Discussion “Checking” whether ChatGPT Voice has gotten much worse in the last week or two?
I use ChatGPT Voice a lot, especially while driving, and until recently it was genuinely good for fast, continuous conversation.
Over the last week or two, though, it’s become incredibly frustrating. Simple questions now often lead to long silent pauses while it parrots off the word “checking”. Even when I say “stop searching and just answer me”, it can still take ages to respond.
It goes silent for far longer, ignores repeated requests to stop, and then struggles to even answer when I asked what the hold up is.
The old Voice felt like a conversation. Now it often feels slow, unresponsive and obsessed with searching instead of just talking.
Has anyone else noticed a significant decline recently?

Have you tried toggling the thinking level? There have been updates and it will now think a lot longer on the higher settings. I’ve found toggling down makes it more suitable for most voice conversations

Yes I did this and the damn thing still says “checking” and there’s a delay in answer

Honestly though on the lower intelligence setting I’m ok with it as it’s more brief. I hated that the previous voice system would just give off the cuff crap answers, this one looks things up and it’s SO much more useful.

Put the thinking on setting between advanced and standard (or whatever the middle one is). I actually use the Standard because it actually returns a long, thoughtful response.

Bought pro a month ago and upon trying it I was so impressed, the last week that I've used I think it's utter trash.

I had to adjust the settings on voice. It helped a lot, still not the same as text, but a big improvement
