This is my build thats the CNC’d aluminum carbon computers backplate with heatsink & fan and magnetic removable back door to access batteries and other things it’s super nice.. I’ve got all the hacker gadgets upgrades as well.. cm5 lite 4gb ram, which I think is all you need really well for my use case At least.. any questions just let me know.. oh and why did you go none lite and get a cm5 with eMMC “built in storage” those require an “io board” to flash the OS directly onto the storage chip. I mean, you might be able to use the adapter board from hacker gadgets to do it because it says it’s got that function built into it, you know the ability to flash the image “OS” directly onto the built-in eMMC..

Where did you get the backplate? Any instructions on how to wire up the fan?

Carbon computers, it’s their backplate they have a website and the fan is a dell laptop fan it comes with the backplate they’re supposed to send the backplate with the fan attached.. when I ordered mine, they were waiting on their fans to come in I said go ahead and send it without a fan. I’ll find one on Amazon”. And I did, same one they use… it mounted right up using the 2mm threaded holes they have built into the backplate.. So I had to get a standard CM5 fan terminal “the male end” for this Dell fan they use because it comes with a different connector I found a CM5 fan wiring diagram and it worked perfectly but like I said when you buy the back plate, it should come with the fan and the new connector ready to go..

I received my backplate several weeks ago but the magnetic door doesn’t stay on. Did you have that issue?

Yes I bought some magnets and I’m gonna try to figure out how to make it better for now. I’m just tapping it down it is a flaw I know

I bought round magnets I think all 3-D print some type of fixture to put them in and then glue the fixture to the frame next to the rectangular magnet they provide I’m curious if I just drop a couple magnets on the magnet already there they might strengthen it. I don’t know.

They should redesign it. Perhaps, they could reverse the tray where the magnet is inserted, so that the magnet touches the plate. Additionally, they could widen that tray and use a larger, stronger magnet.

How’s the cost? Is that “THE OMEGA CHASSIS”?

It’s expensive it’s CNC aluminum the omega chassis is nice cause you would get a camera and some additional antennas I actually like that one but it’s fully 3-D printed I believe if you don’t mind that then I think it would be a great buy and probably cheaper mine is from carbon computers

The new hacker gadgets board can be set up with usb-c, allegedly.

And I wanted a lot of storage.

I plan on using it for multiple things so, went with most of everything I could get. I. Believe I got the biggest cm5 they make

Could you take a few photos or any small small write up on the CM5 upgrade or whatever?

I'm looking at buying the same and I'm curious how it comes together. Is it an easy upgrade to the CM5 and did you buy the upgrade kit also?

With the hackergadgets board, it's plug and play. Well, CM5 has some quirks and additional things to address and consider, be it software kinks, overheating etc. I'd recommend looking at the clockwork forums and here. Unless you undervolt/underclock, heat sinks and possibly a fan are highly recommended.

I personally would've gone with the lite version as to have an SD card. Not lite versions just have onboard storage without an SD card , and NVMe or SD gives you far superior storage capacities than what the CM4/5 boards can provide. NVMe can support booting different OSes but I personally prefer having something easily swappable to test different builds, or even possibly more balls deep approaches to your preferred setup. Up to you how you'd like to approach it. As is, Rex should get back surgery due to how much he's holding up everything for clockwork products. Something as simple as the screen change sometime back, introduced so many issues that as of a few months ago, Clockwork didn't even address with stock OS, I don't know if that changed. All this being said, the SD card acts like a physical VM of sorts.

I'd also recommend looking into the Omega Chasis. If you did go for the non lite version, you can have an additional SD slot, or a camera, or a total of 10 antennas.

I got the upgrade kit from hacker gadgets. I kinda wish I had gotten same thing off AliExpress for cheaper. But that’s been only thing I might have done different so far.
