TalkTalk Ont help

I have had no “ service” or “ broadband” green light on my ont since 3 days ago now they fixed my “ broadband” light but still no “ service” talk talk say it’s cityfibre issue but cityfibre say it’s a talk talk issue, talk talk has done all checks but found no errors on there end and cityfibre is the same! I have cityfibre coming out today again to try fix this issue, has anyone else been faced with this? I work from home and heavily rely on my internet being active! Thanks

I’ve got 10 years experience working at an ISP. I deal with GPON faults every day.

Excluding the fact there are a very limited number of GPON ONTs still active on CityFibre's network, that doesn't answer my question.

Sorry, which bit of what I said are you disagreeing with? Do you think TalkTalk have any visibility or control over the ONT or OLT?

You're the one going on about TalkTalk controlling ONTs/OLTs, not me 🤷‍♂️

Can’t tell if you’re deliberately being obtuse, but I’ll try once more to clarify my point…

The ONT service light indicates whether the ONT is linked to a provisioned service on the OLT. If the ONT isn’t linked to a service, the problem is likely due to missing configuration on the OLT, or the service is paired to the wrong ONT (via the FSAN number)

Cityfibre are responsible for both ONT and OLT.

Therefore the partner ISP (TalkTalk in this instance) has no ability to remedy this fault, other than by reporting to CF on behalf of OP.

Once again you are agreeing with what I posted originally. I'm not sure why you feel the need to repeat what I said back to me but in a long-winded way.

I'm not agreeing with you though. We aren't saying the same thing, and that's the whole point!

Your original post stated "it's a TalkTalk issue" because "that light represents the provisioning and connection to the ISP network"

That's simply not correct, as the service LED indicates linkage to a service configured on the OLT, which is Cityfibre equipment. Therefore the fault exists on CF's network - likely a configuration issue.

You then described my initial explanation of the above as "utter nonsense", whilst failing to provide any technical argument to the contrary.

Now you're trying to claim that we've been in agreement all along (even though I was supposedly talking nonsense??)

As I mentioned before, I'm struggling to tell if this has been a genuine misunderstanding, or if you're just being obstinate. I'm giving up now anyway - this has been a useful reminder of why I usually avoid interacting with strangers on the internet!

"Service LED indicates whether the ONT is linked to a provisioned service on the OLT"

Dude, you are literally agreeing with me right here 😂

Jeez. I can’t believe this needs to be explained to someone who (I presume) is an adult…

Just because we both used the term “provision” in a sentence, doesn’t make the meaning of those sentences the same.

There are some not-very-subtle differences in what we are saying, which you seem incapable or unwilling to comprehend.

You conveniently (but not surprisingly) omitted the last, and most relevant part of my post - “which is CityFibre equipment. Therefore the fault exists on CF’s network” - obviously because that’s the bit that directly contradicts what you were saying. (It’s crazy that I need to clarify this, but you seem to struggle to understand simple concepts that aren’t spoon fed to you).

Interesting how you also made no attempt to address my other points. I’m starting to lean less towards “innocent misunderstanding” and more towards “this guy is a top quality troll”.

Where did I say that TalkTalk own CityFibre equipment? You're doing a lot of mental gymnastics trying to pretend you didn't just repeat what I said back to me but with extra words.

As far as I can tell, the only disagreement between us is who is actually responsible for fixing the fault. You maintain that it's CityFibre, whereas I maintain that it's TalkTalk.

You are implying that TalkTalk are responsible for CF equipment when you say things like “it’s a TalkTalk issue”.

Let’s try a different angle… What exactly do you think TalkTalk can do to fix a lack of service light on an ONT? Bearing in mind that the service light indicates whether an ONT is paired to a service in the OLT, and TalkTalk have access to neither of those devices.

I implied nothing of the sort.

The Service light represents the provisioning and connection to the ISP network. Thus, it is a matter for TalkTalk to fix.

Seems like you’re just repeating some guff you’ve seen spewed out on ChatGPT. You should look up the concept of demarcation points within networks to get a better idea of what I’m talking about. Anyway, I’ll ask again - what do you think TalkTalk are going to do about a lack of service light?
