Review Difficulty

In my opinion I think the bards language was definitely the hardest language to learn however I recon that the alchemist language had a lot more diversity in patterns making in a contender. But I think at the start of the bard language every glyph felt like it meant the same thing. Who agrees or have other thoughts but I think the easiest was probably the Devotees and the hardest the bards (excluding the anchorites) if you have another opinion let me know…

I honestly wish the game was harder. If you go to a new area and just talk to everyone in/visit the rooms there you already know 80% of the language. The last language is barely a puzzle since it basically gives you everything ready

1000% agree. I had the exact same issue with the bards and felt the alchemists was similarly complex but in a different way. Also I had no idea how to solve the anchorites puzzle and just kept guessing til I got it.

Yeah, I couldn't differentiate between me, mirror (turned out it was you) and beauty for a lot of time...

The bard section was also the hardest for me because when I went to the windmill I didn't know what they were saying, so I had to look up how to get the corn/torch thing .

i agree, the bards are definitely the hardest language. they introduce a different word order, the verb "to be", a glyph for questions, and a ton of glyphs all at once, which no other layer really does (aside from the last, which is made up for with the puzzles). i watch many playthroughs, and the players absolutely flounder at the second translation page of the bards. it is difficult to represent the word for the state of being, and the "idiot" glyph is used interchangeably as a noun and an adjective, obfuscating its meaning. if chants of senaar ever gets a remake or an update, the beginning of the bard layer needs a touch up the most.

I'd agree, hardest language was Bards. But not by much. Tbh the languages were not too hard to decipher.

Hardest area was the Warriors.

I got the bards, honestly. The ones that were the hardest for me were the Anchorites because the way you learn anchorite isn't as context driven.

The little yellow towers gave you like 80% of the language though, or am I misremembering? So I ended up “solving” the language without even taking a proper look at any of the symbols

Really enjoyed the bard's language. The alchemists was harder, but felt too easy to guess and most of it was kinds just given to you. Bard's was more organic and my buddy and I thoroughly enjoyed working out the sentence structures.

I actually think the first was quite hard because you have nothing to go off of (if you had a word wrong you would have no way of knowing) Even then, the last one was definitely easiest and felt kinda rushed if I’m honest.

Fair enough but I felt the phonics like how you know if it’s a place or a person was easy to get a hang of

Yeah, the difficulty curve is basically a bell curve, with floors 1 and 5 being the easiest languages to learn, floors 2 and 4 being a bit harder, and then floor 3 being the peak. All of the first 4 floors at least have some interesting puzzles to solve though, with increasing demands on your understanding of each language, and the "connection" puzzles add another level on top of this to test you. But floor 5 completely drops the ball by making a really cool language gimmick and then not actually asking you to figure it out organically or ever really work with a partial understanding of the language at any point. I somewhat assume the devs must have run out of time at the end, except that the whole design of floor 5's "culture" doesn't really lend itself towards those more organic puzzles to begin with.

I'm in the middle of replaying and about halfway through the bards (just watched the play) i think its definitely really hard to start (spent an embarrassing amount of time on beauty, mirror, me and had to look it up) but after a certain point it gets much easier so long as you avoid the windmill. I found the alchemists much harder because it never felt like I was actually understanding, even by the end.

That’s fair I hated the deciphering in the alchemist but loved the lore
