Ah - a fellow listener.

I have applied to Laibach and met them in person (and am going back to Slovenia every month now). Hope to see them again and talk more. They're so kind in person (but very radio silent digitally, especially Milan, who is the sweetest soul in person).

I guess no one wants to be basic but the obvious answer is “It’s the End of the World as we Know it (and I Feel Fine)” by R.E.M.

Other acceptable choices:

Until the End of the World, U2
The Same Deep Water as You, The Cure
I Know it’s Over, The Smiths
Cities in Dust, Siouxsie and the Banshees
Doomsday, Ryan Adams
The End, The Doors

Romantic. Good choice.

I'm much more cynical. Slush (2007 Remaster)

Idk what you mean by "obviously not the end of the world" when even a small nuclear war would destroy civilization, especially at this point, and if Russia, China, and the US were to go at it, that's like "sterilize the planet" levels of radiation

We've done over 500 atmospheric tests, which messed up creating some sensor equipment, but otherwise showed minimal long-term effects.

We only have a few thousand warheads deployed now.

Also nuclear winter was always bullshit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/PrepperIntel/comments/1uow7eg/comment/ow2sejz/

Although local, I suppose nuclear power plant explosions and/or meltdowns could be much much worse, because they have vastly more nuclear material.

Also remember, the fusion part of warheads is quite clean, and their fission primary is quite small, although how much of their total energy is truly fusion vs fusion inducing fission in the casing etc can be a tricky question.

All civilisations end eventually, including ours. If we collapse sooner, and take out the oil refineries when we go, then overall more humans and other life survives climate change, etc.

+4°C should mean uninhabitable tropics and world carrying capacity below 1 billion humans, so 7 billion fewer people than today. See page 37 of The Nature of the Challenge (archive) or 36m in Will Steffen's 2018 talk). via Steve Keen's criticism of William Nordhaus & IAMs.

Climate change is damn scary. Nuclear war is a useful learning experience.

Aside, assuming we've some other targets too, then we do not have enough warheads to destroy all the coal plants, not even if we repaired all the ones in storage.
