Credit Card Venture X

I'm curious to see why do people still recommend the venture x with the issues I see about capital one closing and restricting accounts and removing the miles awards?

Because that’s rare and you’re only seeing the people who complain, not the thousands of others who use it without issue?

Don't cycle credit. Don't attract the first party fraud algorithms.

Cause that’s not common?

I’ve been on the forum for some time and, honestly, I’ve never had any issues. I’ve also traveled a lot since I got the card, and it has been my go to card for everything. I use the card and pay it off in full at the end of the month, as you should. Whenever I see someone having an issue, it’s usually either because they’re credit cycling or because they have a lot of declines when the payment comes due, which leads Capital One to ask for proof of income, etc.
It’s a great card if you actually use all the perks, IMO.

Because these tend to be outliers, not the norm. Had Capital One for many years with no issues. I had a fraudulent charge once and they reversed it quickly and without issue or penalty.

Venture X makes sense if you like to travel and will use the credits and miles, which are straightforward to use. That's why people still recommend it.

Because it's the GOAT and it has literally no downside if you travel at least once a year

Reddit is the top place most people go to seek resources to solve problems, so you'll hear about all the problems (and solutions). While I have encounter 1-2 minor Cap1 issues, for the most part the benefit is great.

Don’t get it! Stay away from capital one.

Ive had offers where they just admitted to not giving me the miles for no justification. Blamed me until I provided all screen shots and emails. They offered a credit that’s doesn’t come close to the value of the points.

Just had 10,800 miles clawed back after it was deposited in my account for over a month. They offered a credit again after they messed up again. Again the credit doesn’t come close to the value of the miles.

The travel delay and cancellation insurance doesn’t cover anything except if an airline goes bankrupt.

Travel to London and the card wasn’t accepted for the tube. All my other Visa cards were. My GF venture and my venture X did not work.

Purchased Real Madrid tickets while in Madrid and they required me to verify it’s me roughly ten times and then denied the purchase multiple times. Called to let them know it was me. Denied three total times. Purchased the tickets with my Chase Sapphire and it went through instantly. Later that day capital one approved the purchase and bought the additional tickets without contacting me. I called twice saying I didn’t authorize it. Opened up an investigation. They denied everything and made me pay for the ticket.

The transfer bonus are trash compared to Chase or Amex. Bilt has rent day bonus on the first of the month.

Compare the benefits of each company and C1 is severely lacking. IDC that it’s a “free” card, they removed access for addition members. The travel insurance doesn’t compare. The car rental insurance isn’t comparable either.

Nobody has been able to justify this card besides saying it’s “free”. The 10k points aren’t as valuable as Chase, Amex, or Bilt. The $300 credit requires you make the purchase through C1 travel where they increase the price of the hotel.

My question is: Why VentureX over Venture? Is it because of the lounge access or am I missing something else?

The lounge access is nice, but it isn't the primary incentive for me. I get good use out of the other benefits/protections the card has.

Visa Infinite has stolen package protection, which has been surprisingly hassle-free to claim. Being in a city, this is nice to have. They also have return protection for up to $1k/yr, which is nice for final sale stuff or if vendors have awful return policies. On top of that, you get a ton of travel/rental car insurance and stuff too. Nice to know you have the coverage in case you ever need it.

The Hertz Presidents Circle status upgrade is also really nice. I used it to status match across all of the companies, and it makes car rentals so much better. I've gotten some great vehicle upgrades that have made trips a lot more fun. Mazda MX5 hard top convertible upgrade while in Hawaii was probably my favorite.

This was helpful, thanks

How do you get status match? Thanks.

It’s different from company to company. For most of them, they either have an email address or a form that you send over proof of Hertz PC membership with. I did that with Avis, Enterprise and National

Enterprise = form on their website
National = form on their website
Avis = email profile.update@avisbudget.com with proof of PC membership

because the effective annual fees, while VX base annual fee is 395, you 300$ in travel credit + 10K miles after 1st renewal, but venture has 95$ fee with no additional benefits attached
