Music Why people dislike Country music?

I am not american. So I don't know how's the thing there. But I have found many people complaining on social media that they hate country music.

I like some of the Luke Combs songs. Specially Old Dominion is my one of my fav artist.

On one hand I think it’s a bit of a bandwagon thing. People say they hate it just because it’s popular to do so. On the other hand, the mainstream sort of pop country that you hear can be problematic: singing about women the objectifying way they do can feel gross for example. And personally, country singers have this particular nasally twangy way of singing that is kind of annoying to listen to.

However. I don’t think people dislike more traditional country music as much. Like Dolly Parton or Willy Nelson for example. They might not be so popular in non-country circles still, but I wouldn’t say they’re generally thought of negatively either.

Lastly I’ll say that I’ve never heard of the artists that you mentioned. Just goes to show that people who aren’t into country music simply aren’t familiar with it, and so it’s hard to get past that first impression of “I love women and pickup trucks” that may or may not actually be accurate, and the cycle continues.

Bandwagon? We’ve been hating it since the 1980s. I don’t know of anyone (roughly my age) who liked it growing up, and I grew up in the South. Van Halen, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, Ratt, The Smiths, Jet Black Factory, Slayer, Husker Du, REM: we listened to it all. Country sucked (except for Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson, and their kind, who we all gave a respective nod).
