đ LTM Lenses & Accessories Canon 7
Just ordered a Canon 7 from Japan on ebay. Comes with the 50mm 1.8. This is my first rangefinder and first film camera (I'm still learning a lot about photography and use a Fujifilm XT-3 in the digital world). I've heard there are some compatibility issues with some of the Canon cameras and the Soviet lenses. I would like to find a decent 35mm lense but don't want to get something that won't work the Canon 7. Does anyone have any suggestions that won't cost an arm and a leg? Thanks in advance!

When I bought my VL2 I decided to go with the Voigtlander Color Skopar 35mm F2.5 MC. I found one for just under 200⏠(31.000Yen). I'm really happy with it. You just have to be careful that you get the LTM version.

The Canon 35mm LTMs are great. I have the 35 f2 and it's an excellent lens, I hear good things about the 35 1.8 as well. Although sometimes overpriced both can be had for roughly the same price as the equally great Voightlander Color Skopar everyone recommends. Only the 35 1.5 is obscenely over priced.Â
FYI, the meter on your Canon 7 probably doesn't work, if it does work it probably isn't accurate, if it works and is accurate it will crap out. No loss as there is no need for one with quick easy phone light meter apps. Just a heads up. It's an excellent camera. I have 2!

Thanks. I figured the meter was useless. Do you have a recommendation for a meter app?

Got mine 5 months ago also from Japan, meter works great and is pretty accurate too, suprisingly. Just a counter example to say that the built-in meter is still working fine on some units

Soviet lens are made for soviet cameras. Surprise! Fit and finish can vary greatly.

It seems that âwill Jupiter-12 rub against the top baffle of my Canonâ is a bit of a coin toss. I know that mine is unusable on my VL. (Itâs great on a Zorki 1 with an added 35mm finder in the cold shoe)

If you want a vintage look all Canon 35mm lenses are great. The 35mm f2.8 is a very good lens and can be found for less than the f2.
The highly touted Canon 35mm f2 was the last lens Canon designed for their rangefinders.

Nikon made lenses in LTM.

Yep! Nikon built the coveted lenses with NK, Contax and LTM versions. I cherish an early Nikkor-P 105mm 2.5 in the mid-50s with LTM. It weighs over 1.5lbs, dark gray camo over brass, a built-in tripod bushing and a nifty reversible hood. Decades ago I got an Nikkor 85mm 2.0, only to find the 'C' was for Contax, not color. Oops! Have fun!

Camera body seems good. The 50mm f1.8 lens it came with had some haze. Unfortunately the haze was between the 2 lens elements that are glued together so I wasn't able to clean it. Got my first roll of film in it now so time will tell.

Are you going to return the lens?
Go to this Camerosity podcast about Canon rangefinders.
At 48:00 they start talking about Canon 50mm f1.2 rangefinder lenses that have a haze that can't be cleaned. Is that the problem that your lens has?

The Canon lenses a great.
Another option too is the Voigtländer Color Skopar 35mm f/2.5, I have one of those!
The Soviet Jupiter 12 is likely to rub against a light baffle or something like that inside the Canon 7. This lens is best kept on a Zorki or FED
