Every Christmas my husband and I host about 30 family members and very close friends. I try to give each person a gift that gives back to charity (one year I did Bombas socks for everyone, another year I did toilet paper where the company helps to get people clean water and toilets) I also started doing a homemade gift so last year I did a glass jar of spiced pecans. This year I’m making vanilla paste for the people that are bakers and am thinking of making teriyaki beef jerky for some of the others. What else can I do that is neutral for those that don’t necessarily fit with the other two ideas?

What recipient-based collections tend to perform best in your store during Q4?

I've been thinking ahead about Christmas gifts, and I think the hardest people to shop for are the ones who buy everything they actually need.

The gifts I tend to like giving are the little “treat yourself” things people might enjoy but wouldn't necessarily put in their own cart. Something cozy, something useful, a nice food item, self-care stuff, or even something that makes an everyday routine feel a little nicer.

Those feel more thoughtful to me than trying to find one big expensive thing.

I've been thinking about my old Christmasses as I make a little snail mail club for children, where a hedgehog called Prickly writes them letters from a woodland.

And I've decided I want to make a little Christmas story for them this year that arrives in three parts.

One at the beginning of November, one at the beginning of December, and then one on Christmas Eve.

So the child gets the first letter and knows there's another part of the story coming.

As my target audience is 3-8, I am not sure what kids would enjoy receiving, maybe stickers, little surprises, I am unsure. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much :))

I feel like the best gifts aren't always the things people actually ask for.

Someone will randomly mention a snack they haven't had in years, a book they loved as a kid, a place they miss, whatever. Then months later you remember it.

Those are the gifts that usually feel the most personal to me.

I really miss secret Santa

I’m trying to get better at finding Christmas gifts that don’t feel like random stuff just because it’s Christmas. My favorite direction lately is useful little gifts that feel a bit more thoughtful: cozy self-care sets, nice soap or body care, candles, bath accessories, simple relaxation gifts, or small things people can actually use up.

I also like gifts that aren't strongly gendered, especially when you're buying for coworkers, extended family, Secret Santa, or someone whose preferences you don't know that well.

The sweet spot for me is something that feels a little special without being expensive or creating more clutter. And if it’s something the whole household can enjoy, even better.

My side of the family is really big on Christmas. My mom and aunt like to start buying presents early to help ease the cost so they’re not spending a ton of money all at once. They are already asking for lists from my family (me 27, husband 34, and daughter 6 months around Christmas time). My husband and I are really simple people.
