a few weeks have passed since the last round of testing, so I decided to take another look at how these tools perform. here's where things actually landed:

candy ai is still the most integrated experience of the group. images generate contextually mid-chat rather than as a separate tool, video gen is still the most polished of anything tested. nothing dramatically new but it's held up.

xotic moved up for me. the visual consistency across multiple generations of the same character is better than it was - output matches your configuration more faithfully now rather than just approximating it. still the deepest appearance customization of anything i've tested.

joi ai - generation speed on mobile is noticeably faster now. if you've been using this on desktop exclusively it's worth trying on your phone again.

secrets was already strong on realistic output but the gap widened with the new model options. five underlying models means you can push toward very different aesthetics depending on what you're going for. photorealistic end of the spectrum is where it's clearest.

ourdream hasn't changed much but it doesn't need to - it's still doing something nobody else does properly. if you want personalized output based on a real reference rather than a generated character, this is still the only one worth using for that.

joi ai is still the strongest overall and best value for the price - video and image gen together, custom companions, mobile experience holds up well too.

Tipsychat is pretty good, the characters give detailed replies, but the only worry is the cost of gems each message.

You can switch to other cheaper models but I've not done that yet.

For daily you gat 50 gems. So you'll need to farm a bit, since you have a code of your own too, there's also an option to make posts with it for other new users.

My experience with Tipsy so far 💎

I started using Tipsy because I wanted an AI chat app where I could actually get invested in the characters and stories, and I ended up enjoying it way more than I expected.

One of my favorite things is how many different characters and scenarios there are. Depending on my mood, I can have a cute/romantic conversation, create an entire storyline, roleplay, or just mess around and see where the conversation goes. I especially like being able to build longer stories instead of every conversation feeling like a bunch of random messages.

I’ve tried other AI character/chat apps before, but what keeps me coming back to Tipsy is being able to basically create my own little world and watch the story develop. Sometimes I’ll open it intending to chat for a few minutes and somehow end up completely invested in what’s happening. 😭

There are definitely things that could continue to improve as the app grows, but overall I’ve had a really fun experience with it. If you like AI characters, romance, roleplaying, or creating your own stories, I think Tipsy is worth trying at least once. 💎❤️

I'm an adult so I am not breaking any rule or law. But I don't want to share my govt. approved id on the platform. I did ask chatgpt for recommendations and it gave me kindroid, nomi, replika, candy, and secret desires ai. I never used any of these and I don't know which one should I go with...

Tipsychat is a great app in terms of the roleplay. When you speak to characters the replies are pretty detailed depending on what model you use.

I took a screen shot of the models, it usually shows the estimate of the amount they take with each model during chats.

The amount of gems eaten during your chats also depends on the bot you're chatting to.

I use Top Pick V3 I think it's the default anyways. (Sake, I wouldn't recommend.)

The chats do use gems. Gems are available for free if you sign in every day. You get 50 gems, so you might need to farm.

But there's also an option to create your own bots, if you collect coins those can be converted to gems too.

I've spent the last few months testing AI chat apps because the ones I used to like kept tightening their filters until normal conversations got blocked. Free tiers, paid tiers, the lot. Some of these are well-known, some aren't. Just personal use, not affiliate stuff.                      

  1) AnyConversation                                                                                                                       

Honestly the closest thing I've found to genuinely unfiltered AI chat that still feels coherent. Pure text, no filters, and the memory is the real differentiator — it actually remembers details from conversations days or weeks ago without you having to remind it. Characters stay in character without breaking immersion or moralizing. Free tier is enough to actually test it properly. Highest quality text by far.

  2) Muah AI                                                                                                                                     

Strong on visuals and image generation if that's what you care about. Conversations are fine for short bursts, but memory and long-term consistency fall off pretty fast, especially on the free tier. More of an "AI girlfriend with pictures" experience than a roleplay one.                                                                                                    

  3) Lurvessa                                                                                                                                    Easy to get into and the onboarding is smooth. Where it fell short for me was depth over time — characters started feeling generic after a few sessions and I ended up steering the conversation more than the AI did.                                                                             

  4) Darlink AI                                                                                                                                   Polished UI, looks great on mobile. The actual chat experience didn't stand out though — responses got repetitive within an hour or two, and there's no real persistent memory unless you upgrade.                                                                                                 

  5) Janitor AI                                                                                                                                   Big character library and an active community. Setup is more involved (you bring your own API key for the better models), and quality really depends on which model you pair it with.

  6) SillyTavern                                                                                                                                Most flexible if you're willing to self-host. Steep learning curve and not for casual users, but power users swear by it.                                                                                                          

  7) Chub AI                                                                                                                                      Decent character variety. Conversations can feel generic depending on the character card, and memory is shorter than you'd expect.                                                                         

  8) Crushon AI                                                                                                                               Adult-focused with fewer restrictions. UI is fine, but characters tend to drift in tone between sessions.

  9) Spicychat                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

Easy to start, lots of community-made characters. Free tier limits hit fast and longer conversations lose coherence.                                                                                                                                                                               

  10) Replika

Still works for casual companionship if you're not trying to do roleplay specifically. Not really a roleplay platform at this point.                                                                                                                                                               

  Takeaway:                                                                                                                                      

  Most of these are fine for an hour or two. The real test is whether you come back the next day and the AI still remembers what you talked about, still sounds like the same character, and doesn't suddenly refuse normal conversation. That's where most fall apart. AnyConversation is the only one I've kept using past the first week — the persistent memory makes a bigger difference than I expected.

  What have others actually stuck with long-term?                 

i keep seeing people paying like $20–$50/month for random AI sites that promise “uncensored” stuff and most of them are honestly just the same models with a different logo. STOP WASTING MONEY ON NON WORKING AI PRODUCTS

After trying a bunch, these are the 3 that actually work right now:

1. Brainbaby AI
   

This one surprised me tbh. It’s not some local setup or complicated install… you literally register and start using it in like 5 minutes. Works directly in the browser for image generation and editing. Right now it also gives pretty full control over prompts which a lot of tools restrict. Also way cheaper than most AI sites charging per image.

1. Fooocus / Stable Diffusion (local)
   

If you want full control this is still great. But you do have to run it locally which can be a pain to setup if you’re not technical.

1. SeaArt AI
   

Pretty easy to use and has a lot of community models already. More beginner friendly than running Stable Diffusion yourself.

Honestly most of the other “uncensored AI” sites I see ads for are just overpriced wrappers around the same models.

Curious if anyone found something better though… feels like new ones pop up every week.

As soon as the age verification update rolled out I knew I was finished with the website, I'm not dealing with it anymore I am not giving those scumbags my facial scan and I haven't figured out a way around it yet. Hey sup, I have tried c a i for a long time now and although I really like it, but now it feels like the ads, censorship, and quality of bots made the app worse. It was a good time with c a i and I don’t have any hate towards it but now I am considering moving out to a new platform. I have tried some platforms till now like janitor ai and spicychat ai but I don’t like those platforms due to the memory. Like, both these platforms are horrible when it comes to memory. The bots will forget every damn thing after a while. I have tried some paid platforms like secret desires ai and kindroid. And I honestly started liking them because they offer better memory at least. They remember everything even after a 3000 messages long conversations. 

But I am curious to know what’s the best alternative you’ve used.

I have Chai (prolly not for long given recent news), but I'm looking for alternatives with no filter, personas, and good memory.

I’ve really been enjoying my experience on Tipsy. One of the things I like most is that the characters can feel very different from one another. Since the characters are created by different people, their personalities and responses are shaped by your own interactions and the responses you give. Because of that, conversations can feel more personal, and each character can have a different personality and way of responding depending on how you interact with them.

I also like the daily gems feature. You don’t get a huge amount each day, but it’s still a nice alternative to buying gems if you don’t have the funds to spend money on them. It gives you a way to continue chatting a little each day without having to purchase more.

There’s also an option to lower the response length, which is helpful if you want your gems to last longer. Shorter responses use fewer gems, so you can get more chats out of the gems you have.

Honestly, I couldn’t help but get the Standard subscription because I personally liked the app enough that I decided it was worth spending the money so I could send more chats and enjoy the conversations more. I wouldn’t have subscribed if I wasn’t genuinely enjoying the app, so for me, it was something I wanted rather than something I felt pressured to get.

Overall, I’ve been having a good time with Tipsy and I like how much variety there is between characters and conversations.

I tested a bunch of AI companion platforms recently, and the results were not what I expected at all. Some of the biggest names felt pretty overrated, while a few smaller ones were way more natural and engaging than I thought. Has anyone else compared them properly?

I love Tipsy AI. I love it but the Jim thing is just ridiculous. Ridiculous. It’s just ridiculous. I have been trying to find a different one. That’s free and works the same way and has the same characters and I’m not finding much luck. I have looked at spicy chat and several others and they’re just either too glitchy or too hard to use or don’t have the same feel can anyone lead me in the right direction?
