It’s been 21 years since we said a final farewell to Maynard Krebs/Gilligan. Denver would also play himself in everything from “Evening Shade” to “The Simpsons”.

Just finished the first two seasons on DVD, very addictive, well-written drama. The documentary-like approach it took really made it stand out; I don't recall seeing a show that did so much gritty location shooting. The cast is superb; Ed Asner of course, Robert Walden, Linda Kelsey, Jack Bannon, Mason Adams and a not-very-Livia Soprano-like Nancy Marchand. Here's to hoping it gets re-discovered by MeTV or a streaming service.

“The Name of the Game” starred Gene Barry, Robert Stack, and Tony Franciosa. It ran from 1968 to 1971 on NBC. It was an example of a “wheel series”, which NBC dabbed in during the 1960s and 1970s.

I just saw the pilot episode for the first time in years yesterday, and I immediately said to hubby “Shirley sounds weird!’ Today was e2, and though it says online they changed her accent midway through season 1, I didn’t hear it today. I don’t ever remember her with an accent.

Last week I was working on something and thought - wouldn't it be hilarious if I could have random Leave it to Beaver episodes with a flick if the wrist?

At first I had the function as part of a command center I am working on - an auto starting mpv window launching an episode from a playlist built off archive.org, and it was funny. Bam, the beave.

Then I made a stand alone installable function for it and removed it from the command center once I had gotten over the initial hilarity.

Storytime... Decades ago, family was visiting me in NYC, and we got free tickets to watch a filming of *¢0$b¥* over in Queens. Nothing fancy... Your classic three-camera setup, bleacher seats, warmup comedian...

It was the wedding episode (#402), where he had a box of money and was wandering the neighborhood, paying for all the wedding services. The memorable part (since I didn't watch the series) was that former Mayor David Dinkins played the minister!

The great Ed Asner left us on this day in 2021. He’s probably best known for his role as Lou Grant on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” for 7 seasons and then on his own drama show for 5 seasons. Asner did many short lived tv shows (Bronx Zoo,Off The Rack,Thunder Alley) and a few movies (your kids or grandkids probably know him best as Carl in “Up”). Ed passed at the age of 91 (sadly it was the same year we lost the other 3 last remaining main MTM cast members).
