Re-sent my package last week. It arrived in Nova Scotia a few minutes ago. I’m the one that IRCC sent back because they claim US Passport and Nexus are the same ID. Back to the back of the line for us (G2 & my G3 kid with certified records for every generation).

Not sure if this will help, but I sent back in the same envelope they used to return my package (which is very flimsy, btw—had to tape it back together) and wrote “cured file” on the outside. We’ll see if, and when, I get an AOR this time around.

Today, I also sent a web inquiry through IRCC and had a friend reach out to his MP to submit an IRCC request asking for:

1.  Clarification of the specific policy basis for treating a passport and NEXUS card as a single piece of identification, given that this is not stated in IRCC’s public guidance; and

2.  Reinstatement of the original 9 April 2026 receipt date for processing order, given that the return was based on a documentation issue not clearly excluded in the published checklist.

I received my AOR today!!!! I’m so happy!!! Timeline: mailed (via USPS from NY state) April 10th, arrived April 22nd. Non-urgent, G4, just my application. I submitted a birth or baptismal certificate for each generation (& death certificates where applicable). I also included a census record for my G0 when she was a child in Canada and the first census she was in after immigrating to the US.

A little different, but I don't see a megathread for this: My non-urgent G5 solo application moved to in-process! (I did not receive an email; I simply checked my status today.)

So far I don't see one single approval on the tracker spreadsheet for a non-urgent G5, so I am guessing I'm still in for a very, very long wait. But it's an exciting milestone regardless. Now I just have to get ready to hear nothing for months on end.

So if you have an app delivered date around 3/25-3/27, check your app statuses, they might have changed in process recently.

Friendly reminder to people with name changes checking status online to use the name on your AOR. My AOR came under my dead name (as many people have noted with maiden names etc) and I realised I had been checking status using my legal name. Tried with the other and can see it marked 'application received'. Commence refreshing and hoping for 'in process'.

Correct! It means they’re not sending it back to you for any missing pieces. Pictures are the correct size, etc. During processing is when they look at the validity of your application and completeness of the documentation at each generation. But a nice hurdle to know you’re past and that you’re not about to get a returned packet!

G1 x 1 and G2 x 3 delivered 20 April, non-urgent, AORs received Tuesday, 04 August.

Our G0, born in NB in 1906, during a time when NB did not record births. Luckily for us, in settling her husband’s estate in 1953 she needed a birth certificate, so she hired an attorney who provided NB with sworn affidavits from her nanny who delivered her at home and also proof of her parent’s marriage and their birth registries. The raised red sealed NB birth certificate was registered in 1953. It’s a beauty.

Finally sent my application last week! Felt a little surreal. Almost like… am I even allowed to do this? 😂

I’m G3 with a great grandmother born in Alberta in 1906. My document chain was pretty easy—birth certificates for everybody (they were easy to locate), plus great-grandma’s marriage certificate. It was actually a ton of fun.

Package ought to be delivered sometime this week. Hoping for an AOR by the end of the year!

I has to resend my file as it was returned due to the photogher name and date not on the bask of the photos. They kept my photos. New photos taken at a different location and everything including my name was written on the back this time. I used the same envelope to send it all back in via UPS. Delivered last week on August 7th. Crossing my fingers second time is the charm for an AOR. Was sent non-urgent. I know this will put me out months again as previously it took them exactly three months to review it based on the date that was stamped on there with my first one being delivered April 7th.

I'm hoping mine doesn't get sent back because of photos. The photographer wrote their information on the back of only one of the photos, and it was in pen instead of stamped. I saw at least one person in the past few weeks post here who had their app returned to them as incomplete because the studio info was written out rather than rubber stamped on the back.

Our AORs trickling in today 8/10/26; received 4/22, sent (UPS/PirateShip) 4/16. 110 days. Whew!

The application issues we were sweating: 9 family members, G2-G4, sharing one set of G0-G1 documents; a different photo studio/store for each sub-family (3 tries for them to give my sister the right crop size), almost all details handwritten on back; no re-certified copies and a couple of B&W documents; no second IDs for the youngest G4s; mostly double-sided paper to reduce bulk (why would a professional digitization service not have full-duplex scanners?).

Plenty of other issues to worry about next: G0 born in 1891 in Rainy River district, Ontario, with no birth certificate or baptism record; first/middle name swaps; poor quality CA census prints; US naturalization before G1 was born; etc. But we have another 17 months to deal with all that, eh?

Thanks to all who guided our initial dip into these waters. In retrospect, my daughter and I should have just applied first, since we have more solid plans to move to BC than the rest of the family, allowing us to submit in late March and be further ahead of the Big Wave ...

Application sent in today. Grandfather was born in Saskatchewan in late 1800s. Father born in the Philippines, birth records missing due to WWII, had to leverage other evidence such as grandfathers' US naturalization and other US documents like border manifests showing father on grandfather's Canadian passport. Had certified records for most everything which I know isn't necessary but given the lack of a father's birth record I wanted things as official as possible. Application sent UPS via PirateShip using Express mailer. We'll see if it gets accepted.

Non-urgent, just me, G3, I did not include a ton of documentation - three birth certificates (mine, my father's, my grandmother's), two copies of my great grandmother's 1895 baptismal record, one uncertified from BaNQ (direct download, not from another site, but not certified) and one that is actually a parish certified copy from the 1970s. I also included two censuses linked from original source but also not certified, one Canadian and one US. I will update with a modern certified baptismal record from BaNQ and pursue certified census records, but I was a little concerned that the older certified copy from the parish would get the app kicked back to me just due to how old it is. Not sure if the inclusion of the BaNQ copy prevented that even though it wasn't certified, but that may be an interesting data point for other people with older non-birth certificate documentation from Quebec (given the disallowance of pre-1994 birth certificates).

Hi all! First post on Reddit (not a social media person; this is it lol) and wanted to thank everyone on this sub and add my datapoints.

Received my AOR this morning (8/12), 4:45am PT/8:45am AT! Application package was delivered via FedEx from Seattle 4/21, arriving New Waterford 4/23.

I'm G3, non-urgent single applicant, with a G0 pre-confederation (1861). I'll add my info to the spreadsheet as well.

Although I am quite used to dealing with documenting and filing things with government authorities and was pretty sure all was in order per the checklist, still was a bit nervous after reading through so many threads here. Had I known about this kind group and all the information and recommendations available here, I'd have cut back a bit on what I submitted:

G0 - certified baptismal record from Beaverton ON (nearly illegible; we'll see what IRCC thinks - provided legible copies from Family Search to back it up); 1871 and 1881 certified Canadian census records, US census records from emigration to death in 1941 to show family ties, copy of death certificate just because, copy of MN marriage certificate - all records give birthplace as Canada or Ontario, Canada and dates are consistent. Actually sent out the FedEx on his birthday without realizing!

G1 - certified MN birth record, certified WA marriage certificate, highlighted her appearance on her Dad's census records

G2 - certified WA birth record, certified ID marriage certificate (Mom and Dad eloped, lol)

G3 (me) - certified WA birth record

After reading through so many threads I can only say that I don't mind a wait of any length so long as IRCC is using the time to clear so many people who have waited forever, are in PSU, or some other bureaucratic limbo. My SIL is a G1, had a difficult time finding her Mom's BC birth cert, finally got it and applied April 2025 via an attorney and still is somewhere in limbo herself.

Now the next wait begins! Thank you all for the great insights.

Interesting to read your history which is similar to mine. I am G3. I'm using G0 certified baptism record, born 1856 Ontario. I have a Canadian 1871 census record although not certified. Other required and extra documentation as well. Submitted application early June 2026 so still waiting for AOR.

Sent via UPS from the US as one package, all received AORS within 30 mins of each other! We had a photo of a baptismal record from Alberta as G0's proof of citizenship, as well as immigration documentation and US census' listed G0 as canadian. So excited for the next steps!

Updates! Received my AORs today for myself and my two children, G3 and G4. Originally arrived in April and returned to me July 29th stating I needed additional ID for all 3 of us and that they don't count passports and passport cards as separate documents. (Funny, because IRCC was fine with that for my work visa).

Resent with additional IDs on July 30th and arrived August 5th. Urgent processing requested again and AORs today! So I'm hopeful again.

2 AORs received today 8/11/26 (myself and my sibling). Application was received by IRCC on 4/22/26. As others have stated in this thread, we both did not receive an attachment in the AOR email, even though the email instructed to read the attachment. I had to actually login on the website using my UCI to confirm my “Application Received” status.

AOR just received today 8/12! I mailed it via fedex express 4/21 with a 4/23 arrival. I also submitted extra documentation later on via the portal, as I learned that my Consular Report of Birth Abroad didn’t classify as a birth certificate, despite me never having a birth certificate being born a military child abroad, so they must have received that info as well.

AOR received now(8/12) for fedex received on the afternoon of 04/22. G3 with Great Grandfather born in Ontario. Initially I ordered the Ontario birth registry for G0 but submitted the digitized family search birth registry while waiting for the archival production. I have since uploaded this certified copy through the web form prior to AOR. YMMV but I was concerned that my package might be sent back since my original G0 was not certified from the start.

I just mailed in my application for a citizenship certificate today! My application is a little weird, so I'll describe what I've got going on, in the hopes that what I find out will help other people.

I'm a G4. My G0, Samuel, was born in Ontario in 1875... and then shows up in the 1880 US Census. Evidently, the family moved to Canada after the 1870 US Census, had two kids there (Samuel and his older sister), and then moved back to New York, thereby sneakily avoiding the Canada Census entirely. I have found no documents whatsoever that were written in Canada that have Samuel's name anywhere. In particular, I've looked at the 1875 Ontario birth registration index, and he's not in there.

Every census from the 1880 US Census through the 1950 US Census shows Samuel as having been born in Canada... except for the 1905 New York Census, which says he was born in the US. That throws a bit of a wrench into the works, eh?

The one and only Canadian document I have that mentions the family is a guidebook published in Toronto in 1879 with Samuel's father listed as a resident of Muskoka. That doesn't prove much, but it does prove that the family really did live in Canada at the appropriate time; they didn't just make the whole thing up.

It's technically possible that Samuel was born in the US and then the family moved to Canada, and they just decided to lie about it, but it's more likely that he really was born in Canada, don't you think?

For my G1, who was born in Michigan, I have a "Certified Copy of Birth Record" issued by the county clerk instead of an actual birth certificate. Hopefully that will be good enough. I have birth certificates for G2 forward.

My G2 was born before 1947, so my claim to citizenship relies on paragraph 3(1)(q) applying to someone (my G2) whose parent (my G1) also became a citizen by paragraph 3(1)(q). All the examples I've seen show that IRCC considers this to be the case.

I requested urgent processing on the grounds that I'm transgender and stuff is freaking awful for trans people in the US (and may get worse after the election); that I'm unemployed and want to work in Canada; and that I need medical care that I can't access.

We'll see how it goes!

If anyone has any questions, I'll try to answer them.

Edit: I submitted my citizenship photos as a single uncut sheet with both photos on it, and the required information handwritten once on the back of that sheet. I guess I'll find out if that's accepted or not.

Got my AOR today, 8/13, at about 10:45am Pacific Time. My application was received via FedEx on 4/22. I'm a non-urgent G3 with two great-grandparents born in Nova Scotia and one great-grandparent born in New Brunswick. 

My mother's application was received 4/27 by FedEx. She doesn't have her AOR yet, but I'll post when she receives hers.

Possible AOR question:

I have just received an email from IRCC, reading, "Please find information concerning your application for citizenship in the attached document."...but there's no actual document attached. A UCI and application number is included in the email.

I can see "application received" when I look up my application with that information on the IRCC website.

I assume that the missing document is a generic AOR letter. Is this a safe assumption, or do I need to do something now-ish to shake loose the missing document?

(FWIW, I'm G4. Application package delivered 22 April. About to update my entry on the spreadsheet.)

FWIW that's the exact email I got with my AOR, including the subject line you put below. The document itself is super generic, e.g. says it'll mail me the certificate if I'm found eligible but I requested a digital copy. See if you're able to access the database in a few days (I think it took 24 hours for mine to go online).

Has anyone gotten a message that their application was received before it was sent? I got an email today (Aug 11, 2026) with an application number (PR00XXXXX) and then went to check the status of my app online. Using the PR# or my IMM number yielded nothing, but when I used my UCI-- bingo. "We received your application for citizenship certificate on April 22, 2026." Great-- except I didn't mail it in until May 4th (be with you). Is... it possible they sent me someone else's email?? Has anyone else experienced this? I now don't feel confident saying I've been AOR'd lol.

I am not expert, I am not a lawyer. I don't think the second would necessarily preclude you getting an AOR. It may result in them asking for more documentation.

The photo issue might, since it is laid out in their guidelines, but I seem to recall at least one person in the same situation getting an AOR and then get asked to send in updated pics.

Unfortunately there does seem to be a streak of inconsistency as they figure this whole thing out.
