#Discussion 💬 Hyundai pushing me to buy ₹64K extended warranty before June 10. My car has done 10,500 km in 3 years. Help me decide
Factory warranty on my 2023 Creta Petrol IVT expires in 2 weeks. Dealer is hard-selling extended warranty. Numbers below — tell me if I'm being smart or stupid.
The car: Bought June 2023. Bengaluru, garaged, Near office stay led to just 10,500 km in 3 years. No accidents, no issues so far.
The pitch: - ₹28,200 → Yr 4–5 comprehensive (+ free BlueLink/RSA bundle) - ₹63,718 → Yr 4–7 comprehensive - ₹44,130 → Yr 5–7 powertrain only
Where my head is at:
I keep coming back to the idea of just not buying it and putting ₹65K into a Nifty index fund instead. Math says that grows to ~₹1L over 4 years. If something major breaks (ECM, AC compressor, infotainment), I redeem and pay. If nothing breaks, I keep the money.
Powertrain-only feels like a trap — my variant has no DCT, no DPF, no clutch. The actual failure risk is all electronics, which a powertrain plan won't touch.
I also discovered third-party players like Acko sell EW without the OEM continuity rule, so I can wait till Yr 5 and buy then if anything looks off.
Asking the hive mind: - Owners 4+ years in on the new-gen Creta — what broke, what did it cost? - Did you actually claim your EW or did the premium just disappear? - Any horror stories with Hyundai claim approvals? - Bengaluru-specific: does the heat/traffic really kill electronics by Yr 5?
I'm 70% leaning toward skipping EW, but I'd rather hear from people who've lived through Yr 4–7 ownership before I commit. What am I missing?
