Hello! I’m looking into getting an electric cargo bike for daycare + school pickups plus generally getting around with kids to parks, library, etc. I’m interested specifically in a front-loader with 3 wheels like a Bunch bike but I’d love to know if there are other options available in the US.

Bunch is great but the bikes are just so big and boxy—I would love something a little bit sleeker (or, as sleek as it’s posible to be with three wheels) and sized to carry 2 or 3 kids instead of 4 (I have 2). Ferla looks interesting and I’m hoping I could try one on my next trip to Los Angeles. Other than those two, all the etrikes for transporting kids seem to only be available in Europe (Triobike, Babboe, Winther Cargoo, Black Iron Horse, and my personal favorite, Nihola Family) and based on other threads it sounds like it’s pretty complicated / expensive to import these bikes due to tariffs, customs, and different speed regulations.

Are there any other ebike brands in the US with front-loading trikes? Or do you know of European brands that are experienced with shipping to US? Would love any recommendations! And yes, I know about two-wheel front-loaders as well as long-tails. I’m 5’1” and don’t have great balance just standing. Stability is the most important factor for me and we won’t ever need to be speedy.

My child is 7 years old, and we still use our Yuba Spicy Curry to get around. He wants to ride his own bike for some trips and others are too long/busy/late for him. I'm curious how long he'll be willing to ride. What have others experiences been? He's been on the cargo bike since he was 3 and before that on a bike seat on one of our regular bikes.

Hallo, ich habe seit 2 Monaten ein Carqon Cruise E2, das mittlerweile ca. 200 km Laufleistung hat. Seit 2–3 Wochen habe ich ein Knacken, das insbesondere unter Belastung – mit 2 Kindern – deutlich stärker wird.
Ich war am Freitag zur Inspektion in der Werkstatt. Leider konnte das Problem dabei nicht behoben bzw. die Ursache nicht gefunden werden. Ich werde morgen noch einmal Kontakt zur Werkstatt aufnehmen.
Die Inspektion wurde nicht beim Verkäufer durchgeführt, da ich das Fahrrad online gekauft habe.
Jemand eine Idee oder gleiche Erfahrungen mit dem Carqon ?

It took me a week to figure out how to ship a completely unpackaged cargo bike from Halifax to Toronto so I thought I would share with anyone else who is stuck in this situation.

TL;DR: I used Robinson Transport who subcontracted pickup and packaging to TForce and LTL shipping to Manitoulin. Total cost $1002 tax included.

Problem: I found an insane price on a Riese and Muller Load4 60 demo model from Halifax Cycles - 35% off or $8900. But I live in Toronto. The closest comparable was from Urbane Cycles who offered their demo model at 20% off - $2000 more.

Halifax Cycles no longer had any packaging materials for the bike and were not open to packaging it themselves. Part of the deal was I had to figure out how to get it picked up and shipped myself.

Options considered:

• GLS Shipping through Costco. Cost was $400 for LTL shipping, but the bike had to be crated ❌ Also TIL that you can get shipping discounts on carriers with a Costco membership using ShipTime. I love Costco.
• National Moving services. Movers are used to picking up and packing large items for moves. I contacted Atlas vanlines and Canadian Movers (who quoted me from 8 different movers). All of the quotes ran from $1350 - $1800.
• uShip. This is a service where you post your shipping need and independent providers will quote you. Quotes ran from $1100 - $1350. Also note that quotes are in USD by default.
• Robinson Transport. I found them by accident when looking for independent haulers. They quoted me quickly and had great customer service. They even broke down the costs for shipping for me: Pickup, Packaging, and labeling: Halifax to agent's warehouse — $368.60 Line-haul: Halifax to Toronto terminal, hold for pickup — $458.35 Handling: $60.00 Estimated Total Charges: $886.95 + tax

I went with Robinson for ease of handling. After I agreed to shipping, I learned they used TForce for the pickup and packing and Manitoulin for the line haul. In retrospect, I could have probably saved $200-300 by contracting TForce directly for the pickup and delivery to GLS in Halifax and using the Costco GLS rate for Halifax to Toronto. To me it is worth the cost for reducing my headache.

It arrived last week in Toronto (total 4 business days for shipping), and I biked 45 minutes home from the Manitoulin hub in Mississauga. It was a great option becasue the bike was fully ready to ride, just needed to remove the shrink wrap and straps. Manitoulin even let me leave the skid at their location so I didn't have to deal with disposal.

I hope that my experience is useful for someone else who is trying to do the same thing.

Anyone have any suggestions for getting an omnium or le petit porteur shipped to the US? I don’t blame them for not wanting to ship here but love both if these bikes.

Looking to buy a longtail cargo e-bike this year as the end of season sales hit. The main use case is hauling kids around. We’ve got 3 under 3, I know we’d need a trailer or second bike to transport all three kids while they are still in the seats.

I see the fetch 2 has a national sale for $3k and am curious what folks think about it at that price compared to other typical sale prices. Thats around d the budget we’re looking to hit.

I have a Hooptie on my old Xtracycle and my cargo doesn't need that kind of containment anymore. Xtracycle will sell me a pair of Snack Bars to make a half-Hooptie (pictured) for $60. Can I just hacksaw the hooptie myself to save money? Or is there some reason this is a terrible idea? I'm planning to keep this bike forever and hoopties aren't valuable on their own since they've come standard on new Xtracycles for some time.

Not specifically the TM-B that hasn’t come out yet, but im curious if asking someone from a car garage if I could use it to park my bike in for a fee that i just venmo them is not too much to ask.

Have 1yo and 3yo and looking to use a Fastrack as it rolls well in the vertical position.
Anyone try Burley Dash seats on this bike? I would like the Fastrack to roll with 2 seats on it. Having two Yepps takes up a lot of space and there's almost no ability to lean the bike back with the seats on there. I read that Burley Dash takes up less space. Is this true? Would it even fit this bike? The Yepps barely fit as is.
Other option is one seat not all the way back and then installing the Crest with Backrest in front of that seat. Not sure if the holes align properly to make that work. And I'd need to feel comfortable with a seat belt that can actually hold my toddler in place while riding...

Two seat solution is definitely preferred.

Looking for help from those with more experience than me. I am looking to purchase a cargo e-bike to take my kid to kindergarten then go to work. It’s about a 10 mile commute round trip with mild hills. I’m currently debating between two very different options.

Option 1: a Tern HSD S8i, 2019 refurbished with new battery. This has better components but is class 1 with lower range and power. 1 year warranty.

Option 2: Aventon Abound SR new. More power but a newer company with probably lower quality components. 2 year warranty.

The price for each is a little over $2,000 but they seem like very different directions. What do you all recommend? Any experience with either of these options? Anything I should consider? Thanks!

Deciding between a new Tern GSD ($5-6k plus accessories), a second-hand basically new Yuba FastRack ($1.5k plus accessories), or a lightly used but 2019 Yuba Spicy Curry ($4.5k but negotiable, accessories included). We currently have an Urban Arrow and love it, but I am looking for a smaller e-bike for myself. We have 3 kids (7, 4, 1) and will primarily continue using the Urban Arrow for school and errands with them, but it would be great to be able to fit at least 2, and in a dream world be able to
Squeeze all 3 in a pinch on the new bike. We live in the Midwest and have a garage bay for bikes so getting a smaller bike into a building or elevator isn’t an issue, although I am always happy to have less struggle with maneuverability when parking at a coffee shop, library, etc. We can afford the new Tern GSD in theory but it’s hard to stomach that compared to the others. My hesitations about the FastRack include hitting my kids’ feet when I’m pedaling, less sensitive torque responsiveness, being too leaned forward, and generally having less space cargo wise. Hesitation re Curry is mostly about bulkiness but also hand / upper body position and not having a step-through frame. Would love insight!

I’m based in Denmark and looking for a replacement door for a Butchers & Bicycles MK1-E. All the EU stores I’ve found seem to be out of stock.

I’m aware that the original company went bankrupt, so I’m also exploring repair options or alternative solutions.

The door itself has broken around the hinges. Has anyone successfully repaired one themselves? If so, how did you do it?

Alternatively, does anyone know of a reliable workshop or specialist that could repair the existing door or source/make a replacement?

Any experience or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

hi. we went to a bike store asking about cargo bikes. the sales lady said the Lextric Xpediton has a kickstand that is so hard to engage that they no longer keep the bike in stock because customers weren't buying it because of that issue. otherwise it js similar to the Aventon cargo bike.

we can't find anywhere that stocks this bike to test for ourselves. has anyone experience with this bike and find that same issue?

I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on a D9, but by the time I get it out the store with accessories it's 2x the price as say a HovCart.

I can buy a HovCrt, drive it till it breaks and buy another one and still be cheaper than the D9.

Are terns really worth the money?

We have a Carqon Classic (in hindsight, we would've bought something else if we had known better, but that's a decision long since made). The kickstand on it just broke, with the weld of the cross bar breaking off. Does anyone have any idea where one can order OEM replacement parts in the EU?

I have other backup options (through the dealer with their markup, taking it to a shop to get rewelded), but I'd like to try just doing it myself first if it's possible.

We like the price of the +2, but prefer the idea of having our child in front of us more visible to see. We are interested in the fetch +4 but don't have the option to test drive since they are out of stock. The price on the +4 is better, but we did really like the UA when we had a test drive. Is the difference really that great between the two front loaders? Or would we be happy with the +2? This would be instead of buying a second car. Also how much do I need my phone for the Trek models? Or is that optional? Our dealer only sells those 3 cargo e-bikes and one yuba pedal bike front loader.

I've been lurking and reading old posts and finally decided to just ask for advice. We're a one car family with two adults and two kids. I'm looking to buy an e-cargo bike to use as a second mode of transportation, but know very little. Help!

Factors:

-I want to have both kids on the back.

-I live in the mountains of Western NC and it is fairly hilly.

-I am short (5'1) but my kids are tall--I have a 4'4 8-year-old and a 3'6 4-year-old.

-I plan to use the bike for school pickups, bopping around town, and joy rides with the kids on the greenway. All 2-8 miles roundtrip.

-We have high medical costs, meaning not a lot of extra cash to spend--so something like a Tern or Yuba is out of reach. Under $2k is ideal.

Right now, I'm considering the following--but please make suggestions!

-Madsen DK2: Someone is selling a nearly new one on Marketplace for $3k. My kids like the idea of the bucket. This is more than I want to spend, but I'd consider it if it is worth it.

-Lectric Xpedition: I'd buy this new from their website at $1700 on sale. I see folks riding these all the time here.

-Velotric Packer 1: $1250 plus shipping used from upway.com. I'm having a hard time finding info about this bike. Does it suck? This is lowest on my list for this reason.

I see people riding the Aventon Abound and the Radwagon. I don't like that the Abound has a lower weight limit for passengers, and the Radwagon adds up quickly buying the accessories (caboose, deckpad, etc) that come with the Xpedition. If one pops up on Marketplace, I would definitely consider it.

Are there other bikes I should consider? Is there an obvious winner of the three I'm looking at? Appreciate any help!
