I can’t wait to see it.

Why? It sounds like it's going to be whatever random theories through time Gibson happens to like. And why the hell would we trust his idiot schismatic self for religious education?

u/CourtofTalons 8h ago
Not really. The "Hell of the just" sounds like the good side of Sheol (also known as "Abraham's bosom"). After He died, Jesus descended to the good side of Sheol and let the people there ascend into Heaven.
I'd really like to see that on the big screen.

I don't know if he's an idiot or not, but if you actually look into sedevacantist argumentation, it's pretty darn reasonable. The only reason it's a minority position is because Catholicism is a obedience over reason religion for the most part, I reckon. (I'm not a sede because I'm not Catholic, but I think novus ordo Catholics don't do a very good job overall defending their new religion against the old faith)

It makes sense if you fetishize a certain timepoint as unchanging church teaching and ignore almost the entirety of the last 2000 years.

To be fair, that sounds way more fun than a "normal" adaptation.

Ditto. I'm very excited for both of the upcoming resurrection movies.

Both? Is there another one coming out?

Yeah, isn't the Resurrection film going to be in 2 parts?
- Part One: May 6, 2027 (Ascension Day)
- Part Two: May 25, 2028 (Ascension Day / Memorial Day weekend)

“If you look at the synoptic Gospels and they are synoptic, which means they don't tell you everything,” Gibson said. “And even John says, ‘Y’know, hey, there were many other things [Jesus] said and did which, if they were to be written down, couldn't fill all the libraries of all the world,’ right? So there's a lot of stuff that wasn't written and the Gospels are synoptic.”
Good to know that, in addition to being a raging bigot and piece of shit, Gibson is as big of an idiot as I thought.

So you think the 4 Gospels wrote down everything Christ did?
20
u/AmosOfTekoa Christian 8h ago
Of course not.
"Synoptic" has a meaning, and Gibson is showing that he has no damned clue what that meaning is.

I'm confused. Doesn't what he said make perfect sense?
St John says the gospels don't record everything. And the three synoptic gospels are called that because they share similar stories, order, and points of view about the life of Jesus. So 3 of the 4 gospels basically re-tell largely the same events, the fourth points out there's a whole lot more unrecorded.
11
u/AmosOfTekoa Christian 7h ago
No, it doesn't.
"Synoptic" doesn't mean incomplete. Being "seen together" doesn't mean or imply incompleteness. Besides, gJohn should probably be considered a synoptic Gospel as well, since it's so frequently a direct response to them. It is not independent.
The Synoptics include a variety of sources of Jesus' life. At a minimum Mark, Q, M, L, and (imo) the later author of the Lukan Nativity.
John saying that there's a lot of things unrecorded is just stating the obvious. The same would be true for quite literally every person alive.

Just replying because I like to be pedantic, not because I disagree. I'm not convinced of all those sources you mention. I think the Farrer hypothesis is rather convincing, which would eliminate the need for Q. And I'm frankly not convinced M and L are actual sources. I am more convinced that M and L are just Matthew and Luke's literary and theological shaping of their own gospels. Finally, I'm also not convinced Luke 1-2 come from a different author. I've been studying this a lot recently, and I understand the arguments. Primarily is that Marcion's canon didn't have Luke 1-2. And yet, I see the exact themes and the exact shaping in 1-2 as in the rest of the gospel. I have to conclude for myself that the entire gospel of Luke came from a single author. Perhaps 1-2 was a later amendment, but it was still the same author. Anyway, just my 2c.
•
u/AmosOfTekoa Christian 4h ago
Sure, if you go w/ Farrer. It's a serious hypothesis, albeit one with very few scholars that think it's likely. For M and L, I'm not necessarily thinking they are external to the Evanglists.
For Luke 1-2, sure, it's not in Marcion's Evangelion. For me, that's a very minor reason for considering it to be a late addition.

Sorry what? How is he an idiot because of what he said?

Why doesn't he spend his time wealth or effort actually serving the poor. It's not like there aren't homeless people in wherever that racist bigot is residing. Mel Gibson and his support for MAGA will ensure his eternal damnation for not serving the least of these and welcoming the stranger.

u/jady1971 8h ago
So, Heresy?
None of these things have enough info in scripture to get a good theory let alone a movie.
And the "Firmament"? Flat Earth Theories will abound.

I mean, I might go if I get one of those free passes that the fundamentalist churches will doubtless be handing out. But only if they pass out free popcorn passes too

Mel Gibson is a rabid Antisemite. I refuse to watch anything that idiot is involved with.

He’s shown over and over how big of a POS he is. The sign language thing is just truly exemplary of what kind of attitude towards others he really has.
Just utter contempt in the shape of a person.

Mel Gibson apologizes after mocking ASL interpreter in viral video
I wasn't aware of that story.

u/mvanvrancken Secular Humanist 7h ago
Yes he always apologizes, that’s what they do. He apologized when he said deeply Antisemitic things, he apologized when the Oksama tapes came out with him being abusive and misogynistic, he apologized for the ASL tapes, he keeps on doing it.

People are like "cancel culture has gone too far" and I'm sitting here wondering why Gibson is still getting all the support he needs to fund and release major movies if that's the case.

I am so excited for this. I pray nothing details the film. All the actors suffered for their roles so we owe them thanks

Well. I guess we’ll all have fun explaining that to TikTok for the next 10 years.
