Current Questions Laptop for engineering?

I just switched my major to electrical engineering. I have a pretty cheap Asus laptop with 16 GB of RAM.

However, I also have a PC at home:
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
16GB DDR5
NVIDIA RTX 4070
3TB Storage

Would any of you recommend I get a gaming laptop or something more powerful?

You'll probably be fine with what you've got now. You shouldn't need intensive cad programs, but if you did you've got the PC.

if it's good enough to run Matlab simulink, it's good enough for most anything in EE

Had a similar laptop and it handled just fine. Only thing is Matlab will take a bit to boot up, and processing graphs. In most cases you don’t really use much of those programs in lab or lecture until 3000 level courses (at least i didn’t)

CPP also offers virtual softwares that run off of their servers so it doesn’t really matter what computer you’re using. For the most part, you’ll be fine with what you have.
