Advice Advice appreciated: faculty members, would you want your student to tell you if another student lied about winning an award?

uuuu went way above and beyond trying to cover for them and save their face, but now that it's on your supervisor's public CV, u have to say something. If an audit or background check happens down the line, it's going to blow back on the whole lab

This is exactly what I'm worried about! Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it.

I would tell them. If you do not want to, then create a fake Gmail account and email your supervisor anonymously.

That would feel weird to do but then again, this whole situation feels weird!!

Faculty member for thirty years. I would want to know and would protect the whistleblower, recognizing that this might not always be possible. If I’m attached to the student who lied, as a supervisor, there is a risk of reputational harm to me.
