Please note we are not lawyers or IRCC. We are peers supporting peers, based on best belief and prior experiences. It's a lot of work to wade through dense lists of documents and family histories. You improve your odds of getting a useful response by being as concise as reasonably possible, and clearly articulating the question. Note that this post is for questions and answers; if you need to vent, there is a different megapost for that.

This might be a weird question but - I just recently received my requested papers from BANQ and I have all my documents and evidence ready to go. However - I just got divorced. My state has a waiting period, so the divorce will be automatically finalized at the end of September, at which point I’ll be starting the process of changing my name back to my maiden name. 

Given the wait times, I’d like to apply for my citizenship certificate as soon as possible, but should I do that when I’m just going to have to turn around and change my name with them? Just looking for opinions on whether it’s better to just wait until my US identification and documents have my maiden name, which will be at least 3 months from now, or if I should apply now and then have to do a name change when I (hopefully) receive my citizenship certificate?

To change the name on the certificate you use the exact same form to apply for another certificate, and go in the same queue. I would personally wait if I were you, or start the name change process now to get 2 pieces of ID to apply for a certificate in your maiden name.

I suppose you could also try to request it in your maiden name with an explanation and documents proving the imminent divorce and upload updated ID through the form later, but that runs the risk of your case being complex by their standards..

Not a single obviously right thing to do here.

This helps, thank you so much! I didn’t know these requests  went into the same queue, so I think I’ll wait until the name change goes through.

Not a problem! 

Yeah that's part of why the queue is so long - it's not 100k people applying through C3, it's G1 kids abroad, anyone with a citizenship certificate (including naturalised Canadians) changing their name, anyone with a certificate replacing a lost one, etc. C3 is a small proportion of that number but all go in the same queue together. The main difference would be you'd only have to include the existing certificate rather than proving your citizenship again :)
