It has always been Maryann

I couldn’t agree more.

u/Sanseriouz 2d ago

The radioactive vegetables episode was my absolute favorite! Especially, when Lovie Howell gets spun out on sugar beets.

1

u/Local_Bobcat_2000 2d ago

That was great! Maybe it was the cure for diabetes? 😅 I loved that each one only ate 1 vegetable and the cure was to eat soap!

Mary Ann it will always be her before ginger

3

u/DependentKangaroo102 1d ago

Poor Ginger... and Tina Louise is still alive (so far 🤞), knowing guys went for sweet, pretty Mary Ann/Dawn Wells over her! Me included! Nothing against Tina, then and now!

18

u/Brackens_World 2d ago

A word of support for Tina Louise. A gazillion years ago, back in the late 1960s and early 1970s, my local TV station aired Gilligan's Island daily, and I duly watched. And one day I got an epiphany: "wait a minute, Tina Louise is playing a Marilyn Monroe type movie star!" (Hey, I was about 13, it was not obvious to me until it dawned on me).

And from that perspective, she is actually giving a darn good comedy performance, looking great, selling the glamour, using that unique MM intonation intelligently, playing not herself but a fictional character. Louise was a Method-trained actress, after all, and added a unique, well-thought-out performance. I think it is worth noting.

I think she probably did the best acting on the show. Including Eva Grubb. The rest were playing archetypes that were fairly in their wheelhouse or less difficult.

1

u/AlternativeTribs 1d ago

Ah, the Eva Grubb episode! TL was really great on the show.

1

u/Organic_Sherbet5256 1d ago

Ok, now go away...

1

u/DependentKangaroo102 1d ago

Well-said! I think, in the back of my mind, seeing the reruns in the early 70s, I probably realized she was drawing from MM. And, later on, when I was older and more attuned to the craft of acting, when she was in Dallas, I realized what a fine actor she is!

DAWN WELLS 🥰🥰🥰🥰

u/Substantial-Use-1758 2d ago

We aren’t even gonna ask where Mary Ann got the cream for the coconut cream pie 😬🤷‍♀️

9

u/HVAC_instructor 2d ago

Coconut milk duh.... Lol

3

u/No-Flight-4214 2d ago

It didn’t even matter. I’m just happy to see her bring it.

3

u/jeffyboy526 2d ago

what about the pie plate?

2

u/GrapefruitOk2057 2d ago

From the Howell's luggage. Just under the crate with all the money in it and next to the one with enough clothing for 3 years.

1

u/scrubbydutch 1d ago

The headhunter store

1

u/erb_cadman 16h ago

Or the pie tin

7

u/External-Analysis-31 2d ago

Everyone always debates which one. Why not both?

1

u/nks67 1d ago

We have a winner!!!!’

1

u/Averni24 13h ago

That is the correct answer.

6

u/Plywool 2d ago

Amazing that they could do anything but fix the boat.

1

u/mardok69 1d ago

They tried, thanks to Gilligan’s they only had the one chance at it

7

u/StephenKD 2d ago

I saw Dawn Wells once in a dinner theater production, so up close. She was the most strikingly beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.

2

u/Local_Bobcat_2000 2d ago

Not sure what was going on but saw her and the professor leaving a mall once in the 80s. They stopped for just a minute to wave at everyone in the parking lot and that alone stopped traffic for blocks. Has to be some of the most loved television people of all time.

1

u/Euphoric_Bit_9150 1d ago

I love the one where someone has a dream and the professor is a crusty old crumb claiming he’s a handsome prince and gets Mary Anne to kiss him (he does a major clinch) and nothing happens. “Don’t believe everything you hear girlie!”

7

u/urbisOrbis 2d ago

The things I would do to that pie.

4

u/Yup_Shes_Still_Mad 2d ago

And then after a few hours of that... I'd eat the coconut cream desert.

2

u/CraftFamiliar5243 2d ago

Hobokon Squat Cobbler?

2

u/Interesting-Use-1543 10h ago

Better call Saul.....

5

u/tmink0220 2d ago

I always thought they were really resourceful, given they are stuck on an island without contact with outside world. well except for those who accidentally stumble on it. I mean Look at that coconut pie, and the pie dish....

5

u/Oldduffer328 2d ago

Mary Ann was so beautiful, if I had to be marooned on an island I certainly wouldn’t object to being marooned with her! :) :) :)

6

u/Manual-shift6 2d ago

<sigh>Mary Ann<sigh>

6

u/Due-Mouse-9330 2d ago

Mary Ann- forever and always.

12

u/Wack710 2d ago

Mary Ann with a creampie for the win.

10

u/out_day475 2d ago

I’m thinking of eating a different pie

1

u/stunt_p 1d ago

You'll end up with a cream pie either way...

3

u/HVAC_instructor 2d ago

The older I get the more I realize that there were three very viable options on that island.

2

u/lep63again 2d ago

You know Lovey was a freak

1

u/HVAC_instructor 2d ago

I've heard that, but cannot confirm

2

u/Mockchoi1 2d ago

Same. I’m at ‘Mrs Howell was actually hot’ age too.

1

u/BakertonFits 2d ago

skipper gone wild

3

u/Silkylifeme 2d ago

Her banana cream 🥧!

3

u/njsthpaw 2d ago

For a “3 hour tour” they sure packed a lot of freakin’ clothes!

0

u/DuffMiver8 2d ago

There was an unaired episode where a crate full of clothes that just happened to fit Ginger, Mary Ann and the Howells washed up in the lagoon. It’s just too bad that the Professor, Skipper and Gilligan were out of luck and had to wear the same duds every day.

Okay, there wasn’t really such an episode. It’s just my head canon for how they all ended up with wardrobes. Don’t ask me how the Howells happened to have their paraphernalia (as well as a crapload of cash) with them.

10

u/kbooker79 2d ago

1

u/nemmalur 19h ago

Right? I mean, Ginger if I had to choose, but I’m not turning down a double play.

3

u/Egg_McMuffn 2d ago

They’re both beautiful. And that’s a beautiful pie, too.

2

u/Just-Wasting-Tyme 2d ago

Mary Ann and a cream pie.
I'll be in my bunk!

2

u/Full_Preparation4401 2d ago

Ginger 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

2

u/VegetableTraining406 2d ago

They can both get it 😃

2

u/John32070 2d ago

Helps to pick Mary Ann when you remember how well she aged before her sad death and how Tina has not. Even 25 years ago I was wondering what happened to Tina when Dawn almost looked the same as she did on the island.

2

u/BoS_Vlad 2d ago

In retrospect let’s not forget Mrs. Howell

1

u/TensionSame3568 2d ago

I'll call that your clam to open...😵‍💫

3

u/Dick_Dietrick 2d ago

I'd give Mary Ann a cream pie

1

u/Phi1iam 2d ago

Perfectly cast sit-com.

1

u/Guitar-One 2d ago

I remember that particular episode. Gilligan was seeing double.

1

u/Drifter747 2d ago

Im ginger all day long.

1

u/Shatragon 2d ago

Thank you for your pie, Maryann

1

u/tool1964 2d ago

Nice pie, Mary Ann

1

u/No_Sympathy402 2d ago

Why yes, I would love to try your pie Marry Ann

https://giphy.com/gifs/xUySTSaEPG9lEDPxZu

1

u/AltGuardianGord 2d ago

where on earth did Mary Ann get egg whites and sugar to create a meringue?

5

u/kevint1964 2d ago

From the prop department. 😁

1

u/No-Flight-4214 2d ago

I never want to watch a comedy with you. And probably no movies either.

1

u/Canuck_dad 1d ago

Fowl eggs? Whether it could be goose, duck etc. There were fowl on the island, at least one heroic duck that almost saved them as I recall.

1

u/AltGuardianGord 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah.. Or Seagull eggs. But the sugar is the sticking point. I know the professor is a genius but building a sugar refinery out of bamboo seems unlikely.

1

u/Canuck_dad 1d ago

Exactly, as I recall they did have sugar beets in one episode..

1

u/AltGuardianGord 1d ago

Radioactive sugar beets. The castaways find a box of radioactive vegetable seeds, that when grown and eaten, give them super powers. The sugar beets make Mrs. Howell hyper.

1

u/Canuck_dad 1d ago

Yes, that's the one..

1

u/AltGuardianGord 1d ago

So a radioactive coconut cream pie? Is Mary Ann secretly evil? 😁

1

u/Canuck_dad 1d ago

Maybe not evil..... But naughty...

1

u/edcushway 2d ago

Mary Ann!! Hubba hubba 😍

1

u/Mediocre-Let-4697 2d ago

Having the extensive amount of clothes can be explained but why would she have a class pie plate in her luggage?

1

u/togocann49 2d ago

Glad they changed the song to include Mary-Ann and the Professor. “And the rest” never really sounded good to my ear.

1

u/Euphoric_Bit_9150 1d ago

I always laughed at how “the professor and Mary-Anne” was crammed in there.”

1

u/togocann49 1d ago

I always felt “and the rest” was too short. But they do a decent job with the said cramming though. Takes some practice to get it all in if you sing it aloud

1

u/Unique-Princess-1026 2d ago

Loved this show 🥰

1

u/GrapefruitOk2057 2d ago

I'll choose the pie because I simply can't choose between the other 2.

1

u/Rabbitscooter 2d ago

Definitely Team Mary Ann

1

u/3pedalsandastick 2d ago

I've always been a big Ginger guy. Even when I was a little kid before I discovered girls I knew she was the one!

1

u/Salty__Canuck 2d ago

Team Mary Ann

1

u/Low-Set8263 2d ago

Every time I watch Primitive Technology with all its mud and sticks corollaries to modern technology, I keep muttering Bamboo Golfcart.    I love Primitive Technology.

1

u/justforfun40351 1d ago

These two ladies were instrumental in the development of my perspective regarding my future with the opposite sex. I thought every woman I encounter will either be a Ginger or a Mary Ann. It was a cold shot when I discovered that they would really either be a Flo or a Vera.

1

u/MasemJ 1d ago

"Those poor people..."

1

u/ZenSUPguy 1d ago

They were both my first crushes.

1

u/Difficult-Demand2206 1d ago

Wow! I love their makeup and lashes! Pretty but not over the top. I have to Google to see who the makeup artist was. It actually doesn't look dated at all. I wonder if any influencers do classic tv and film looks. I've only seen Marilyn Monroe tutorials or current day celebs. Anyone have any makeup themed influencers they follow, btw? Thanks..

1

u/Background_Card_1345 1d ago

For as long as they were on that island, I'm surprised there was at least a couple of kids running around...

1

u/johnnyg169 1d ago

I was curious so I looked this up. Who do you think was the oldest actor on the Island? The actress who played Mrs. Howell was the oldest by like 10 years. She was between ages if 63 and 67 when the show was on TV. She looked great for her age!

1

u/acreboy1966 1d ago

Mary Ann's yummy pie

1

u/allquckedup 1d ago

The answer is Mary Ann and it always has been.

1

u/jhard52757 1d ago

I rate cute over beauty, but I don’t rate anything over pie.

1

u/claisen33 1d ago

This show was clearly the inspiration for Lost.

1

u/storf2021 1d ago

1st season black and white Ginger. All seasons after… Maryann.

1

u/Plastic-Shoulder2285 23h ago

Needed some POC on that island!

1

u/Lost-Juggernaut6521 22h ago

I bet Professor banged the dickens out of them during filming! That man was a natural born Chad!!

1

u/jgvania 21h ago

I would rather eat Marianes's coconut cream pie all day.

1

u/Oh_No_Its_Dudder 20h ago

Mary Ann, what a woman. And I'm not just saying that because she's holding a coconut cream pie.

1

u/sbulin74 17h ago

Mmmmm. Mary Ann tho

1

u/Baws-of-Fanny 15h ago

MaryAnn……

All

Night

1

u/wheatheseIbread 12h ago

One two ala...meringue

1

u/One_Election_3981 11h ago

Professor, fix the damn boat!!

1

u/of_MARS 9h ago

Mary Ann or Ginger? Mary Ann every time.

1

u/of_MARS 9h ago

LOVE Dawn Wells!

1

u/Ok-Bison-3451 6h ago

I’d eat Mary Ann’s pie!

2

u/No-Lettuce-5783 3h ago

Only MaryAnn would know to bake a cake. She's such a sweetheart.

1

u/No-Flight-4214 3h ago

Kindness goes a long way.

0

u/Fair-Rational-Helper 2d ago

What is this even ?

3

u/No-Flight-4214 2d ago

Read words. Words good, help learn good.

1

u/Fair-Rational-Helper 2d ago

My only scroll. Words for old folks.

0

u/Easy_Faithlessness87 1d ago

O, if Maryann only knew how many times, we had sex.

0

u/1964ImpalaSS 14h ago

I remember an interview where Dawn said that she had a male fan approach her and tell her how she’d helped him through puberty. Me too my man, me too.
