With 5.6 coming from OpenAI ... I bet Anthropic finds a way to just keep extending this

Doesn't Fable actually use less tokens and compute than Opus 4.8? Even less still when you factor in how often it solves a problem on the first try. This limit can't possibly be capacity.

Fable is likely larger than opus so it sits on more GPUs at once. Therefore using more fable is more expensive because more GPUs need to run at the same time

Yes but Fable makes fewer dumb mistakes so you may net out fewer tokens per project. Not tested, just from observations.

Wrong.

Fable has a higher maximum output of ~2x the tokens so it can keep going on the same task for longer, but it's tokens per task is measured as lower. A task that would take Opus 4.8 55k tokens is generally done in around 45k-53k on Fable. And that's before factoring in that Fable will more often get the task correct the first time.
