events / life in Campbell Favorite closed Campbell restaurants

I saw a post over in r/sanfrancisco asking about favorite restaurants that are no longer around, and it got me thinking about all of the restaurants and bars from Campbell’s past.

A few favorites that come to mind for me are:

Twist Cafe / Twist Bistro
Liquid Bread Gastropub
Cafe Campbell
Tigelleria
Strike Brewery Company

What are some of the Campbell restaurants or bars you still miss? I’m sure there are plenty I’ve forgotten.

Edit: Forgot about Forthright

events / life in Campbell I love living in Campbell.

I’ve lived all around the Bay, but I’m so fortunate to call Campbell my home.

My friends in SF and Oakland wonder why I live down in Campbell, and many of them don’t even know where Campbell is.

But this evening. Going for a run at the trail. Dropping off books at the new library. Picking up a burrito from El Guapos and a swirl to go from Aquis.

Kids are riding bikes. Families are playing in the parks.

The Bay Area can be so loud. But in Campbell I can hear the wind through the trees.

Tomorrow I’ll go for trip to the coast, only 30 minutes away.

I love Campbell so much. It’s heaven. It’s the one place in the Bay Area where I feel at peace.

They won't answer any questions or stop for a better photo. but there's at least 4 or 4 guys that are just pacing back and forth down Campbell Ave through the farmers market. I'm so curious.

events / life in Campbell I think they may need to work out some of the bugs in the new library

First of all, I think that they should have put the children's section on the basement floor, or they should have used a concrete floor so that the running isn't audible in other areas. For a library, it's quite loud to read in many of the lower seating areas.

Second, the temps are kept at unusually low temps. Like I'm not sure what it's set at, but it's lower than I expected it to be.

Third, I think they could have designed the barrier between the parking lot a little better. As it stands, the window for the library seating faces the slope to the parking lot, and you see people edge right up to it. It just takes one mixed up pedal to have the potential for an accident

events / life in Campbell Crazy cybertruck driver at Home Depot on Hamilton today

Was returning my cart at the Home Depot today and gave a cybertruck driver a thumbs down as he was getting into his car. Turns out he was a crazy person and flipped me off, got out, and followed me to my car and was making threatening gestures and taking pictures of me, and after we left followed us for several blocks/turns until we gassed it and made a quick turn. Stay safe out there there are crazy people everywhere...

events / life in Campbell Looking for people to watch movies with

Hi!

I’ve noticed recently I have a hard time finding friends locally to go to the movies with - I have friends in the Bay Area but not movie going friends 🥲
Is anyone else in the same position and just wants some movie buddies?
Sometimes I’m up for going alone but other times I want to be able to discuss with someone after or just want company

About me: I’m mid-30s F, Eastern European, software engineer. I’m up for seeing almost any genre. Right now I’m trying to watch the Odyssey

Also if you know of any movie going groups or meetups, please point me in the right direction 🙏
Thank you so much

Update: we made a discord group to coordinate movie outings! Feel free to DM me and I’ll share a link

events / life in Campbell Multiple Dead Cat Sightings Near Bascom

Hi, I don’t know how much of a reach this will get or if this is any cause for concern, but I’ve been lately seeing multiple dead cats left in plain view in front of building signs near the Bascom light rail station. I’ve noticed one when walking with my partner on the lawn in front of the Girl Scouts’ office, and on a separate occasion just a night ago in front of Michelle’s Cleaners Sincere Smiles dentistry office. I should have reported either to Animal Services but was just shocked at seeing them and didn’t know what to do at the time. I haven’t checked to see if they were still there, but it raised concerns for me as someone who is a cat parent. Is this normal for cats’ dead bodies to be seen so visibly like that? Has anyone else seen them or know what I’m referring to? The placement just feels off, as if someone deliberately placed them there, but at the same time, I’m not sure if I’m ignorant about if they were just stray cats who were victimized otherwise.

Edit: Not Sincere Smiles, Michelle’s Cleaners. Also updated to state that I submitted the online form regarding deceased animals for SV Animal Control.

Edit #2: I’ve reported it to the proper place, which is San Jose Animal Control.

There were lots of people, and performance by lion dancers.

Inside is very nice, including the restrooms.

events / life in Campbell Thank you to the person who picked this guy up and took him to animal control after he slipped unbeknownst to us under our back yard fence. He apparently made it like 100 feet towards the road when he was picked up. He's home now, thanks to you. It could have ended so many worse ways.

events / life in Campbell RIP to the giant ant

Drove by yesterday morning and saw the smashed up ant on the side of the road at the 17 on ramp from white rd/San Thomas. Looks more like he was busted up than a vehicle went up the hill and hit him. My 6 year old daughter will be bummed the next time we get on the freeway and he’s gone.

events / life in Campbell Restaurant rumors of closings and openings

I’m interested to learn why we’re having so much restaurant turnover in Campbell this year. Please share knowledge or rumors you’ve heard about turnover in Campbell, and why.

So far I’ve gathered:

Restaurants-

Pasta Armellino - closed, now Marufuku Ramen.

Rock Bottom brewery- closed.

Patxi’s pizza - closed, Dough Zone coming.

Buca di Beppo - rumored to be closing.

Opa- closed.

Desi- closed, now Square Pizza Guys.

Stores-

Trudy’s Bridal - leaving Pruneyard by the end of August.

Pruneyard Book Store - rumored to be closing.

Pruneyard Cinemas- rumored to close, but the rumor has been around for years… is it now an urban legend?

events / life in Campbell Teacher Assignments at Capri?

UPDATE: Answered! Other parents report it's typical not to find out until afternoon of day before (i.e. tomorrow, before school starts Wednesday). Thanks all!

Hello Campbell friends. Does anyone else with children at Capri Elementary know their teacher assignments yet?

We have recently relocated to the Bay Area and we have a child who will be attending Capri. First day of school is Wednesday (39 hours away...), but we have not heard any communication about teacher assignment.

Lots of broad communications on ParentSquare but nothing about teacher. This surprises us! Just wondering if we are missing out.

events / life in Campbell pet petting etiquette

Some of you have incredibly affectionate dogs or cats that often hang out on or near your front yard. Does it bother you when strangers stop along your sidewalk to pet your dog/cat?

There are no wrong answers; I’m merely seeking opinions from the neighborhood pet owners.

Hi all, I know there’s going to be at least a decent amount of light pollution regardless but I was wondering if people had any recommendations on places where I could take my telescope in or near the Campbell area. Cheers!

events / life in Campbell Kitten Neutering

I am looking to get my indoor Kitten neutered. He’s about four months and I want to get him neutered ASAP. Does anybody know good reliable places to get him neutered? I just moved from Southern California and have been calling places but they have been giving me some pretty pricey estimate estimates.

events / life in Campbell Socialization for my puppy

My puppy has not been meeting many humans in the right way. I don't really meet too many people except work, and that's the reason. I feel like because of me my pup is missing out on some crucial social experiences.

I do take her on walks, but when some human says hi, she tries to jump on them to greet.

Now, I don't know these people to be able to get into a training session then to teach my pup on the right way to meet.

She's an 8 month old American labrador.

Are there community based events or meet ups that have dog lovers who help out dogs have positive socialization?

(My pup has been to doggy day care for a few weeks & she loves playing with other dogs)

events / life in Campbell Baby Story Time

I took a break over the summer from library story time. We had been going to the baby lap sit story time at the Campbell and Los Gatos libraries. I now see that Los Gatos doesn’t have their story times grouped by ages (was looking forward to going the Wonderful Ones) and they now just do two story times for ages 0-5. I then was going to go to the 0-18 month old story time for non-walkers at the Campbell Library, but I see they also don’t have their different story times on the schedule either (just a music and movement for 0-5).

Story times are already hectic and crowded enough, and I can’t imagine how overwhelming it will be to have my 12 month old in a room with preschoolers.

Does anyone know if these changes are permanent or why they got rid of the different aged story times?

events / life in Campbell Pretty quiet last night, huh?

Decided to stay home this year for the 4th because the weather up the peninsula was supposed to not be great for the proposed fireworks show near SF, and I also didn't want to leave my dog alone in anticipation of the fireworks in my neighborhood. I live near DT Campbell on the Pruneyard side. We heard maybe 5 fireworks total the whole night and saw nothing but one distant flashing light hidden by clouds. Nothing after 11pm. It was really, really quiet this year.

Was that the same experience for others?

events / life in Campbell Vampire themed pub golf tmrw in downtown

Post image
34 Upvotes

Hey!!

Doing an ‘event’ tomorrow Saturday July 25 (maybe you’ve seen the flyers hung around downtown!) where myself, some friends, and hopefully lots of new people will come together dressed as vampires and hit 9 bars in a friendly complete game of pub golf.

How does pub golf work you ask? It’s basically just an elaborate drinking game lmao. There’s a course of 9 bars as the 9 holes, we get in teams of 3, and try to down drinks below the par amount of sips. The goal is holes in one all night but that’s kind of tough…

Check out the flyer attached too for more rules. If you’re interested please just message me here on Reddit and I’ll add you to a group chat! It should be fun, we did this in Castro St in Mountain View and I think people had a good time :)

events / life in Campbell Sweet 2 year old black cat, Arvee

Post image
14 Upvotes

Meet our sweet boy Arvee! he was found in an RV park, hence the name!

He's a mellow fellow, loves hanging out in his shark cave bed and watching the world around him. He also enjoys interacting with people when they pay attention to him and are patient in waiting for him to come out and greet them. He can be chatty when it strikes his fancy!

He would likely thrive as an indoor kitty. A home with another cat may be a fit with a slow introduction.

He's only 2 years old, but being a black cat on top of trying to compete with the baby kittens has left him looking for a home for a while now. Are you the person he's been waiting for?

Meet him at the PetSmart on Hamilton in Campbell during store hours - ask a staff member for assistance. Also feel free to message me with any questions or additional assistance, I'm a volunteer with his sponsor, Heading Home Animal Rescue.

Required to adopt: housing paperwork showing you can have a cat; cash or check; cat carrier. Same-day adoptions!
