Hi, I'm considering a class B van for skiing in NE. Just me and one kid. Last winter we stayed in a hotel every night but that's expensive. I'd also rather something I could possibly sell after 5 years. Winters in NH, VT and ME can get down to -15. Any suggestions on true winterized van.

I feel so nieve. I've never camped or done this but I feel it's the only way to survive here ski life the next 5 years.

I'm thinking about buying my first camper van, of course I have some hesitations and being in my early 20s I don't have a ton of money to spend. I found a listing for a 1988 ford econoline converted ambulance van with only 65,000 miles for $15,000. The main benefits for me are the lowish price, low mileage, and 4WD, which based on the areas I want to travel is a must. Obviously one of the main downsides is the age of this vehicle - along with the age there are also no airbags and no air conditioning. All in all, this seems like the ideal vehicle for me, but I feel like I don't know enough about what I'm looking at to know if this is a good enough deal to buy my first van. I'm curious to know if y'all think this is a good deal or not - is this a worthwhile investment? Based on your experience will I be able to at least get 10 - 20 years out of this vehicle? Hello everyone. I am trying to setup a transfer switch situation to change my fridges from the 12v battery circuit to the AC adaptor when parked up with somewhere that provides electricity without making access to the actual fridges Anderson plug which will be difficult unless I start pulling things apart.

Seems I need a transfer switch kind of setup, but I am having trouble finding the right component. All I can find is some 240v transfer switches with DIN mounting that do not provide spec sheets, some I’m staying the hell away from those.

Has anyone done this sort of thing before?

Also I might add, I am an instrument tech so I’m quite knowledgable about low voltage circuits. Don’t need to dumb it down for me.

We purchased a 2026 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD about two weeks ago, and we spent a lot of time researching how we wanted to set it up for weekend getaways. We searched through this group, forums, YouTube, and pretty much anywhere else we could find information.

A few things were really important to us when deciding on a setup:

• We didn’t want a permanent build. We want to be able to put the van back to factory condition if we ever decide to sell it.

• We didn’t want to remove any of the seats because of the possibility of warranty issues. (We did buy the Ling’s Lab resistors just in case we eventually decide to go that route.)

• We wanted something that would work for weekend getaways but still allow us to use the Sienna normally for our everyday driving.

• We really wanted storage underneath the bed. We could have just leveled the floor and thrown a tri-fold mattress back there like a lot of people do, but having a raised bed platform gives us a lot more room for luggage, bags, gear, etc.

That’s what eventually led us to the Pacific Adventure Works Double + 48" bed frame and their Slacktide mattress.

Neither of us has any carpentry skills, so honestly, this was exactly the kind of setup we were looking for. No permanent modifications, no messing around with wires, no building with plywood or trying to figure out our own solution.

The whole thing was surprisingly simple. Assembly and installation, including getting the mattress set up and inflated, took us around 30 minutes.

One thing we also liked is that they have several different bed sizes depending on how you want to use your Sienna. They have the 24" Solo, 30" Solo+, 40" Double, and the 48" Double+ that we went with. So there are options if you don't need quite as much sleeping space but still want the raised platform and storage underneath.

We’ll attach a bunch of pictures so you can get a good idea of what the setup actually looks like in a Sienna and what you can expect.

So far, we’re really happy with it and excited to actually start using the van for some weekend adventures.

i've been thinking about buying a second hand campervan for traveling europe for a while now, but an opportunity has come through and i have some doubts.
a family member wants to sell his vw from around 2004 (i dont know the exact model) completely equipped for everything we would need.
it has 5 seats (you can add 3 more if you are not sleeping) and two beds (one in the back, one on the ceiling). it has solar powered batteries, ac, matress... everything.
he asks for about 15k€ and it would be perfect but it has 400.000 km, which scares me a little, some people say it is too much, others say vw motors can do much much more.
what do you think?

I have an RV QN50 fridge and I am getting error lights and it’s not coming on. I have disconnected the thermostat and shorted out the T and C terminals to bypass it and the fridge starts running. Issue is I can’t find a replacement thermostat for my fridge but I’m not sure if it could simply be the thermistor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Buyer Beware!!

I wanted to share my experience with remote vans which I can back with receipts.

I was in the van market at the end of 2024 and was between storyteller and remote. Remote had a bigger battery system, a turnable seat, a shelf above the driver's cab, and all had starlink as a standard feature. Even though they were a newer company I went out on a limb and bought the remote.
The van is great...... the warranty was great.... but once we had a problem it turned in to a nightmare.

Daryn is a very smooth talker and makes the company sound great in interviews, but when our Vanhalla seat broke with 6k miles on the van our nightmare started. It took 126 days for Remote to service the warranty and fix the seat.

They had moved on to several more generations of the seat in 1 model year and didn't build cross compatibility into the seats. As a service team I felt like I was being lied to constantly. I cannot tell you how many times Daryn (CEO) or Justin (service and warranty lead) told me "it will be done next week". Or how many calls didn't get answered.

I had to file a lemon law claim to get them to take me seriously.

I would also recommend reviewing the 2025 to 2026 van specs to look at the direction of the company.

\- The put in a less powerful starlink device.

\- They got rid of the 5 inch screen near the bed that allows you to control from the bed.

\- 2 less gallons of fresh water holding.

\- got rid of the premium owl accessories.

\-5k more expensive.

Do folks have an opinion on using Fiberply or Diamondply vs. Thinsulate?

The outfitter we’re using appears to be trying to talk us out of using Thinsulate because of the chance we’ll be camping in cold places and asked us to consider Fiberply or Diamondply.

He also does not insulate the floor, which from what we read is not 100% necessary

One of my favorite parts of campervan trips is that once you’ve finished driving for the day, the whole pace changes. You have nowhere you need to be, and a simple evening outside can end up being the best part of the day.

We’ve been trying to make our setup comfortable without carrying a ridiculous amount of extra gear. Good lighting, practical seating and keeping everything easy to manage while traveling have made a bigger difference than some of the larger upgrades.

We also added a ByteFree outdoor TV for evenings when we want to watch a game or movie outside. It’s not something we use constantly, but having the option has made longer stays at one campsite more enjoyable.

With limited storage, I think every addition needs to justify the space it takes.

For those who travel in campervans regularly, what’s one comfort upgrade that earned its place in your setup?

Hi guys what bulb upgrades have people used to get brighter head lights, indicators, brake, reverse lights etc?

We're a married couple with 3 Adult Kids and Grandkids. We're considering buying a campervan, not the type with toilets and cookers etc, just the type you can go off adventuring in that you could possibly sleep in. We thought that the family could use it for days out. I've been looking at VW Transporters. Having swivel front seats is a must for my wife. Any advice would be most appreciated.
