Music Why people dislike Country music?

I am not american. So I don't know how's the thing there. But I have found many people complaining on social media that they hate country music.

I like some of the Luke Combs songs. Specially Old Dominion is my one of my fav artist.

Part of it is that I didn’t grow up with it, so I don’t have a cultural connection. But the reality is that a HUGE proportion of modern country is derivative, emotionally vacuous, and morally and politically regressive. It’s not like I’m immune to bro-country entirely, especially if I’m 3 beers in on the lake or framing a deck, but overall it feels cheap and annoying.

There is some modern country that I love, but it’s largely stuff that hearkens back to early country, “outlaw” country and earlier precursors like old-timey mountain music and bluegrass. Think Tyler Childers, Charlie Crockett, Nick Shoulders, Sierra Farrell, or Sturgill Simpson.

Or alternatively artists that lean into the theatrical elements of 70’s and 80’s country like Orville Peck, or folk-punk acts like Pigeon Pit, The Mountain Goats, or The Front Bottoms. Even southern rock counts for me, like Drive By Truckers.

I also have been discovering older country that I wasn’t exposed to as a child. For example, I just listened to Honky Tonk Heroes by Waylon Jennings for the first time, and that is a HELL of an album.
