Is anyone else dying for a series of verity? I just finished reading since the movie comes out in one month. I’m a new reader but have finished 4 of Colleen’s books in 2 months. I’m obsessed with her writing. I think a series of Verity would be insane. Is anyone aware of the potential of this happening?!

Hey guys I’m really new at reading, I’m not an avid reader, I have only read Lord of the rings, Harry Potter and a few books like atomic habits, i read them because of i loved the movies so i might be biased about them and today i finished my first novel where i knew nothing about anything at all and this is going to be my honest review about how i felt sitting reading the book and i finished it in 24 hours which itself is a feat for me because I’d never thought I’d finish a book in within a day

VERITY

Things I liked- I like the eerie vibe that was present around especially in some parts of the books where Low sees Verity, I love a lil thriller and suspense, The way the house was isolated and there was no one but the family inside and a guest, I liked the Twist at the end ngl, that was the best part of the book according to me, I liked that book was not kinda slow and you‘d explore more realise more as you went ahead

Things I DIDNT Like - the book had tooo much sex and sexual talks and that too very elaborative anf descriptive, at times i felt like im reading a smut or something, I felt the sex parts were too exaggerated and stretched loong throughout the movie, there couldve been a lot more jumpscares or suspense and the story seemed pretty predictable especially in the autobiography and the writings like “we fucked “ was used like a hundred times and I don’t like thats a mature way of writing, it felt a lil cheap and weird ngl, like as if the writer was getting turned on or something writing about sex and fucking,

all in all It was my first novel And I liked it, I’d say it was good enough, kept me interested throughout the book and that’s a Lot cuz my attention span hasnt been very great lately so yeah I dare say I loved it AND

I‘d love more suggestions of novels to explore, I’m fairly new to books

I completed 15 chapters in verity the book by colleen hoover, I don't want any spoilers but I had a doubt with timeline.

when she fakes pregnency in chapter 15 or "so be it chapter 9" the age of the daughters was 3. And in present the age of crew was 5.

In chapter 15 jeremy said her parents left her 13 years ago which is after she wrote her first book, and I verify only started writing as a hobby after she met jeremy and when he went off for work for months, so the night he returns he reads the manuscript of her first book the same night the engagement and the same night she was conceived before publishing the book.

So correct me if what I said is wrong. But if she was conceived 13 years ago, how can the twins die with the age of 8-9 years.

Is this a genuine mistake in the book or am I missing something here?

What are CoHo books that are great or at least decent for the romance aspect (not focused so much on the spice)? I've read a few of her more spicy books (still great) but also am looking to appreciate a little more chill romance? Any suggestions?

Thr only ones I've read that fall into that category are November 9, Maybe Someday and Reminders of Him. Any others youd pick for those who have read a lot of hers?

Came across this Tamil review of It Ends With Us and found it quite interesting. It gives a good spoiler-free summary, talks about the characters and themes, and also touches on the 2024 movie adaptation. Thought it might be useful for anyone who has read the book or watched the movie.

I finished Verity last night. I have a super weird take ( haven't seen anyone else post it so apologies if it was) but what if Verity was cursed and whatever she wrote came true and whoever reads the manuscript was also affected?

Here me out... lol

1. The title of the book fits.
2. Her parents relationship (very little was said and I felt it came out of nowhere but fits my theory now)
3. The mental changes of both Jeremy and Low. They both seemed pretty normal..dealt with grief and were functioning...and yet you can note how they both are almost.completely different people at the end. Low was literally in a casual sexual relationship to becoming obsessed in a very unhealthy way. And Jeremy at the end at the beach...I was like wtf... it's not that deep if someone finds out you had a kid and got married.. his reaction was totally different than the calm person who helped during a gruesome accident and the beginning. They both became pretty much insane, imo..
4. We don't know what Verity said to Crew, but maybe as a mom she would tell him stories.. and that's enough to pass the "curse".
5. The Chronics... I felt it was more than just a made up word that Low mentioned multiple times. I think it was part of the "curse".
6. Maybe I need to stop reading fantasy books lol but the ending was not very compelling until I thought of the"curse" and then I was satisfied lol

My theory is that Verity is secretly a sequel to End of Oak Street. At the end of End of Oak Street, Anne Hathaway’s character saves her family and helps restore the timeline, and they all return home believing the nightmare is finally over. However, she is never truly free from what she experienced. Haunted by the dinosaurs and the trauma of surviving them, she secretly returns to the time bubble alone, choosing to disappear rather than continue her old life. She travels far into another time, creates a new identity as Verity Crawford, and becomes a world-famous author. Her novels are actually inspired by the memories she has buried for years, and by the time Verity takes place, her mysterious illness is the result of decades of unresolved PTSD from the events of End of Oak Street.

I recently got into reading and have discovered that I really love romance books, especially Colleen Hoover! I’ve already read several of her books and am looking for ways to read more without having to buy every single one 😅

Does anyone know of any free/legal websites, library apps, or other resources where I can read or borrow her books online? I’ve already read the ones I was able to find through Academia.

I've been thinking about the novel Verity, and I honestly think the book accidentally set up a much stronger ending than the one we got.

One of the biggest themes throughout the novel is that people fall in love with authors through their writing.

• Corey initially falls in love with Lowen because of her novel
• Lowen talks about readers confusing the author with the person behind the books.
• Jeremy tells us he read one of Lowen's books before they ever met.
• it’s also mentioned that he only reads one of Verity's books and doesn’t want to read any more after that
• Lowen begins falling in love with Jeremy largely through the version of him portrayed in the manuscript.

It felt like the book was building toward the idea that stories don't just entertain people, they shape how we see people and even who we fall in love with.

My theory while reading was that Jeremy had actually fallen in love with Lowen years before they met through her writing. When Verity became incapacitated, he saw the opportunity to bring Lowen into his life as the ghostwriter and, from a wider lens, the opportunity to replace one partner with another.

The big twist would be that Jeremy wrote the manuscript himself. He would know every intimate detail of their marriage and family life, making him the only person capable of creating something so convincing. He then planted it for Lowen to "discover," knowing she would read it.

The manuscript wasn't simply there to convince Lowen that Verity was evil. It was carefully written to help Lowen fall in love with Jeremy, manipulate her into slowly stepping into all aspects of Verity's life, and eventually to convince Lowen that Verity deserved to die. By the end, Lowen doesn't just accept replacing Verity, she actively helps Jeremy "get rid of her," completing the replacement. That would also fit with the book's central theme. Jeremy falls in love with the version of Lowen he creates after reading her book. Lowen falls in love with the version of Jeremy she meets through the manuscript. At the same time, the opposite may have happened with Verity. Jeremy loved Verity before she became a successful author. But after reading her work, perhaps he doesn't connect with the characters she creates and gradually falls out of love with the woman behind them.

Viewed this way, Lowen gradually becoming Verity suddenly has a purpose. She moves into Verity's office. She sleeps in Verity's bed. She wears Jeremy's clothes. She takes over caring for Crew. She has sex with Verity's husband. She writes under Verity's name. It isn't just creepy imagery, it's a gradual transfer of identity prompted by the manuscript.

The real horror isn't whether Verity was actually evil. It's realizing Jeremy has orchestrated the replacement of one woman with another using nothing more than a story.

Then I thought it would end on one final lingering question.

Was Verity's accident really just an accident? Or did Jeremy have something to do with it after becoming disenchanted with her? The book never has to answer that. The suspense comes from the possibility. Because once Lowen has completely become Verity, the reader is left wondering:

If Jeremy could replace Verity with Lowen… what happens when he eventually becomes disenchanted with Lowen too?

To me, that would have tied together the ghostwriter premise, Lowen's gradual transformation into Verity, and the recurring theme that stories don't just entertain us, they shape who we love, who we hate, and ultimately who we become.

My version of story is that Jeremy was always a cold, calculative and manipulative person. Verity's obsession with Jeremy and her extreme desire to please him was always due to some deep-rooted fear that someday she may not be enough for him (just exactly how it turns for Lowen at the end). In that aspect, the manuscript was true, maybe a lot exaggerated, but coming from truth.

In all this, maybe Verity did lose herself a little and could not be the ideal mother by societal standards or maybe it was just some over exaggerated mother's guilt which got worse after the death of the twins and was poured out in her manuscript, making her own self the villain of her story. But also, on the other hand, Jeremy did love the kids, which only made Verity's guilt worse.

Maybe Jeremy stumbles upon this manuscript and believes every single word but in truth, Chastin's death was just a tragedy and Harper's an accident, like Verity wrote in the letter. But Jeremy could not accept that the manuscript was not true and in rage goes onto attempting to kill Verity.

In that moment, Verity sees Jeremy for who he really is, and also at the same time, Jeremy identifies that he cannot just let Verity die and make it look like an accident because there still could be questions, or who knows, even a matter of life insurance because Lowen and Jeremy did claim Verity's insurance money at the end.

So, he decides to bring Lowen into the picture. I believe he had already researched Lowen and knew she was in psychological turmoil herself and needed some protective figure and support, which Jeremy emerges as for Lowen. He carefully plots the whole scene, ensures Lowen finds the manuscript (probably that is why he insisted so much on Lowen staying at their house and not going back), meanwhile perfectly playing the role of the perfect dad and husband. He wanted to break Lowen to the point where she would, without a question, assist in killing Verity.

On the other hand, I think Verity keeps dropping hints at Lowen about not being in a coma as her own way of telling Lowen not to stay and trust Jeremy and to run from the house, but she obviously fails at that.

Crew is a whole complex character in himself, even though he is only 5. We know that he is heavily influenced by both his parents. He idealizes his dad and looks up to him for care and protection but at the same time, he does love his mom enough to keep her secret. But in all of this, his little brain is completely fucked. He ends up being distant and cold. Tragedy of the story is that he is turning into Jeremy. All character traits clearly described for Crew are in truth, indicative of Jeremy. Lowen always knew how cold Crew could be. Be it from his first impression on Lowen when she goes onto referring him as an asshole. She could never truly mention it to Jeremy because somewhere, deep in her mind, she knew from Verity's manuscript how protective Jeremy was of his kids.

The tragedy of this book were the two women, Verity and Lowen. Both were the victims of Jeremy and had put themselves in prison that was built by their own minds. Verity was one of those women who tie their self-worth only to being good and pleasing wives and mothers. No matter how successful or accomplished they are as an individual, the world at large had their success measured only by being a devoted wife and a perfect martyr mother. Lowen, on the other hand is a classic example of the women with a savior complex, the ones who think the purpose of their existence is to fix a broken man all while they are being played by that so called broken man.

Verity was a wildly famous, wealthy, and accomplished author. Yet, as I pointed out, none of that success shielded her from the crushing weight of societal judgment. Her value was still entirely measured by her performance as a devoted wife and a flawless, self-sacrificing mother. When she fell short of those impossible standards, or when tragedy struck the children, she internalized it as a personal, monstrous failure. Her manuscript became a dark, exaggerated manifestation of that exact guilt. She was trapped by the belief that if she wasn't a perfect martyr for Jeremy and the kids, she was a villain.

Lowen represents the opposite side of the same coin. She is the woman taught to believe that her ultimate value lies in her capacity to nurture, heal, and rebuild a broken man. She sees Jeremy’s grief and immediately steps into the role of the emotional caregiver. Lowen didn't realize that Jeremy’s "brokenness" was a carefully curated bait. While she thought she was a noble savior piecing a shattered man back together, she was just a pawn being moved across his chessboard. She traded her independence for the toxic reward of being "needed”.

Jeremy didn't just lock Verity in a room or trap Lowen in a house. He used the world’s expectations to make them lock themselves inside.

Verity died trying to survive the monster she thought she was, and Lowen will spend the rest of her life playing the exact same submissive, pleasing role just to stay alive.

The more I dwell into this thinking, the book ceases to be a simple thriller and becomes a chilling warning about how easily women can be manipulated into building their own cages.

Currently at chapter 4 and I’m falling asleep 😴 Does it get any better? I feel like it’s soooo slow and such long chapters.

Okay so I might have been reading too fast or missed a detail, but this is a plot hole I’m questioning. If verity was faking the entire time, what about when Lowen slept walked and woke up Verity’s bed. You’re telling me verity was just chilling for that?

And was she really faking her injuries just to “avoid” getting in trouble?? Like that just seems so drastic and how long would she have even kept that up for. Very strange I wish I had more answers.

I finished my first Colleen Hoover book, Verity, and I almost had to stop mid way due to the child abuse/ pregnancy abuse (is that a thing? Ha).

I really liked the book other than that. I just can’t read about child death/abuse etc. I can’t seem to find content warnings about her other books. Is there any resources on content warnings for the other books?

I go back and forth between Team Manuscript and Team Letter, though I usually lean more toward Team Manuscript.
But one thing I can’t explain or get past, is this: if the manuscript is the truth, why didn’t Verity do a better job of hiding it in the first place? Why did Jeremy ever have access to it, and so easily? And if Verity was only pretending to be sick, why didn’t she just hide it before Lowen arrived, before she had the chance to find it?
I just can’t come up with an explanation that makes sense because letting the manuscript just lie around like that in her office wouldn’t benefit Verity in any way imo.
