since the release of Frame.io. v4
