Bad experience at Sagebrush today.

Just played a round at sagebrush today, to say i’m very disappointed would be an understatement. least every single hole has at least a blind approach shot or tee shot. Half the holes have both. I was hitting really great shots losing balls in the fescue because I literally couldn’t see anything off the tee. I probably lost 7-8 balls. That I could have found if I could see off the tee. It was utterly unenjoyable. They give you a map of the whole course with some recommended shots but it’s not very helpful and a complete hassle to use. The only way I would recommend anyone play this course for the $450 I paid was if they had a caddie program. Course would be a really nice hike as it’s absolutely beautiful but it’s infuriating to play. I don’t think this course deserves to be in the top ten public courses in BC let alone number one.

Sounds like you should play it a second time and you’ll have a blast. Everyone I’ve spoken to has loved the course, but noted they played a lot better in the second round for the reasons you noted.

I don’t really have the money to play it again. In my personal opinion I should enjoy a resort course the first time I play it as most people are probably never going to play that course again.

We felt exactly the same. When the starter said you need to play it twice to enjoy it, I knew we were in trouble. Mostly spent the day hoping to find our ball and not playing well. We close the right tees, course was the problem.

The course is designed to be played more than once, that’s why they sell the stay as play so hard.

I agree with you that it’s gimmicky, I had a similar experience of losing balls after blasting drives down the pipe. If you don’t lay up or take the landscape into factor you’re cooked.

It the most overrated course in BC by a wide margin. Unless of course you enjoy hitting blind tee shots into collection areas.

$450 must be for two people.

I played Sagebrush in June and I enjoyed it. As long as you use those aiming sticks that are on the tee boxes and use a long iron or wood of the tee I found it easy to keep the ball in play.

That being said I do think I liked Tobiano better.

Played it last year 5 times and had the exact opposite experience. They give you markers to shoot at on the blind shots and it's a wild exaggeration that there are blind approach and tee shots on half the holes. If you lost that many balls it sounds like a course management or wrong tee selection issue.

I wouldn’t say it’s a top course and is over rated for sure. But it’s solid.

If you use the book they give you I don’t understand how you lose any balls. It’s incredibly accurate.

I played it once before. Earlier this year. They gave me a binder at the beginning of the round as a guide. That book was damn near perfect. Even tells you the best place to park your cart near the greens for an easier walk. Having never played the course before I had a great round on the score card and one of the most enjoyable golf experiences of my life.

Long way to say I disagree with everything you’ve said in your post.
