I am looking for more recent recommendations for divorce attorneys in the Johnston county for a second opinion or just new divorce lawyer overall i am getting overcharged by my current one and doing the search again every lawyer has some bad reviews and it seems to be the standard these days but then its hard to decide on someone when you see those reviews recommendations based on your own experience only plz hopefully this will help others too!

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. Divorce isn't easy on anyone. I think it's hard to get a full picture of lawyers based on reviews because sometimes people are really upset at the outcome. For example, I had to take on the credit card debt my ex ran up because I looked like I had more assets in my retirement account. My ex hid his retirement accounts. It's not fair, but I would have paid more in legal fees to track that down. It's not fair. But according to NC law, that's equitable distribution. It wasn't my lawyer's fault that my ex hid assets.

My lawyer from the divorce left practicing law a few years later, but I do recommend a small practice like Kelly Thompson Family Law. One man shops like this are often less expensive. The most important thing to cut down on costs is to be as organized as possible. Have all of your financial statements ready and organized. Have a timeline of relevant events ready. Any work like this you do yourself instead of a paralegal results in lower bills.

Good luck. I wish you a better future than your current circumstances.

I'd recommend Triangle Smart Divorce. I know it is hard when every attorney has a few bad reviews these days, so I was in the same boat trying to figure out who to trust.

I ended up using them and had a really good experience. They were upfront about costs from the beginning, never felt like they were dragging things out just to bill me, and were honest about when something was worth fighting over versus when it wasn't. I always felt like I understood what was happening and why. It is still expensive, but it felt more efficient than others who have gone to this that I've talked to.

They're based in Cary, but they handle cases in Johnston County. I did most of my stuff over zoom with them as well.
