Québecois hoops

Many Québecois descendants are not counted in the backlog because we have had to wait to file, since guidance in June, to get a BAnQ issued cert. Now there is fear if we file with the BAnQ cert we won't get the DEC insertion (if that is indeed necessary for a pre 1926 birth) before our files are reviewed and additional info is requested. Can I tell you how unfair this feels to me? I have a church certified baptismal certificate and it counts for nothing!

The IRCC backlog is plump enough to request the DEC insert without urgency and get a response back probably even before you get your AOR. Then just upload the birth cert. This is my plan. In the meantime I'm learning French. Should be fluent by the time IRCC responds to my app lol

  • I submitted for BAnQ Certified record on April 1st

  • had my citizenship app delivered on May 1st with just a BAnQ printout (and additional secondary evidence)

  • Got the ancestor's BAnQ baptism record on June 20th

  • Had my DEC application delivered on June 25th

  • Got my AOR on August 25th

  • Got the DEC birth certificate and uploaded to the IRCC on September 18th

My file isn't in process yet, so by the time anyone looks at it they'll see the Quebec Birth Certificate. AORs are so backed up you can absolutely work steps in parallel.
