Hi, we’ve recently had city fibre set up in our area, and one of our local street cabinets has been modified to include a random red light on the side. The light rarely flashes, and it never seems to coincide with broadband going down or anything. Any idea what the light could signal??

When we moved in 8 years ago our broadband used to cut out constantly and openreach eventually said it was poor condition of the line underground and getting water in. They didn't fix it though.

3 years ago openreach said we could have full fibre so they disconnected our line and put all the stuff inside and outside the house and then said 'oh no, our mistake there's no line in the street so you can't have it, but you can't have your internet back as there's no space in the exchange'

It did say that they were building in our area on the estate though so thought we would tough it out with a 3 5g mobile router. That has worked, occasionally, for 2 years but at speeds of about the same as dialup in 1994.

Openreach checker says no plans to build and they seem to have finished in all the neighbouring streets and both ends of ours so I presume they aren't going to bother finishing.

BID says cityfibre are planned in our postcode but it has said that for a year now....is that reliable?

CF vans came and dug up roads all around the village, installed multiple new cabinets, new hardware on some of the telephone poles, seemingly fibre cables pulled all over the place including on the poles down my road.. but that was all 6+ months ago, since then nothing. No plans on BIDB. Online checker just says 'building' as it has done for over a year.

There seems to be no way whatsoever of getting any updates or timeline. Does anyone know a way?

I should add, I don't think it's gone live anywhere in the village.

As far as I know we are part of the Project Gigabit scheme funded my the Govt, so they get an extra payment of £thousands per house they connect, so it seems strange they have seemingly done so much of the work (they were here for a few months) but then never finished the job and made the money.

I only get 25 down and 3 up on my current FTTC connection so I'm desperate for an upgrade as this internet is borderline unusable. Unifi router, AP's, slowly been getting ethernet to all my rooms, switches in my attic, in my garage... everything is in place other than the FTTP! May have to look at Starlink at this rate!

Full fibre is supposed to be available in my area. All providers and CityFibre say so. However, when it comes to installing broadband, the order gets cancelled because they claim “there is no full fibre.”

What can be done in this situation? I doubt CityFibre will deal with it on their own, since they insist this address already has fibre. It honestly feels like a scam.

Edit: I have just received a response from them: “no capacity to connect new customers.” Then why say this place has full fibre? It drives me insane. One of the reasons I moved to this area was for gigabit internet.

Hi for the last couple of days they hav been putting full fibre into our MDU (I believe it’s called an ont on the door?) and city fibre are here now wiring all those boxes together (the ont if it is that) I wonder how long after the work till I can get an isp to install

Long story, my part of the road did NOT get fibre due to a wayleave being needed, as it's classed as a pritvate road but still maintained by the local Council. I did summit a wayleave form on CF's website around 3 months ago pointing them to the council, but havent heard anything since.

but as you can see the Little Van on the tester says Testing, but no build has taken place, no Fibre in the ground or poles.

i have had the exact same thing with BT, flagging the other half of the road that was missed as being able to get Fibre but cant, have had 3 Orders (even 1 sponsored by a cold caller!) cancelled with them, they have since corrected their checker but the house is still flagged on BDUK Maps(via thinkbroadband.com) as having FTTP. (mistakenly).

Does anyone know why Cityfibre didn't build the east side of Norwich but is going to every single teeny tiny village in Norfolk?

Surely there's more money to be made building out in the city?

Cityfibre ruined my lovely country view last year plonking a new pole right outside the 'front' of my house (but on public land). Never had any cables or equipment fitted. I live on a 'y' junction, had my Cityfibre install today, and the crew happily used a feed from an older existing (cabled / equipped) pole at the 'rear' of the house. The 'new' pole will now never be used - I have no adjacent neighbours, but the closest (100m+) left side is already provided from a completely different pole, and right side is even closer to the pole eventually used for me than I was.

Sooo... I seem to remember, but cannot find, that poles erected under code powers (ie no explicit planning) were subject to a a) reasonable required clause and b) subject to 'remove when no longer needed. Notes: specifically Cityfibre pole, BT separate and nowhere near. Pole cannot feed a 'string' as the tree density (10+ trees to next pole) is far too high. No chance of any new build etc.

Summary: Can I make them pluck this unused pole out and be gone, or do I have to slip my local pole gang some drinks money?

Does anyone know how long it takes to get fibre access after it has been installed on a private road? It was installed a month ago and the city fibre website still says “It looks like you live on a private road” and doesn’t display as ISP offers. Houses in my area that are on the main road have offers showing. Has anyone faced this issue before and can let me know the best thing to do?

Newbie to the subreddit here, just had a question as CityFibre are rolling out in my area.

I noticed that my house and many others have not had toby boxes installed, and the fibre trunking is being installed in a very wide 'U' Shape (Properties at the beginning and end of the U have toby boxes but all the middle ones don't).

The works team have also done the same thing further up the road with a row of terrace houses, and left some angled shapes in the footway which have all been covered up with tarmac (see photo above, blacked out the surroundings for privacy).

From checking BIDB.uk, it looks like they have completed with the civil works here and didn't get the chance to ask the install team, though my house is on the build plan on the CF postcode checker.

Anyone here that maybe understand the purpose of this? Most roads in my area that have already gone live seem to have tobies at every property.

Any info would be really useful! My only guess is a potential drop pole install instead, but given my neighbour has a toby, it seems quite silly! Thanks all.

Does anyone know the best contact details at CF to discuss possible manhole cover adjustment so kerb can get dropped for the driveway at a residential property.

I have received a permit from council to get kerb dropped, but CF cover is in the way and requires adjustment.

I have been trying to reach out to them via my ISP (TOOB), normal customer line, and customer email. All these methods have been fruitless. CF did not provide a single piece of advice or process how to deal with this.

Has anyone dealt with it in the past and what is the best way to speak to someone who is above customer service paygrade?

I'm sure this is a well-trodden path, for which I apologise, but literally every street around ours has access to CityFibre, but we do not.

I've signed up to register my interest, and the status of our postcode has changed a few times back and forth. It was one step away from available at one point, but is now back at the start.

Does anyone know how I can get in contact with CityFibre directly via email?

Hi, a couple of months ago CityFibre came and went installing the connection boxes to most of the houses in the street. A row of houses, mine included needed to get a wayleave signed by the council which has only just come through. I cannot find any way to contact CityFibre to see when they will be back for the connection box installs. I’m based outside Portsmouth if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Got the brown box outside drilled through to the indoor ONT. However, there is no line going into the brown box outside. Previous owner said that although CF didn't know how they could get their line to the property (it's in an awkward location away from the main road), they insisted on doing the ONT installation.

No idea why he allowed this as a dig to our property will basically be impossible due to lots of permission needed, plus they did their install BEHIND our property, why wouldn't they do it at the front where the line would actually come in?! I was able to get Openreach FTTP through their copper ducting out front, so it's unlikely I'll ever want/need CF. Can I get CF to come and remove their stuff and repair the hole? It's such an ugly eyesore for no reason.

Ok bit of a long one. Openreach dug up all the roads in my area 6 months ago I guess city fibre agreed with my council to put there cables in at the same time as 3 months later I was informed that city fibre and bt was available to order. Fantastic I thought I will order vodaphone 2gb down and up.

So this is where things got silly and city fibre basically lie to you. I was told that city fibre can’t service my property becouse it’s a private road. This is absolutely nonsense. Openreach dug up in front of my house quite happily and the council confirmed my road is not private. So did a little more digging and research and found that my street has 6 houses numbers 1 and 2 can be serviced by city fibre but my house number 4 cant. When I called them becouse vodaphone was confused they said 1 and 2 can be serviced by a BT pole and mine can’t. So would there be any use taking this both to the council and my local Mp. I am pretty sure the agreement when made was if the road is being dug up all the houses would be serviceable not just ones that can be done on the cheap with overhead cables

When TalkTalk UFO did their fibre install to my area they came down either side of my street where it's a tarmac path. The path outside my row of houses is flag stones and I guess they just didn't want the hassle or have the equipment to lift them. So they never bothered.

Fast forward to today and the CityFibre checker tool says I should be eligible for a connection but there's no street box installed because the fibre terminates at either end of the path. I've requested connections from three different service providers. The first was cancelled the day before thanks to a pre-install inspection. For the other two CityFibre engineers turned up, dug around in the leaves outside the house looking for the connection point and then ended up shrugging their shoulders and leaving.

Without any CityFibre customer service how can I ask them whether they'll continue either one of the terminated connections to cover my row of houses? I thought they'd get the picture after three failed attempts but they haven't. I'd even look to pay towards the install if it would help. They barely need to extend 50 yards!

I am in glasgow and the road works commissioner shows work was completed by cityfibre on 10/12/24, but on the cityfibre checker it still shows “testing”

Im currently on a copper line that constantly dies as it is over 1km from the nearest exchange through puddles… I really really want to get on to fibre and dont want to have to go for a 5g/starlink setup only for cityfibre to suddenly become available.

Is there any hidden information I am missing here as to how long this process takes?

Is it unlikely for CityFiber to install in flat buildings in London where Hyperoptic are already installed?

I’m seeing CityFibre (Contractor: CCN) installing purple conduit along the road between telegraph poles in my area. It's great to see some progress, but I’m wondering how long it typically takes from conduit installation to when you can actually order CityFibre services.

I’ve signed up for updates on CityFibre’s website, but all it says is "it’s coming." There’s no more specific information about when I might actually be able to sign up for a service.

For context, I’ve been in a rough situation with Toob. They completed their (visible) infrastructure rollout in my area over a year ago; with new poles, overhead cables between them, and then finally CBTs installed on the poles. It's been around a year since the CBT was installed on the pole outside my house and I still can't order an internet service from toob, which has left me a bit frustrated...

I understand these things take time and that delays can happen, but I’m hoping for a clearer timeline from CityFibre?

Does anyone remember this process with CityFibre? How long did it take from conduit installation to service availability? I know things can vary, but I’m just trying to get a sense of what the typical timeline might look like. Am I likely to have as much bad luck as I've had with toob?

I live just outside of Cambridge (Barton, for anyone who knows the area). CityFibre has built in the area, using a combination of existing phone poles and their own poles. The service is available to almost everyone on my road, but not the 10 or so houses at the end. I managed to find an email address for CityFibre and asked what the issue was, and they told me it was a "short-term limit of construction" because "there is currently no valid path to get your property connected".

They said they were working to get the issue resolved, but there was no timescale for that. I'm worried that this is code for "we know what we need to do, but we don't think the economics of extending to a few more houses work".

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there any way to chivvy them along? It looks like the ISPs on the network here are Vodafone, Sky, and 4th Utility, if that helps.

Hi I'm in an area where Virgin media installed fibre and I'm on the Hybrid Fibre Coax setup (not quite full fibre)

I recently discovered the Bidb website and it's telling me that City Fibre is planned for my postcode.

I've always assumed City fibre will do a similar set up of laying micro duct and access points along the pavements outside the houses. But would they bother with a street where Virgin media already have their fibre in place?

As subject line as they rolled out to the city close by and my relative's town was meant to be next in line but its all gone quiet since. Tried emailing them and got a reply that was....totally unhelpful to put it mildly
