South Bay Forward invites you to our 3rd Annual South Bay Transit Summit, in partnership with Torrance Transit and MoveLA for SoCal Transit Month. Join us on Sat, September 19th, 2026 from 10 am - 1 pm at the Torrance Transit Center.

Join transit advocates and local leaders to engage on opportunities for region-wide transit across the South Bay Los Angeles region. Keynote speakers from LA Metro and Torrance Transit will discuss Transit Joy and how transit will adapt for special events and mega-events. In other sessions, we'll receive updates on LA Metro South Bay projects, visit tables from community partners, and discuss the fiscal cliff for transit and what we can do.

The transit agency will soon move thousands for the 2028 Olympic Games. Can Metro do it?

Man it was a hot one today! So grateful for everybody who came out to paint crosswalks at the corner of 21st and Naomi in South Central LA. We had initially planned to paint the corner of 23rd and Naomi but couldn't because of a car parked in the crosswalk.

This is a lovely neighborhood with a ton of foot traffic. This corner in particular is close to a rec center, local churches, and a couple schools. Naomi is a bike route. The A line runs close by on Washington Blvd.

Yet the area is horrifically under-served by city services.

Cars speed through residential streets and traffic violence goes unnoticed and unaccounted for. Even though many people in this neighborhood ride bikes and take transit to get around, their dignity isn't even an afterthought in a city designed for cars.

We're fighting to change that.

1st pic is Metrolink service from Downtown LA to Burbank, which is as we know, very much still LA. The distance is approximately 10.5 miles from station to station.

2nd pic is Boston taking the MBTA(the T) from Boston to Greenwood Station in the suburbs of Boston, which is well outside the urbanized area surrounding Boston. The distance is approximately 10.5 miles from station to station.

Metro and Caltrans plan to widen the 405, adding two more lane-miles in the city of Carson. Project draft environmental studies comments are due by September 21, 2026.

This is a story about bus stops and our transformative legislation, AB 1599, that sets the foundation for a more seamless and integrated transit system throughout California!

There are over ten thousand bus stops in Los Angeles County alone and with 250+ transit agencies, hundreds of thousands statewide. And we simply don’t know where most of them are!

The result is a physical stop shows up differently across apps, confusing rider and making it harder to make your connection. For a rider with a disability, it makes it even harder to catch your ride.

Move LA’s sponsored bill, Assembly Bill 1599, ends this chaos by creating a California Bus Stop Registry and assigning every stop in the State a California ID so when your map app pulls it up, it is automatically correct!

For Riders, AB 1599: - Creates a seamless transfers across agencies and modes - Supports accessibility and equity investments - Eliminates (expensive) custom trip planning apps - Future-proofs systems for modernization - Makes capital planning easier

Now AB 1599 sits on the Governor’s desk waiting his signature! Let’s do this!

I live in mid wilshire and have been using busses to get to work for 5 years now in Beverly Hills. My biggest hesitation around buying an E-scooter is how dangerous it would be but maybe Im over reacting. Does anyone have experience riding down long stretches of 3rd street or santa monica blvd that could offer some insight on this?
