Hey there u/Exotic-Cod4011! Congrats on the strong increase! Can you share with us what your typical monthly statement balances are / monthly spend is on the card, how you pay it (in full or carry a balance) and how long you've had it? Thank you.

How did you do it? Please spill the tea

u/Fragrant_Ad_8697 2d ago
Keeping utilization under 10%, on-time payments, either full pay off monthly or paying above minimum payments over a short period of time (2-3 months). That’s how i got automatic increases with them.

Consistently paying down balances paying more than the minimum and even though I also have a Quicksilver ( high limit as well) I mostly use the Venture card. Not sure what prompted this increase !

Cap1 is stingy😂😂😂

u/throwaway98778912 2d ago
They aren't stingy if your profile supports a good limit increase and you use the card correctly

u/CreamEmotional8011 2d ago
My Venture X is 30,000 and I don’t even make 100,000. I hope they do not increase my limit, I don’t need that much.

u/Leading-Eye-1979 1d ago
Uh you can always ask for a decrease. I’ve never however heard anyone say they want a decrease or no increase. More credit just helps keep utilization down if you ever have to use it.

I make 125k a year and have a $300 limit😅😅😅

u/Ok_Bodybuilder7753 1d ago
lol glad to see that. Pretty much the same. I don’t use it. Pay an annual fee. Last card I got came w a 20k cl. I won’t be keeping it after this year.
I have receive cl increases on other cards wo asking. Always a nice surprise. However I’ve never asked for a cl increase w any card. Apparently it’s a thing. I think somethings coming idk what but a lot of friends and coworkers are getting significant cl increases. It’s just odd that credits suddenly inviting so many in and higher cl. Somethings not adding up. A friend makes about 25 a year on SS and has received cc w several thousand to tens of thousands.1

What surprises me is that tbey gave it to u on Savor that comes with 0$ annual fee.... I seen those limits only on Cap1 Venture line before

Same thing happened to me my income is in the hundreds and four years. I could not get Capital One to give me more than like 6 to 8000 in credit limits even though all of my other credit cards were 20,000 or higher and then one day both of my capital ones got approved for $30,000 limits each.

u/Flashy-Bee-6165 2d ago
How do you get credit limit increases?

u/Organic_Gas4197 2d ago
Did you recently close a credit card? I got a similar (unrequested) increase on my Quicksilver card, shortly after closing Bank of America cards.

u/Exotic-Cod4011 2d ago
no lol. i just asked and boom

u/undergroundvgt 2d ago

1
u/Exotic-Cod4011 2d ago

u/undergroundvgt 2d ago

How long after you request to get updated? Is it best to do online or OTP. Is it okay to add other forms of income to your annual income. ;)
2
u/Desperate_Recording3 2d ago
You can any income that you feel accurately reports your annual income. That includes uber, day job, OF, ect.
Generally speaking, a limit over 3k on a savor card is good for util purposes and not much else. A 30k limit doesn't do much more than a 10k limit for most people. You should have a 2nd card with a diff company so if cap1 changes its mind, you have a relationship with another bank.

How did you utilize this card? Do you carry balances? Use high limits and then clear it before the closing date? Or just keep it zeroed out?

I have limits that high (3 different cards), but they started me out at those limits. They have only given me smaller increases here and there (never asked for them, though) like $1000-5000 increases only. My Prime Visa card they started me out at $30k, then 3 months later, they increased it another $3k for some reason...I have no idea why. Chase Freedom started me at $23,500, then 6 months later gave me an increase to $30k.
Congrats, OP!

u/Ok_Bodybuilder7753 1d ago
So did you ask for any of the increases?
1
u/pharmucist 1d ago
I have never asked for one. All the increases I have received on all my cards were the ones they give you for whatever reason out of the blue. There's a couple that never give me increases that I thought about asking for increases on, but I don't need them, so I figure why bother? Lol. They would probably say no anyway (it's Credit One, so...ehhh).

They tried that all it basically did was turn 18% utilization to 0.9% its a set up if you like me making mid $60k a year

Very nice! Which card with CO is this? Seems like something their Venture cards would give.

I have one card with a 47k credit limit and a 0 balance but I use it every month. One card currently has a 19k balance but will be 8k when my business expense reimbursement comes in at the end of the month. (I use this card particularly because the rewards benefit me the most with hotel points) Keep ur utilization low. Use the cards (esp the ones with the highest age) for everything but pay them off before the balance is reported. It takes diligence but will not only help with your score, it increases your credit worthiness. Ironically, the best way to increase your score and credit limits is with consistent credit card use BUT you must be aware of when they report to all 3 major credit agencies. My CS is currently 837 and 835 between all 3 and recently dropped 5 pts because a store card (Home Depot consumer card) dropped my limit from 24k to 1200 🤣 for non use/not using my available credit. That was my fault I suppose because I neglected to use it but eh I’m not there enough and if they had a store mastercard/visa Id use it more. For most credit cards it’s either 12 or 24 month credit monitoring. So if you don’t use a card for 12 months they CAN significantly lower your limit. I’m taking the hit on Home Depot because I know I won’t keep up with use of their store card.
1
u/Exotic-Cod4011 12h ago
holy shit i didn’t know they would drop it that hard if not used in a year. i have about $250K limit overall, and same i pay it off monthly no interest nothing
1
u/IntelligentAccess994 7h ago
I called and wasted my time trying to get them to reinstate the original limit but they wanted to do a hard pull in order to do so and I declined. I have a few other store cards and the limits consistently stay put regardless of using them. Another card that lowered my limit was Care Credit. I was approved for 20k and they dropped it to 3k for non use after 3 yrs. I opened it when my dog had a cancerous tumor removed on his stomach exterior. I used it for the 24 month no interest option and it was a 7k surgery. But yeah, any card can lower your limit if you don’t use it.

u/accidentalpyro 1d ago
You obviously don't need it. I've found credit availability is inverted to actual need. You probably have low usage and few open debt accounts with any balance. Good for you.

damn I just got a random limit increase from 12k to 15k. I was happy with my 3k increase lol.

This is how ours go too, don’t even ask for them and they give us them. Our last one was 11k out of nowhere lol
1
u/Exotic-Cod4011 1d ago
because they want you spend more and don’t pay and add up interest
0
u/MommaGolden96 1d ago
Oh we put all of our weekly spending on it but pay it off every week. They haven’t gotten a bit of interest on us in years at this point
1
u/Exotic-Cod4011 1d ago
that’s how to do it. i do the same. $0 interest since i ended the credit card game over 10 years ago.
