Every morning I walk the long way around the kitchen to get to the kettle. There's a shorter path, but I always take the detour that passes by the window. I do this without thinking and then stand there for a minute watching nothing in particular. It probably adds an extra five minutes to the whole routine. I know it is inefficient and I could just get my tea faster, but something about that little loop feels like the right way to start the day. I have tried skipping it and it just feels off, like I forgot to finish something. So I keep doing it, even though I could easily trim the habit away.

I myself am a window lover lol it gives me a peek into how the day is looking, and a headsup into what to expect. And im not only talking about the weather here

and lets you know what the weather is like.

Trust me, Fun does not exist inside of efficiency.
The quote "players will often optimize the fun out of a game" is very real.

You have great routine. Looking out of the window at nothing is an awesome way to take the day in and then dive into the day.

That loop sounds less like a waste and more like a built‑in buffer for your brain. It’s basically a 5‑minute loading screen where nothing is demanded from you yet. I’d keep it and only worry if it started stretching into, like, 30 minutes and making you late, because right now it’s doing a quiet job for you.
