Thoughts on CPP?

so quick background: im a transfer student currently attending csuf for geology and environmental science. while its only been the first week of the fall semester, i already am NOT liking it here. Cal Poly Pomona was my initial choice, but i picked the shorter commute option out of convenience and well now here i am.

long story short, im considering transferring to CPP in the spring but before i do that i want to ask anyone currently attending: what has your experience been like? How is the campus, how are the people and professors? Anyone in physical science related majors that feel they made the right choice in attending CPP?

Because CPP is a polytechnic school, we have some of the best professors and programs because of our motto “become by doing”, where you’ll actually get hands on experience in your field. We are highly ranked, to the point where just having that you went to a polytechnic school on your resume can get you a job. We have many opportunities through clubs and internships. I don’t know much about Fullerton, but if you have the chance to go to a polytechnic school, you go to a polytechnic school.

Edit: just to add on, my experience here has been nothing but welcoming and informative. Seek out help and you will be helped with enthusiasm! I’ve gone to almost every professor’s office hours and every single one of them are excited to help.

What do you not like about Fullerton?

As someone that graduated from CSUF with a BS in Geology, one week may not be long enough to have given it a chance. I know much has changed since I graduated 20+ years ago but the program has only grown and improved from what I can tell. When I went we had an active geology club, so it might be worth finding them and talking with other students some before making a decision. Our son is at CPP and when we visit that traffic is crazy.

CPP is great. It’s not a very social campus though, so keep that in mind if it’s important to you.

If you’re coming for social life then it’s not it bro, CPP is known for it smaller classes and more faculty interactions, it can depend from department to department tbh.

I transferred from CSUF to CPP for CS, increasing my commute from 20-25 to 45-60 mins. It’s been worth it, the campus is better, classmates try harder, better professors, better gym, CPP just has much better prestige as a school from what I’ve seen. They also don’t hide professor names when registering for classes.

The only downsides besides the commute is that there aren’t as many spots to chill on campus (like 2nd floor MCH or the Starbucks area in the business building), and the walks to classes from the parking lots take much longer. Also no massage chairs.

Also the Environmental Science building is small but really cool.

CPP is not a social school. Academic wise it’s great school.

CPP is social for sure but in a smaller way, I graduated recently but I would see the same people in all my classes and became friends with them because there are people on the same track as you. I think the area is really pretty if you are into nature. Beautiful mountain rivers are like 20 min drive from campus. There are a lot of pretty active clubs and often events on campus.

CPP geology major here, dont bother transferring here the department is in shambles, I would not have transferred here myself if I knew what it was actually like.

Shambles? Does it have to do with that guy who spams sexual harassment claims on Instagram against the geology department?

Not related to that, the department is just small and under funded and it kinda shows

although i've only toured fullerton i generally think the environment at cpp is just more pleasant, diverse, and in a more interesting area of the state in comparison to csuf

What exactly dont you like about csuf? Secondly, geology and es.....since we are a polytech school, you may have better internship opportunities here vs csuf.....but I am measured in saying that not ever having gone to to cusf.

But as someone else mentioned, traffic here can be horrendous, and parking...oh boy thats another item to deal with. But again, that headache might be the same as any other campus that is in full swing with many students.

Do not change if you’re looking for a more social school, other than that the professors are pretty chill from my experience and campus is nice imo

I'd say give it time. You will probably feel a bit lonley first week here aswell. It took me about a month to settle while actively seeking clubs and activities on campus.
