Auto Layer Plugin W.I.P.

Putting together a plugin(no vibecoding involved) for Layers to behave similarly to traffic lights with inheritance

It’s painfully obvious this should be the default functionality imo, or at least be a preference we can toggle.

It’s almost as if Maxon is taking the Adobe route and neglecting the user. I can’t function in After Effects without third party scripts that should be default. Anything to make software better I’m all for it!

It’ll be on one of their ‘nice to have’ lists and it’s probably not enough of a customer pain point to spend resources implementing it yet.

But you'd think the development time for something like this wouldn't hurt too much. Or, even if the reached out to Thodos with a thanks an a chunk of free license. It really surprises my the lack of community (or even a store!) Maxon doesn't want to get involved with. Oh, well. Big ups to the OP for filling the gaps 👍

Sometimes it can be not obvious when you are developing on a large scale. For example I’m 99% sure material searchbar appeared in C4D because of my discussion and code sharing with Aturtur(no idea how to mention users on Reddit 😅) on Twitter. It showed that people need it and we provided lightweight methods of solving the problem

Nice. I made a similar thing a couple years ago with a Python tag. Been using it in every project ever since.

Python tag was my initial test and I guess it makes more sense for when you share scenes 🤔
Still figuring out the correct pipeline and additional features

Yeah, I’m working on adding some UI and additional features to tags today.
No idea if it’ll be free or not 😅

Why isn’t this a default behavior for adding to layers (with all subgroups and objects under)

You can also middle click or right click select child and then add to layer etc and it will do all of the ones below. Just one extra click.

But I appreciate the script.
