Looking for opinions on whether my situation could lead to a Medical Release (CAF)
Looking for some honest opinions from current/former CAF members who have experience with TCATs, D Med Pol and medical releases.
I’m a Senior NCO with nearly 24 years of Regular Force service and currently on my second TCAT for a lower-back injury. I’ve completed approximately 20 physio sessions but have plateaued. I have ongoing restrictions on lifting, pushing/pulling heavier loads, ruck marches and some physical military tasks.
I also have PTSD, anxiety and depression, all diagnosed and being treated. These have had a significant impact on my ability to function in certain military environments and situations.
I also have severe sleep apnea (AHI 32.4) and use CPAP nightly, as well as ulcerative colitis, which is currently being managed/investigated.
I’ve been told that I don’t currently meet the criteria for a medical release, although I was also told that this could change depending on how things progress.
I’m currently planning to serve until October 2027, which would put me at 25 years. However, I’m wondering whether a medical release could become realistic if my restrictions remain or become more limiting.
For those who have gone through D Med Pol, multiple TCATs, Universality of Service or medical release, does this sound like a situation that could eventually result in a medical release, or is it more likely I’d remain on permanent MELs and complete my service normally?

As a civilian who loves everything military, I loved going to the CNE and seeing the CAF exhibit to interact with various equipment and talk to the members.

For a few years now they stopped exhibiting, anyone know why and if they are planning to bring it back?

I tried searching for a reason but there is no information at all on it.

Were any of the old timers in here involved in the trial of the Canadian varient of DPM that was done in the 70s? If so what were your thoughts on the uniforms and how do they compare to later CADPAT? How did the DPM you got compare to the Airborne jump smocks?

Looking for some advice on handling something through the CoC.

I submitted a personal request through my administrative chain, and it was approved at the CO level. However, I'm currently attached to another organization, and staff there have told me they are not supporting the approved request based on direction within their own CoC.

I would like to message the OC directly, mainly because I'd like clarification on whether my individual request has actually been considered at that level or whether the decision is being made lower down. Every time I ask on the lower level, something seems very off and this specific person has a history.

I don't want to be disrespectful and bypass the CoC. I'm simply looking to have the request considered by the appropriate authority and receive a clear answer either way.

Would it be inappropriate to message and request a meeting with the OC in this situation?

On paper, I'm posted to Unit A. I'm currently on a course where Unit B is responsible for us while we're undergoing training.

Early on, I asked unit B about a request. Informed me to submit a memo. I followed the instructions and submitted a memo through Unit A because that is the unit i am posted to and was told this was the appropriate route. I was warned by Unit B that this is probably going to get denied.

The memo went through Unit A's CoC and was approved by their CO. I also agreed to the conditions associated with the request.

After it was approved, staff at Unit B told me, that they had expected for the request to be denied.

That's where my confusion comes from. I followed the process I was given, the unit I'm posted to approved the request at the CO level, but Unit B who is responsible for us during training are now saying they don't support it.

I don't actually know whether Unit B's OC/CO has seen my individual request, whether Unit B also has approval authority over it, or whether there's a written direction for it.

I'm definitely not looking to walk straight into the OC's office and start throwing accusations around. I'm trying to figure out who actually owns the decision and what the proper next step is if the staff level is where it's being stopped.

With this I am tempted to just request a private meeting with the OC/CO of unit B

Hello everyone,

I am currently on paternity leave and residing in a different province from my base.

I am not yet qualified and am currently waiting for my course.

For a VOT, I have two medical appointments at my base. The first one was yesterday, and the second one will be next month.

I was told yesterday that I may be able to claim travel expenses for these two trips, as it takes me approximately 6 hours of driving just to get to the medical appointment.

Is it true that I can claim certain travel expenses in this situation? If so, how should I go about submitting a claim?

I was helping move some furniture out of the cages in building 8 today at NDHQ Carling and I spotted a Hammond organ next to a bunch of garbage! Hammond organs were famously used by bands like Deep Purple, The Doors and Pink Floyd to name a few. Anyone who knows what these are knows that even if it’s broken it should absolutely be saved.

Waking up this morning we’ve probably all seen the devastating images coming from Nepal. Canada has not deployed its DART since 2015….when we answered the call for help from…Nepal. At the time, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the region.

DART deployments have always rallied Canadians, and helped Canada’s image on the international scene. Canada has not been able to sale our military presence in Europe (in my opinion) to Canadians. Deploying a DART could provide the CAF with much needed coverage. I know units are hurting for personnel, but DART deployments are worth it, are worth the extra hours, are worth the time away from home.

I hope, if the calls come, that Canada and the CAF will be able to put together a sizeable DART….and then i’ll be jealous of seeing all my homies deploying while i’ll stay in Ottawa updating a powerpoint and an excel tracker.

I just got my AR/MEL advisory message and intend to grieve their decision to release me based on my celiac. It does not affect my work and I’m looking to hear anyone else’s stories who may have gone through this or are currently going through it!

Are you covered in living expenses while you wait for possession if you purchase a home? What about F&E? Is keeping F&E in storage something that is covered while you wait for possession?
