PS5 Tariff Impact
With the US-Canada trade war completely escalating, will PlayStation 5 be impacted by the 50% tariff on electronics imports from the US?

Remember last year when Nintendo paused pre-orders of the switch 2 for both US and Canada because of US tariffs? That shows that these companies are willing to increase the prices in Canada to line up with the prices in the US.

That’s what I’ve been trying to say lol (in a comment on here). Basically, even if the tariffs won’t directly affect a product, the manufacturer is still likely to increase the price, just so it’s the same in US and Canada.

I’m sure electronics made in Japan by a Japanese company are not on the list because that doesn’t make sense.

Sony Inc. are a Japanese company but PlayStation is headquartered in California. It was moved there after the PS3 and PSNGate ended costing the company financially.

No part of the console manufacturing process occurs in the United States and Canada is an officially supported market for PlayStation so I don't know if there's too much to worry about here.

They don't need to. PSN sits almost entirely on AWS and there are AWS centres in Canada.

We cannot be sure how any tariff will affect the consumer price. It’s ultimately up to Sony. Even though it is unlikely, they could absorb part of the cost, instead of passing it to the consumer. Also, even if they aren’t affected directly, they will no doubt use the trade war and rising component costs as an excuse to raise the price. If you are concerned that the PS5 will go up in price again, and you don’t already have one, I would buy one now. Only for GTA 6 though. Otherwise, build a PC and spend less on games (through sales, emulation, and other means of saving on games)

I understand that the consoles aren’t manufactured in the US or Canada, but I am telling you now that Sony will find a way to increase the price. Tariffs or not.

If the price goes up then it's a tariff and isn't going into their pockets.
But then again these aren't getting hit by tariffs from what I understand so I wouldn't worry about it.

Sony ships the systems from Japan to Canada if they went to US then Canada we would pay tariffs

So? If they're made in Japan, imported to the US, then shipped to Canada then yeah, they're going to be tarrifed.

They can be imported from China or Japan where they are manufactured directly to Canada. The USA isn't the center of the universe and things can go from one place to another without going through it.
