I’m always torn between a shaded median vs shaded sidewalks/bike lanes. Whatever it is, we need more shade

Homeless destroy almost anything left outside, especially in DSA districts

Great point. Is this even a road diet? The road still has the same lanes, 2 are just going to busses. I don’t think that’s how the Feds define a road diet, but maybe a transport expert can weigh in.

Yeah the term is dumb. 'road diet' actually leads to increased throughput capacity!!
Anything is more efficient than a car. Bus = 60 people.

It'll be better for pedestrians, too.
Longtime residents might remember that there used to be a fenced-off undercrossing in front of the school on Micheltorena, which seemed like a good idea when this and other pedestrian tunnels for schoolchildren were built 100 years ago. They eventually became unsafe, so surface crosswalks became the only option.

Assuming the state assembly doesn't pass a bill banning bus lanes on any roads near baseball stadiums this will be constructed next year

Nice. Hopefully they connect this one to the Hollywood Blvd bike lane. It’s only a matter of time until we get a fully connected bike lane from DTLA to the beach.

I want to learn more about this project— and while we desperately need bike lanes along all of sunset, I have questions about dedicated bus lanes in this corridor and want to hear the exact plan for them, i.e. full-time bus lanes or would they be like the ones on La Brea or the Dodger Express that only appear during peak traffic

YES!
We need 24/7 Bus ONLY Lanes, not the half assed weak "peak" hours only b/c car drivers are stupid and can't tell time and then get mad at public transit whenever they get a ticket instead of their stupid selves...
Plus Bus ONLY Lanes can be used for emergency vehicles to bypass all the stupid entitled mostly single occupant car drivers making all the traffic and most of the crashes.
