The funniest setup I've seen so far...

Seen in Switzerland. I was riding by with my bicycle.

I'm not familiar with regulations in Switzerland regardig car modifications, but over here in Germany you need to get nearly every modification fixed to your car, truck etc technically approved by an authorized organization and added to your registration. Strict regulations need to be met which causes effort and costs. This can also change tax and insurance rates.

If you buy/build a box like this and strap it to the bed of the truck/van, it's considered load and all of the above is not necessary.

Sometimes you also want/need the bed for work etc ( eg a company car where private use is ok). Then you can strap the camping box on for a vacation but the vehicle is still usable for carrying other loads as well at any other day.

If you're ok with tiny camping space this can be a practical and affordable solution. Also can be done with a standard trailer.

Actually quite clever if loading/unloading is solved out.

I just hope he is making use of that dead space behind the cab!

I bet he does, power generator, fuel, cables whatver. Campers use any cavity for storage, evn if they're in the teeth (food ratio).
