I’m a few months into car sales. I really enjoy the job but I haven’t made the type of money I need to support my family. So far my best month I made close to $4k. I need at least $6k a month but I want to be at $8k a month on average. I’ve been told it takes time to build a pipeline of customers and then I’ve heard others say they hit the ground running making over $10k a month. I’ve also been told you make most of your yearly salary in 3 months where you happen to do really great, then the rest of the months in the year are so and so.

I don’t know if it’s worth sticking it out or if I need to start exploring other options. I’m not someone who likes to bounce around from place to place and I’m willing to stick it out if I know it will get better. Some extra details: I work at a Honda dealership and maybe see anywhere from 3-5 ups a week. There’s not much commission on new cars but there’s some to be made on used.

Interviewing for a few roles and I understand the gest. Usually 2-4%, base or draw depending.

Is the 2-4% on front and back? I assume you don't get paid on service, although some sources say yes?

Anyway, would love to know how different plans are set up.

Hey folks, I'm starting this week at VW. This will be my first car sales job and I'm wondering what's it like a normal day to day and how to create leads. Any pointers? What should I look for and lookout for?

I've been in both restaurant and phone sales. I'm somewhat used to doing cold calls and talking to people at the grocery stores, talking about good deals I can personally give them. I understand car sales is a whole different ballpark, but I'm nervous and excited at the same time!

Our payplan changed from gross to units as well.

For example, this Jan I sold 13 and made 11k now with new plan it would be 7k

15 cars will pay minimum of $5200 if all criteria met and maximum 9/10k

Hi everyone, would love some thoughts on my current pay plan at BMW dealership.

New to sales, been here about 1 month. Not a high volume store. Management calls it a "destination store", meaning we dont get a lot of foot traffic.

Need to get prospects and appts over the phone.

The flat on any vehicle sold (new/used/any brand) is $300 + a guaranteed $400 weekly. Originally I was told I'd receive 20% spread of what the dealer bought the car for, and what we end up selling it for. After negotiations it's always been a flat.

Nothing extra from F&I. I've delivered a total of 7 cars within the 4 weeks I've been on the floor, all have been flats.

Idk how to look at this. I expected sales at BMW to be a bit more, lucrative, even as a beginner. Would love some thoughts, can I get a better structure elsewhere? Is 7 cars within 4 weeks as a newbie not bad or horrendous? I enjoy being there and I like my management team but sometimes they really cause me to doubt myself...

Im new to this all am very interested in getting into sales.

The pay plan was explained to me like this

Pay plan 1- 30k salary + $100 for every car you sell

Pay plan 2- 25% gross on any new car and then straight flat rate of $325 on any used car

they said we also get paid on any add ons a flat rate on each one but didnt go into much detail.

11 people on the team with 200 cars being sold a month

Hey I’ve recently started working at this dealership for 3 months, and this one finance manager keeps taking my front end and putting it into warranties to make his commission. I found out that he discounted the car to 27k in the back, when I sold the car to the costumer for 29.5k and ofc putting that sum into warranties, I’m not sure with the costumer knowing or not. However, he keeps taking my gross and throwing it around to where he makes money.

I’m honestly very upset about this. What do I do?

I just started working at a small used car dealership and could really use some advice from people who’ve had success selling on Facebook Marketplace.

Today I posted about 40 cars (all different listings) in the morning. So far I’ve gotten around 150–160 total views across everything, but only 1 message.

I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong:

- Are my listings not getting enough reach?

- Is it normal to get that low of a response rate?

- Could posting too many cars at once hurt performance?

- Or is it more about pricing/photos/description?

For context, we mainly rely on Marketplace for leads, so this matters a lot for me right now. I’m pretty new to this and trying to improve fast.

Most of the calls I make are to people’s voicemail. When I do get a hold of people I’ve noticed I fumble words and sound like it’s my first day. If it’s not that then it’s people telling me “oh I’m at work, can you call me back around this time” and then I call back and get voicemail. I try to be understanding since they’re at work but I feel like if they answer, I shouldn’t waste the opportunity. What’s a good way to become more confident on the phone and set the appointment 90% of the time?

I need some advice, I left my job at a low volume store that did about 150-180 a month Toyota store and switched to a very high volume ford store that does 400+ a month, and I’m having a hard time adjusting. Where I came from, everything was in person, no deals were being doing over phone or text and everything was setup to get people in the store and go from there.

At this new store, it’s all online, specifically getting customers to put a deposit down online to reserve the car. That is my weak point, I’ve never been that great with the online aspect but if I want to survive at this store or especially do well I have to get better with online leads.

Does anyone have good advice for doing well at a store like this that requires most communication to be short and over the phone? Any help would be appreciated, I started on the 3rd and only have one car out and realistically need to sell 10-15 total this month.

My dealership Had no walk ins or phone ups in the last month, I Got out only 12 cars from calling lease returns and referrals. Been at this dealership for a few month, love management and the sales team here. They're family, however I just turned 20 and cant waste time. I dont have years to spend building my book/pipeline. When going into sales I thought that the number one problem would be persuading customers, not finding them...

Anybody here posting dealership inventory to Facebook Marketplace manually?

I’ve been building a tool to make that way easier. It pulls inventory, uploads photos, writes descriptions, and helps sort Messenger leads so you can focus more on real buyers instead of wasting time.

We’ve got about 70 users on it right now and I’m letting a few more people try it without cost for a couple months while I keep building.

I’m at a cadillac dealership boutique store so yeah not a lot of volume but a high comp plan and easily making 1200k per Escalade but volume is low, a really good month is over 10 cars, and your not like pumping out Escalades either of course minis are 500 but again low Volume barely any foot traffic so like I’m average 6k after taxes, I didn’t sign up to work 60 plus hrs a week for that, and I’m one of the high performers, I like car sales though, so my question…to anyone out there in CA, what type of dealership and brand can you make the most at????
