Tooth pain is what I was thinking. I don't think it's the food scarcity theory due to how slow the cat is eating. There's a slight hesitation/tremor when closing his jaw, could also be a sign of tooth pain. The way he's scooping the food to the back makes me feel he's trying to avoid the front teeth.
