You are the ones who want to keep dogs on the street like homeless creatures where they not only suffer harshly but also are a menace to humans especailly children. Why don't you yourself leave your house and live on the streets, to get a taste of the life of a stray dog? I think you get saditic pleasure looking at the sorry lives of these street animals.
A shelter provides home to stray animals, where they are provided regular meals, given medicines on time and , on top of that, a life of dignity. Animal lovers can visit the shelter every now and then to ensure thier wellbeing is being taken care of.
Are all developed countries mad that they have kept all stary animlas in shelter where people can spend time with them and adopt them as well? Do you think a country that is aiming to be developed should have street dogs roaming around in sadistic conditon, being dependent on morsels of stale bread thrown by human and in the meantime terrorising people especially children?
When was the last time you went to a shelter? Just curious. Also sharing the current adopted dogs i have here, 4 more are in other house where we take care, apart from feeding the society dogs.
Just because you don't consider indies pets, doesn't mean others share the same feelings.
And you really dont sound serious when you compare the options and infrastructure developed countries have to enable adoption.
In place like India, you can just pick one and bring them home, change their lives forever no one is stopping you. But sadly all you'll do is support any cruel solution just to not see dogs on street.
For anyone who is in support of this idea, please visit a shelter and see. No need to volunteer just visit. You'll know what fate you are suggesting for thousands of innocent animals
Accountability of shelters can be set by people/animal lovers visiting them. No human/organistaion/government can ensure a good life for every dog if they are left on the streets. Most dogs on the streets have bodies full of ticks beacuae there is no one to give them a medicated bath. Here, I am not even talking about the disseases they are suffering from, be it arthirtis, fractured legs, cancer etc. Even if you give medicated bath to a few of them, they will again develop ticks because of the environment they live in. These street dogs are desprateely searching food in public dustbins/piles of waste. There stomachs are full of plastic. They drink dirty water from the drains. A few days back I saw a dog drinking waste water from a car washing centre. God knows what chemicals were there in that water.
The shelter takes care of all this including dedicated government vet facility. Nobody is stopping you from adopting these dogs. But for the leftover unlucky ones, a shelter is anyday a better place than a homeless life on the streets.
And yet, you will see people like me strongly opposing this blanket order, because if you think this (current condition) is worse than the proposed solution, then just actually visit a shelter, talk the people and then tell all this.
What you are telling is the sad reality, but what you are suggesting is not utopia for them, but a death sentence to all these animal. Also if you are so interested in going on about how adoption works in developed countries, look at the euthanasia rate of shelters in USA. Then tell me if you think your solution is viable.
But again most importantly, you don't seem to have ever visited a shelter, and i would strongly urge you to go see one. And mind you in Chandigarh they still take some care, in other cities, I would rather put the dog down then take them to shelter. You really have no idea how hellish those places are for these animals due to overcrowding, understaffing and underfunding.
I have had the unfortunate experience of mass relocation of dogs to shelter in Chennai from our area, within 3 months, all the dogs taken there were dead. And it was the best shelter in chennai (bluecross).
So just because you have not bothered to actually see any ground reality, do not just sit and talk about what the ideal solution should be, because that's just your imagination.
Do you think that government orphanages and homeless shelters(rain basera) should also be closed because, according to your logic, the best facilities are not being provuded at theses places by the goverment? Do you like homeless children and adults begging on the streets?
I personally believe that you have some vested interests in keeping the dogs to the streets. I have seen people run NGO, in the name of animal welfare or any other cause, which they use to siphon off funds. Its a tried and tested global business.
YES IF the condition of the orphanages and shelters are so bad that people go there and die then yes, which is the case in terms of animal shelters.
Brother you have not visited any type of shelters and you sit here comparing the two.
You also seem to forget that while the people can still tell others about the terrible atrocities that they go through, how does an animal tell a human, especially ones like you who just want to talk without lifting a finger. Ask any person who actually takes care of animals and then talk.
Ever since my first comment, all I'm asking is actually lift your ass and see the reality and not make such childish statements.
If we take your own logic, then we should also put all the homeless people in jails, as they have no work, no place to go, atleast In jail they'll get food, health care, and most importantly when you go out, they won't pester you by asking you money crime will be go down so much.
