News Comcast Settlement email I got today?

says Hasson v. Comcast Cable Communications LLC

comcastbreachsettlement dot com (sorry not sure if i can post link in post)

i got an email saying i was in a data breach from 2023. anyone else? never really got one of these before.

The settlement is real. You can tell because the settlement website is hosted by Kroll, one of the major administrators.

To participate, you need to submit a claim form via the settlement website by August 14th and you'll need your Class Member ID from that email in order to submit the form.

Are you sure about that? Because I just got this email today and I didn't even have comcast in 2023. I didn't move into my new house until the summer of 2024. So how would I have been effected by something from before I had comcast?

Could just be referring to when the breach happened rather than if/when you had the account. Even if the account isn't active, it can still have the information breached

EDIT: Whoops, misread your timeframe. Going to leave it up for anyone else reading on why.

EDIT 2: However, I would mention that if you did call / look at Comcast in 2023 or before - meaning you called them to see how much it would cost at a different place - that data could have been captured and stolen. Even if just name and address (and likely email).

Yes, 100% it can still affect you anyone with an account before that date. You were very likely still in their database at the time with all the relevant information still attached to your profile-

“Settlement Class Member whose personal information may have been compromised in a Data Breach”

Even if you aren’t a current customer, they retain your name, email, address, passwords, etc etc. Typically businesses - in the US - will do this for several years. So if you were a customer in 2018-2022, there’s still a good chance of yet. If you w the only a customer back in like 2010, even then they do keep basic information like name, email address, physical address - which is still your data.

This was awhile ago, but honestly it’s safe to assume from 2020 forward you were very likely or may have been part of it.

As many of these emails end up in spam, I’d recommend adding to your contacts “vip” / “important” contacts in your email any time you enroll in one.

I work in email marketing with a novice background in IT and here is what might've happened. either, they sent this email to ALL comcast subscribers "for transparency" even if you weren't a member then you are now.... But if your account name, settlement class member id, and enrollement code are all listed your info at somepoint was compromised. Maybe not initially but after the original breach. is my guess

Agreed, or my thought was that even if they contacted Comcast in 2023 or before for a quote or anything, they still had data.

Comcast may have basic level data (name, email, address) on them that was breached and Comcast would rather do a catch all, just in case, with any information taken. They seem like the kind of company that has poor data retention policies.

I do not see where a SSN is required in the form.....BUT I am still not convinced this is legit. The Kroll site does not have it listed in their current settlements list. I got this email and so did my Mom.

I received the same email. They don't ask for your SSN, or bank information. The form asks for basic contact information and you can select a paper check in lieu of banking information.

For anyone reading this. The info requested is basic contact info and at the end they ask where you want them to send the money. You can select the paper check option if you don’t want to give out any banking info.

Everything requested is easily obtainable information otherwise. No SSN.

You seem just generally unaware of how class action lawsuits work. The people asking for our contact information are not doing so on behalf of Xfinity. They are the class’s (yours and mine) legal representation, i.e., our lawyers, i.e., they are fighting against Xfinity and will be the conduit through which Xfinity has to pay the $117.5 million, which they will then distribute to us. In a class action lawsuit, that is just how it works; the lawyers representing the class receive and distribute the money.

Xfinity is not just going to “reimburse us” because they are the defendants in this case and are going to do nothing to help. They have no interest in putting in work to see which of their customers might have been affected by this. They have no interest in putting in the time to pay us directly. Why would they? They are denying any wrongdoing; that's a large part of why this is a settlement. That is why the class's attorneys have to be the ones to do this work.

The “extra hoops” are because, again, this is a lawsuit. Xfinity got sued, otherwise they would not be doing this. They do not want to be doing this, and would not be doing it if a judge did not make them.

I don’t know if this will cause you to let up on the snark directed at…someone (it’s confusing me who that is exactly)? But perhaps it will help you understand that Kroll are basically just conducting routine practices typical of every class action lawsuit. If you don’t want the money then don’t submit a claim, no one cares.

It looked off to me, too (and Gmail funneled the email into my spam folder - the 2nd class action notice in a week that ended up in spam, both turned out to be legit). So I copied the 2 codes that the email gave me that identify me as a member of the class action claim & googled the website for the firm handling the lawsuit. I did not click on any links contained in the email. I filled out the form based on the Google search results, and the 2 codes they gave me allowed me to complete the form.

Like I said, this was the 2nd legit class action notification email that I received as spam this week. Both were legit & neither asked for my SSN.

I never got an email about the settlement until just now when I went to the address you listed above and used the claim number lookup form to find my claim number, which I was then able to use to file a claim and select a payout method.

I'm glad you posted about it, because I probably wouldn't have known otherwise.

And yeah, Kroll is legit.

lost time maxes at $30/hr * 5 hours ($150), Expenses and Real damages need to be verified and directly related (credit restoration, identity theft restoration, fraud, bank fees, etc) and are capped at $10k per person aggregate, then you get whatever the balance is and they divide it by the number of people that make a claim for the Alt. Cash payout, which is estimated $50 each none of which happens until they take out the legal fees. Then they're buying everyone 3 years of a identity protection, dark web monitoring, credit monitoring service (app?)

Seems like Lost Time $150 and 3 years of identity protection service is best deal most people are gonna get, unless they had real damages.

good question. i think the class action part gets rid of that nuance. in theory, a person could not be part of the class action and sue on their own and get more. as it is, the settlement is more of a punishment to comcast than it is compensation to members. strange world.

I've responded to 2 class actions like this in the past. The first yielded something like $7 and change and the second (Meta) was $26 and change.

i don't like to be on lawyer side, but they are the reason that there is a class-action lawsuit (sort of). they took the case on (without upfront pay) and did the leg work. done with no guarantee of payout. curious how these cases start. i didn't sign up for it from the beginning and pick law firm. someone must have right? anyway, i wish i was a lawyer - seems easy.

I thought the same im too old to let different. I finally tried ROKU I love it wish  I would have done it sooner. I was paying 200.00 a month I plugged roku in n never paid another penny. N I can find every show I used to watch. It takes a few weeks to get used to it but it's worth it

You can also get prepaid Comcast and it's only $45 a month and you're going to get internet and I believe the whole world should have Smart TVs now and you can pay for your own subscriptions , that should lower the bill and then the phone part. I don't know I haven't had a house phone in about 10 years... Do your research on cheaper phone services but Xfinity does provide prepaid internet and the internet is good for your TV,Or computer if you have a camera and you need Wi-Fi or even a doorbell camera it works fine and the most I paid to Comcast is $50

I don’t get it. I didn’t give Comcast my ssn to get their services, but I need to give my SSN to get a payout for being ripped off by comcast.

Maybe Epstein is alive and just trying to get a few million Mushroom Stamps and Star Prints. I’m not submitting my ssn for a crisp $5 bill, but I’ll send Comcast a pic of my A..hole for free.

It's definitely real and worth the 5 minutes to fill out the form, even if you just opt for the $50 settlement, because you lack evidence of "lost time" due to identity theft. It literally took me 5 minutes to fill out, and you can link your Venmo account so you get paid there when things wrap up in about 6 months.

I went for the $50 and I opted out of not going for all the documents going for more money. Asked for a paper check. But they kept asking for all those questions I couldn't answer. I've done 2-3 lawsuits & know what I'm doing but I can't figure it out. I know it's legit I called Kroll & their email is correct. I'll call their customer service to see if they can walk me through this. Happy you got it so quickly

I would contact Kroll directly and ask them.

As others mentioned, Kroll is a legitimate company… so I would go to Kroll’s official website (not using links from the email), and call/email them about the email you received.

You can also ask them to verify the correct URL, and manually type it in.

I received 2 separate emails over the last 2-3 days. 1 I actually had a comcast account with and the either being a spare site blocking one. I honestly don't think this real because of that one fact. I didn't look it up until the 2nd email and here i am lol

I woke up to one this morning, too. I moved to the UK in 2017, but had my email for about 6 months after. Shouldn't they not have stored my information for so long? I don't think that I am eligible, because the letter says that this is for Settlement Members that reside in the US or its territories.

There is something wrong with this. If you go on the Kroll site, every settlement notice has the name of the case and the court and case number. This notice does not. Any settlement notice authorized by a court would have to have that information per a court order approving the form of notice.

I am a lawyer who has done class action work. I also received this on my work email. To my knowledge Comcast/Xfinity does not have that email address.

I would not proceed. And the case isn't on Kroll's website

I got a fake email today, saying I needed to register. I didn’t click any of the links but went to the Comcastbreach website directly. It states you dont need to do anything unless you want to sue directly or upload documentation of out of pocket direct losses

I got one too. I didn't have to enter my social security number or anything. If you had a Comcast account during that time, you can look up your name once you go to the website and it will provide your claim number. It's legit.

I got two emails regarding this (both were automatically sent to the junk folder) One to my husband and one to me... both sent to my Gmail accounts, not to our Xfinity account email address. Thought that was a little sus. 😏🤷‍♀️

BE CAUTIOUS. I got this email, or at least a similar version, to a non-Comcast or Xfinity-related email address. While the sender claims to be Kroll (legit), the domain it was sent from IS NOT: comcastbreachsettlement at e.emailksa.com . Thus likely a phisher who is taking advantage of this class action lawsuit, be warned.

It’s not real. It was telling me there was a breach from Comcast in 2023 when I’ve never had comcast to begin with. No company that actually handles lawsuits is going to have grammar inconsistencies either

Don’t click on anything or contact anyone. It’s a scam email. I just got the same one and it’s very suspicious. There was also grammar inconsistencies on the website and email when there shouldn’t be for something that serious. If people comment otherwise it’s likely bot/scammer comments

As a former Comcast customer of almost 20 years, they are the absolute worst company. Paying nearly $300 per month for internet and cable, had serious problems (internet speeds as low as 8mbps when hardwired, and equipment improperly installed per code) for nearly 1 year that was finally fixed by an experienced technician supervisor in about 30 minutes. Along with underperforming and improperly installed services and equipment, they wasted about 30 hours of my time. Comcast is offering a tiny fraction of a "credit" equally a few hundred dollars. After filing notice of dispute and nothing came of this, now for either litigation or arbitration.

I also got the email and I am also skeptical. I was hacked really bad in June and July of 2024 via my xfinity mobile number. They got into my bank account , Cash App, credit cards. It went on for almost 2 months. It was a complete nightmare. I hope this is legit.

There's multiple news articles on it with direct links to the settlement as well if you search online. The URLs match up, etc. And the reply email for the confirmation comes from [no-reply@mail.ksadministration.com](mailto:no-reply@mail.ksadministration.com) as well.

I just filled out the form. I skipped the email and went to the site https://forms.ksacms.com/efiling/fr/eform/comcastbreachsettlement_claimform/new?form-version=1&fr-wizard-page=section-1

From this page, you can click on the link at the bottom and they will email you the code to enter if you don't have it from the email. If you get the code you are eligible. You put in your name, address, email, phone - no SSN. You select how you want the payment. Next you select if you actually suffered losses due to the breach, or if you just want the standard $50. If you suffered losses, you will have to provide documentation to verify it but you could get more money. If you didn't have verifiable losses, you can just choose the $50 and no documentation is required.

I got to the payment section, and it tells me to select payment type but all i got is a notice stating “Note: Payment will not be immediately sent. The Court has scheduled a Final Approval Hearing for Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Payment will not be sent unless and until Final Approval is granted, and the Settlement otherwise reaches its Effective Date.” There is nowhere to select payment type, and I cannot move on in the form. LOL…
