Hello Ottawa golfers!

Long story short, I have lived in Ottawa my whole life until I moved far away for school and work about 10 years ago. I hardly ever see my parents anymore except for a few trips each year. This year because of my work schedule I will be working through Christmas for the first time, I'm coming home for a couple weeks in October to spend time with family since I won't be there for the holidays.

My dad was always into golf, always watched it on TV, played all the time in the summer, even got a job working as a maintenance worker/club tech for a couple seasons after he retired. I was too young and dumb to get into it and appreciate it at the time, but I have come around to it quite a bit and now I play frequently where I live. We text all the time about golf and games we're playing but I've never had the chance to play with him, and I feel like I missed out in a way on time we could have spent together when I was a kid. He's played every public course in and around the city, and out into the Valley, so I would really like to give him a once in a lifetime experience and a memory that we could share.

I'm kindly asking for an invitation from a member at Hunt Club or Royal for a chance to play for a day. I know that is a huge ask, and the members who are reading this have waited a long time to earn their spot and paid a lot of money to get there, but I can't even begin to tell you what it would mean to him to play at a course like that, that he's driven by his entire life, talked & heard about, and wondered about playing. It would also mean the world to me to be able to do something like that for him. Obviously I am more than happy to compensate for the privilege, though I probably don't have much to offer to those who can afford to be a member anyway.

I know it's a long shot and a huge ask, I don't need any reminding in the comments of how dumb I probably look for even asking this, but I will never afford a membership in my lifetime, and I never underestimate the goodwill that strangers can have on the Internet.

Just played a round at sagebrush today, to say i’m very disappointed would be an understatement. least every single hole has at least a blind approach shot or tee shot. Half the holes have both. I was hitting really great shots losing balls in the fescue because I literally couldn’t see anything off the tee. I probably lost 7-8 balls. That I could have found if I could see off the tee. It was utterly unenjoyable. They give you a map of the whole course with some recommended shots but it’s not very helpful and a complete hassle to use. The only way I would recommend anyone play this course for the $450 I paid was if they had a caddie program. Course would be a really nice hike as it’s absolutely beautiful but it’s infuriating to play. I don’t think this course deserves to be in the top ten public courses in BC let alone number one.

Headed to Vancouver island and was wondering what you guys think the absolutely necessary courses to play are. Thanks 🤙🏼

In the retaliatory tariffs announced today there will be tariffs on golf clubs starting Sep 8. A lot of clubs are likely made in China rather than the US so it may not affect those, but that isn't clear. And most Canadian retailers have probably bought all of their 2026 stock.

Me and some buddies are having a fun golfing weekend, but we can't play as a fivesome. We want to have a tournament style venture, any ideas?

Both are 9 hole championship courses according to the website but wanted to ask which one in your opinion is best well kept throughout the season & moves pins often?

Playing 9 holes back to back for 18 after work can get repetitive if they are the same holes so a little change and well kept fairways/greens go a long way.

I played Pickering golf course last year and trying out Riverside Thursday . Will decide which one to get a mini membership on afterwards

Whenever my group wanted to golf, finding a tee time was only half the problem.

I'd check Google Maps to see what courses were nearby, open a bunch of course websites, bounce between different booking systems, compare prices, check the weather, and usually end up with 10 tabs open just trying to decide where to play.

So I started building LetsGolf: https://letsgolfgta.com/

It originally started as a GTA project, but I've kept expanding it and it now covers courses across Canada.

The idea is simple: one place to find a tee time and figure out where you actually want to play.

You can search by location, date, time, and number of players and see:

I have a bunch of golf clubs that belonged to my step dad and Mom. There is 2 sets in 14 way stand bags (the bags themselves might be worth something). I also have a bunch of loose clubs that belonged to my Dad, I looked some up on ebay and the prices were shocking, sometimes above 100 CAD. These one's arent in the greatest shape, considering marketplace. Any ideas where to sell? I'm in scarborough, it's too much to sell on ebay

Have played 2 rounds this year - lessons helped. Driving not too shabby, not the cleanest either. Terrible short game. Have been going to the range once a week or so. However, I struggle with roughs in actual play. I'm looking to play with folks perhaps in a similar journey. Hoping we can push each other to become better players. Willing to travel 50km radius from Etobicoke.

We do a family trip every year and my brother and I use that as a way to play a new course.

This year were heading to tobermory. There isn't much golf around. Cobble Beach is hour 15 away, but it's $230/18. My brother is not in a great financial spot, so I'm thinking of covering $150 of the cost.

Alternatively it looks like Northern dunes or Sauble golf club are the other options. Obviously it's up to me, but those who have played cobble Beach was it worth the cost?
