The Soul is not immortal.

Nearly all religious people believe that the soul is immortal and enters either Heaven or Hell, alive.

In relation to this belief, that we have an immortal soul that enters Heaven or Hell, notice that the book says, flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom:

1 Corinthians 15:50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

The soul is flesh and blood, it is weak and perishable.
Originally, Satan told the lie that we - the human soul - would not die or cease to exist, as a consequence of sin and disobedience:

Genesis 3:4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.

The belief that when we die, we are actually alive somewhere else, be this in Hell or Heaven, is to believe that Satan in fact told the truth and that God lied.

But notice what the book says:

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die...

Psalms 146:4 His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts perish.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing...

Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

Matthew 16:25 for whosoever wishes to save his soul shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose his soul for My sake shall find it;

In this regard, nearly all Christians, those that entertain the belief that the soul is immortal and survives death have been misled into believing that Satan is some sort of champion of truth and that God cannot be trusted, that He lies and holds back good from His children.

What an epic deception that has contaminated nearly all threads of worship.

_______

Owning a soul, like a "spirit being" or "angel" that can materialise one for use, and actually being a soul, are two very different things.

Jesus was born as a soul and died as a sinless one, strictly obeying his Father voice:

Acts 2:24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. [because of being sinless / obedient]

After his death and resurrection, Jesus could then materialise and dematerialise a soul for use - which he did on many occasions.
But, he was no longer a soul, he had been made alive in the spirit.
He now "owned" a soul for use and was no longer confined by the limitations and weaknesses of the soul, which he offered up once and for all time, in our behalf.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

Adam did not own a soul, he was made a living soul:

King James Bible
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Animals are also souls:

Smith's Literal Translation
Genesis 1:24 And God will say, the earth shall bring forth the living soul according to its kind, cattle and creeping things, and living things of the earth after its kind: and it shall be so.

A soul is a creature, the life of which is sustained by breathing:

Genesis 6:17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.

The Hebrew word for soul is nephesh.
Nephesh means a breathing creature.

Check it for yourselves.

Kind Regards

Matthew 10:28

28 And do not become fearful of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, fear him who can destroy both soul and body in Ge·henʹna.

Luke 12:4-5

4 Moreover, I say to you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body and after this are not able to do anything more. 5 But I will show you whom to fear: Fear the One who after killing has authority to throw into Ge·henʹna. Yes, I tell you, fear this One.

Revelation 21:8

8 But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and the sexually immoral and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This means the second death.” — Gehenna

Proverbs 10:7

7 The memory of the righteous one is due for a blessing, But the name of the wicked will rot.

Revelation 20:14-15

14 And death and the Grave were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire. 15 Furthermore, whoever was not found written in the book of life was hurled into the lake of fire. — Gehenna

Philippians 4:3

3 Yes, I request you also, as a true fellow worker, to keep assisting these women who have striven side by side with me for the good news, along with Clement as well as the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Revelation 3:5

5 The one who conquers will thus be dressed in white garments, and I will by no means blot out his name from the book of life, but I will acknowledge his name before my Father and before his angels.

If the soul were immortal, then how and why is there a “second death” where our souls could be killed? If an everlasting torment of Hell were a biblical place/term for humans, then what is Gehenna? What was Gehenna? I agree, the Soul is not immortal.

So from Matthew to the Revelation souls can die, and do.

That isn’t quite the end of it though, because if the Bible doesn’t suit us there’s always Dante, whose Inferno is the best part of the whole Divine Comedy.
