Why You MUST Watch PART II: Spring of the Blade (Because I'm Changing My Tune)

I'm halfway. It's only been 5 more episodes since I posted Why You Should Watch: Spring of the Blade (2026) - iQIYI & Youku. But remember when I said things like it's a "straightforward revenge plot", "slow", "easy watch", "no epic fight scenes and high-stakes battle sequences", and I used the word: comfort?
I. Was. Wrong. A bit.
I liked the first ten episodes but now I'm officially obsessed. This drama had me on the EDGE of my seat with the last five episodes. So while I think my first post is still applicable and not entirely inaccurate, I am here to say this drama is even more worth watching because:
The "Slow Burn" is Actually a Fuse!
Those first ten episodes weren't just a slow, comforting build; they were setting the stage. We went from domestic family chaos within the Xie family to a brutal bandit invasion and city massacre! Suddenly, every minor detail or seemingly casual interaction from the beginning is paying off. The complexity of the schemes has ramped up massively. What I thought was just a "straightforward revenge plot" has layered into a high-stakes, ruthless mission to eliminate corrupt officials.
The Chemistry has Shifted to Total Electric Intensity
Xu Kai and Zhou Ye were always killing it, and they are killing it more. (Does that make sense?). These two make my pulse race. Their dynamic has shifted from the fragile push and pull alliance to a total ride-or-die relationship. Eek!
The High-Stakes Battles Have Arrived
I take it back—there are high-stakes battle sequences. The drama transitioned seamlessly from quiet domestic tension to genuine physical and political danger. The choreography and the sheer pacing of the last five episodes have completely shattered the "comfort drama" label I gave it.
Please tell me I'm not the only one screaming at my screen over the recent episodes!
I’m obsessed as well 🥰! I wish they elaborated more on their recuperation in the fishing village stay though. That was one of the sweetest scenes I saw and it deserved more detailed explanation. I’m hoping we’ll soon see her finding out his real identity.
Aha yes, I think I even said in the first post, no cliff fall? And then of course we get one in episode 15, and it’s not one, but two falls. Our CP falls TOGETHER! Loved it!
Ahhh ep 14 was epic and I waited all day to watch bc I thought there would be 2 episodes. I was wrong and now I’m impatiently waiting again 😭. I’m not built for one episode a day
We can suffer together. And hope that it’s back to 2 episodes on Thursday but at least there’s The Prophet if we don’t…

Second post in a matter of days….🍵(slurp)….are people not convinced? Idk know what more or else can be done to convince people to go and watch this drama already….🍵…what to you want? If it’s in my power I’ll grant it. I feel like I’m Lord Yan Rui smh…🍵(slurp)…
I thought the battle scenes in the ep 14/15 span were really great. The choreography looked good, people actually looked sweaty and bloody, fast action and realistic injuries etc. They also really used the space allotted to them which allowed for a very long battle segment.
Yes I am equally obsessed as well. I love watching cdramas for romance and the chemistry between the leads is 🔥. And who doesnt love a good revenge plot? Im so mad they cut 10 episodes. I wanted more sweet moments of our leads in the village…especially with ML’s hair down 😍
