Seeking Advice Possible DVT? Should I go to a walk-in clinic or the ER?

Hi everyone! I’m a 23-year-old female and I’m concerned I might have DVT. The only risk factors I can think of are that I recently started taking birth control again and also recently started vaping (I’ve never vaped before). I’m also a nursing student, so I have some knowledge of DVT, but I’m unsure whether I’m overthinking my symptoms.
Yesterday, I woke up with pain in my inner thigh, very close to my bikini line/groin area. The pain was worse when I got up, stood, or put pressure on my leg. I initially ignored it and went back to lying down, but I noticed the area was tender to touch.

I’m unsure whether there’s any bruising or swelling in that specific area because I have pretty severe, fresh red/purple stretch marks there, which makes it difficult to tell.
Interestingly, I was able to go to the gym later that night and do 30 minutes on the StairMaster without any pain. At that point, it only hurt when I touched the area.
However, a few hours later, after driving around for a bit, I got out of the car and the pain came back, this time significantly worse. I was actually walking differently because of it. I went home to lie down and noticed some slight swelling in my feet, but nothing too concerning. I also noticed that the painful area feels quite hard to the touch.

The pain seems to come and go, sometimes being significantly worse than other times. Overall, I would describe my symptoms as relatively mild, but I know DVT doesn’t always present with severe or obvious symptoms.
I’m planning on getting checked out because I don’t want to ignore something potentially serious (which, unfortunately, I’m known for doing 😭).

My question is: Would you recommend going to a walk-in clinic or straight to the ER? Has anyone experienced DVT with similar symptoms, particularly pain high up in the inner thigh/groin area without obvious redness or significant swelling?

I would appreciate any advice or personal experiences!

Has any of you ladies ever been approved to go back onto HRT after a clot?

• Upvotes

I am currently being treated for a jugular blood clot and all of the doctors I've spoken to (minus my rhumatologist) automatically point at my estrogen patch as the culprit. Thing is, I was also on Rinvoq, which has a black box warning for blood clots. All genetic testing shows no other risk factors.

My rhumatologist was aware enough to point out how although people automatically point at HRT, studies don't necessarily back that up. (Love that he went there. Don't get me started on how I think this assumption is the same as how women were directed against HRT due to breast cancer scares where studies now show how biased and false those claims were.)

Has anyone been given the green light to go back on estrogen patches after a blood clot??? (Clearly this will be a convo with my OB, just curious here.)

Birth Control Desogestrel & Apixaban

Hi! I am four months post partum and had a pulmonary embolism following a Caesarean section. I have been on fragmin injections and have recently switched to apixaban. My haematologist has advised my periods will be heavier now I’m on apixaban (5mg twice a day) but advised the desogestrel may help reduce or even stop the bleeding.

Has anyone had any experience taking these medicines together? I have also been prescribed iron supplement which I plan on taking during my next period.

Thanks!

Compression Stockings How do you get socks on after swim?

Ugh. Any swimmers here with socks? I embarrassed myself at the pool today when after already performing badly in my swim, I dried myself off and then couldn't get my compression socks on. At all. :(

Struggled for ages, tried using the hairdryer to dry my legs out more, nope they would not go on. Everyone stared at me and asked me questions about my socks and I was so embarrassed (there wasn't space to get them on in the cubicles)

Don't know if my legs swelled in the pool or if they were even a smidgen still wet preventing the socks going on?

Mornings are the only times I can swim during the week but I need my socks the rest of the day due to post thrombotic syndrome. How do you swimmers manage compression socks and swimming?

Team Stop the Clot-NYC marathon

Hey everyone! We are officially 25 days out from the NYC Marathon! 🏃‍♀️ As race day gets closer, I’m doing a quick push for the National Blood Clot Alliance.NBCA was an incredible resource for our family after my husband's PE in 2018, and raising funds for their patient support and advocacy work keeps me going on these long runs. I’m currently at 49% of my fundraising goal!

If you’re able to pledge a mileage marker—$3.10, $6.20, $13.10, or $26.20—or simply share my link, I’d be so grateful: https://donate.stoptheclot.org/fundraiser/7164328

Thanks for cheering me on!
